Patrick Mahomes- Only thing I don’t like about Chiefs’ schedule is the early bye

Much has been made of the Chiefs’ 2024 schedule, which has them playing on every day of the week except Tuesday. Mike North, the league’s scheduling guru, said Kansas City might have the toughest schedule in the league. But Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes says that’s not the issue he has with the schedule.

Mahomes says the only thing he doesn’t like is that the Chiefs’ bye comes early in the year, in Week Six.

“The only thing I don’t like is the early bye,” Mahomes told Pat McAfee. “The early bye is always tough. But other than that, I’m just ready to play football.”

Mahomes said he likes playing on Christmas Day, but on a personal level he would’ve preferred the bye to come later in the season.

Cardinals first-round WR Marvin Harrison signs rookie contract

Cardinals first-round receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. made if official Thursday, signing his four-year rookie contract with a fifth-year option.

It’s my first job,” Harrison told Darren Urban of the team website. “Ever since I got here, I’ve been telling people I’m going to work. It’s not practice anymore.”

The Cardinals have three draft picks left to sign, with first-round defensive lineman Darius Robinson, third-round running back Trey Benson and safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson still unsigned.

Sean Payton- Courtland Sutton situation will sort itself out

The Broncos have wide receiver Tim Patrick back on the practice field as he works his way back from the torn Achilles that sidelined him for all of last season, but they remain without another key member of the receiving corps.
Courtland Sutton’s absence from voluntary workouts is not related to injury, however. Sutton has been away from the team for the entire offseason as he looks for a new contract and there’s no sign that he’s planning to reverse course before the end of OTAs.

DJ Moore- The race is on to see which Bears WR gets to 1,000 yards first

DJ Moore has four 1,000-yard seasons. Keenan Allen has six. Rome Odunze had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons the past two seasons at the University of Washington.

That’s the Bears’ top three receivers, making them arguably the top trio in football.

“You’ve got Keenan, Rome. You’ve got Velus [Jones Jr.]. You’ve got Tyler [Scott],” Moore said Thursday, via Gabby Hajduk of the team website. “You got endless playmakers in there. It’s probably going to be a race to 1,000 [yards] now. I don’t know who’s going to get there first, but it’s going to be a race.”

When a reporter asked Moore if he considered himself “the favorite” to get to 1,000 yards first, Moore cracked a joke.

Aaron Rodgers on schedule- "What happens when we pay them back with six great prime-time games this year?" - NBC Sports

When it comes to the specific configuration of a given team’s games, competitive balance and recent performance take a back seat to sizzle factor. Look no farther than the Jets, who haven’t been to the playoffs since 2010 but who ended up with six prime-time games in the first eleven weeks of the 2024 season.

The jets gain nothing by complaining that it’s unfair. Even though it is unfair. It creates a competitive disadvantage, especially with three games in 10 days to start the season.

Rodgers addressed the schedule during a Thursday appearance with Adam Schein of SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio.

I love it,” Rodgers said. “I love it. We are must-watch TV. And that’s pretty obvious. Everybody knows that. Whether you love me or hate me, people wanna see me play. They enjoy watching me play. And we are a team to watch this year. Not surprising. Six prime-time games in the first 11 or 12 weeks. I love it. You know, make it difficult.”

Raiders give Maxx Crosby a raise for 2024, with no new years on his deal - NBC Sports

Via Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, the Raiders have given Crosby a revised contract that increases his compensation for 2024 by $6 million.
Another $1.2 million was moved into 2025.
Now new years were added to the contract. Crosby is signed through 2026.
Crosby’s contract previously contained $19.382 million in pay for 2024, $21.92 million in 2025, and $21.92 million in 2026.

NFL considering Paris and Dublin as future hosts for regular-season games - NBC Sports

In the NFL’s ongoing quest to bring American football to the entire world, Paris and Dublin are among the cities that are being evaluated to potentially host future games.

Henry Hodgson, general manager of the NFL’s UK office, told the Irish Times that the league is looking at several cities to determine whether they have a suitable stadium to host the NFL and a fan base that would be enthusiastic about attending NFL games.

“There’s a feasibility study, as we would call it, in a number of different European cities and Dublin is one of those,” Hodgson said. “Looking at the stadiums, taking local meetings . . . we’ll take away all of that information, digest it and determine what the next steps are. That’s something that’s happening in Dublin, it’s happening in Paris for example, and a number of other cities around the world as well.”

This year the NFL is playing three games in London, one game in Munich and one game in Sao Paulo. Next year Madrid will host a game, and Mexico City is expected to get back into the mix. The league has also indicated that Australia could host a regular-season game.

Matthew Judon will attend Patriots’ minicamp- I ain’t giving no money away

It’s unclear how much Patriots edge rusher Matthew Judon has been around the team during the voluntary offseason program. He missed the organized team activity that was open to the media last week, and coach Jerod Mayo said Judon has been “in and out” of the team facility.
It’s also unclear whether Judon’s absence is contract related.
He signed a four-year, $56 million deal in 2021 and is scheduled to earn a base salary of $6.5 million in the final year of his contract. Judon did limited work at training camp last summer before the Patriots gave him a $12 million bump in guaranteed money.

Nyheim Hines expects to be ready for training camp

Hines has not played a game since Jan. 22, 2023, in a playoff game for the Bills in a loss to the Bengals. He missed last season after injuring his knee in a freak jet skiing accident last summer.
He plans on being on the field Week 1.
“I processed what happened to me as not a blessing in disguise, but it’s something you learn from,” Hines said last week, via team transcripts. “Honestly, this is the hardest thing in my life, and I truly believe that everything is on the other side of hard. . . . So, if I can get through this hard part, I think the best times are coming for me.”

No pitch count for Joe Burrow as Bengals launch OTAs this week - NBC Sports

Most teams started their OTAs last week. The Bengals start theirs tomorrow. When they do, there will be no limits on their starting quarterback.

Offensive coordinator Mike Pitcher recently explained to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com that there will be no pitch count on Burrow, who suffered a season-ending wrist injury last November in Baltimore.

“We designed the whole thing to stay within the constraints of where the medical people think he should be and where he wants to be right now,” Pitcher said. “Nobody is sitting there with a special pitch counter. But we’ve been smart how we put it together.”

Pitcher added that Burrow currently has “all his range and power.”

It all points to Burrow possibly having the first normal training camp of his career. In 2020, there wasn’t one. In 2021, he was recovering from a torn ACL. In 2022, he had an appendectomy. Last year, he had a calf injury.

Patrick Queen says he took less money to play for Steelers - NBC Sports

“From all the 15 teams that I was talking to, it came down to like five at the end,” Queen said, via NFL.com. “It was just like five teams in the mix. Some of them were offering some $17 [million per year]. After that it was like, I have a chance to either go win or I have a chance to get paid. For me, the difference was like $4 or $5 million. I’m looking at it like, I’ve never been on a losing team before, and then I also don’t want to be a part of anything being rebuilt because I’m trying to win now. . . . I’m really just trying to win right now, get that out the way and then get paid later.”
Queen signed a three-year, $41 million deal with the Steelers. The first year, at $13.84 million, is fully guaranteed at signing.
