C.J. Stroud on pace to break Andrew Luck’s record for passing yards by a rookie
Houston’s C.J. Stroud is having one of the best rookie seasons a quarterback has ever had.
Through nine games, Stroud has 2,625 passing yards, which puts him on pace for 4,958 yards in a 17-game season. That would obliterate the current rookie record of 4,374 yards, set by Andrew Luck in 2012. At his current pace, Stroud would break Luck’s record in the 15th game of this season.
Stroud has also thrown just two interceptions in 318 passes, an interception on just 0.63 percent of his attempts, which would also be a rookie record. The record is currently owned by Dak Prescott, who threw interceptions on 0.87 percent of his passes as a rookie in 2016.
Vikings plan to sign Anthony Barr
Vikings linebacker Jordan Hicks is set to miss time after having a surgical procedure on his shin Sunday and the Vikings reportedly plan to bring back a familiar face to round out the position group.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Vikings [COLOR=var(--color-primary-text)]plan to sign Anthony Barr as a free agent. Barr was a Vikings first-round pick in 2014 and he was a four-time Pro Bowler during his eight years with the club.
Barr moved on to play for the Cowboys last season. He had 58 tackles, a sack, and two fumble recoveries in 14 regular season games and nine more tackles in the postseason.
Jaguars' Zay Jones arrested for domestic battery
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Zay Jones was arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery causing bodily harm, according to a Jacksonville (Florida) Sheriff's Office inmate report.
Jones was admitted at 6:03 p.m. ET Monday, per the report, and remains in custody.
Jones, 28, is in his seventh NFL season and second with the Jaguars.
A 2017 NFL Draft second-round selection of the Buffalo Bills, Jones has played in 98 career games with 261 receptions, 2,785 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Rams are expecting Matthew Stafford to return to starting lineup Sunday
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford threw in individual drills Monday, a bonus practice with the team coming off an off week.
Coach Sean McVay said that the Rams expect Stafford to return this week from a UCL sprain in his right thumb. The Rams play the Seahawks on Sunday.
“He’ll be pushing through,” McVay said, via Greg Beacham of the Associated Press.
Stafford injured his thumb in an Oct. 28 game against the Cowboys, leaving in the third quarter. He missed the Week 9 game against the Packers, and the Rams didn’t play this week.
Report- Jason Pierre-Paul agrees to terms with Saints
Free agent edge rusher Jason Pierre-Paul has agreed to terms with the Saints, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports.
The Saints worked out Pierre-Paul earlier Monday.
It is unclear whether Pierre-Paul is joining the team’s 53-player roster or the practice squad.
Pierre-Paul, 34, spent the 2022 season with the Ravens. He totaled three sacks, five passes defensed, five tackles for loss and an interception in 14 games.
Pierre-Paul, the No. 15 overall selection in 2010, has 94.5 career sacks. He has won two Super Bowls, one with the Giants in 2011 and one with the Buccaneers in 2020.

After Sunday’s win over the Bengals in Cincinnati, Texans rookie receiver Tank Dell told PFT that Stroud has been sending late-night texts to teammates with plays run by the upcoming opponent’s defense.
“He just puts that that extra time and his preparation is amazing,” Dell said by phone. “He’d just sent us videos all throughout the night. It’s like eleven at night, almost midnight, and he’s still sending us clips of how their defense is playing and telling us how we should adjust and things like that. I’d say it’s preparation, but then his swagger, he have that confidence about himself that he can be one of the best in the league. So, I’d say all that mixed in with each other.”

Falcons' Arthur Smith not expected to be fired anytime soon
Since Smith was hired in 2021, the Falcons have a 18-26 record, which equates to a .409 winning percentage. Atlanta was third in the NFC South in his first year as head coach and last in the division a season ago. With just six NFC teams with a worse win percentage than the Falcons in 2023, it is clear why fans may be frustrated and would be calling for some changes to be made in the building.
Falcons owner Arthur Blank does not appear to be making a move anytime soon, however. According to The Athletic, Blank "has been supportive of Smith behind the scenes" while expecting better results the rest of the way. Smith is not expected to be fired during or after the 2023 season, per Jeff Schultz.
Raiders cut Isaac Rochell after claiming Jack Jones
To get Jones on the roster, the team had to make a corresponding move Tuesday.
They announced they waived defensive end Isaac Rochell, who was inactive in Week 10.
Rochell, 28, has played eight games with one start this season. He has seen action on 120 defensive snaps and 33 on special teams this season.
Rochell has 10 tackles.
He is in his seventh season since the Chargers drafted him in the seventh round, seeing action for the Chargers, Colts, Browns and Raiders. Rochell has 113 tackles, 9.5 sacks, an interception and 17 quaterback hits in 78 career games.
Jets cut Michael Carter
The Jets waived running back Michael Carter on Tuesday, the team announced.
His release clears the way for rookie Izzy Abanikanda, a fifth-round pick who has yet to play.
Carter played nine games this season, seeing action on 142 offensive snaps and 11 on special teams. He had eight carries for 38 yards and 15 receptions for 68 yards.
Lions to sign pass rusher Bruce Irvin
The 36-year-old Irvin was a first-round pick of the Seahawks in the 2012 NFL draft. He has had three different stints with the Seahawks and has also played for the Raiders, Falcons, Panthers and Bears. Last year he started 10 games for the Seahawks and had 3.5 sacks.
The Lions’ pass rush struggled mightily against Justin Herbert and the Chargers on Sunday, failing to sack him during a 41-38 Lions victory. They’ll hope that Irvin can get up to speed and be called up from the practice squad to the active roster to provide some pass rushing depth for a playoff run.
