163 of 257 draft picks have signed contracts - NBC Sports

Before 2011, most teams waited until after the Fourth of July to sign their draft picks. Now, most are under contract before Memorial Day.

With more than a week to go until the unofficial start of summer, 163 of 257 draft picks have had their contracts signed, sealed, and delivered to the NFL Players Association.

The highest draft pick under contract is Giants receiver Malik Nabers, the sixth overall pick.

Eleven first-round picks have signed. The round with the most picks under contract is seven — 34 of 37 are done. The fewest is round two, with only eight.

New Sunday network assignments shift 49 games between CBS and Fox - NBC Sports

Last year, the NFL tore down the traditional formula that sent daytime games to CBS or Fox. (In a nutshell, CBS had all games in which an AFC team was the visitor, and Fox had all games in which an NFC team was the visitor.)

As NFL V.P. of broadcast planning Mike North said in 2022, “I think all you guys know, when the new media deals kick in, the notion of an AFC team on the road, that game’s a CBS game, or an NFC team on the road, that game belongs to Fox, that’s gone next year. That no longer exists. All games are jump balls, all games are free agents.”

Justin Simmons remains unsigned, with Broncos unlikely to bring him back - NBC Sports

On our list of this offseason’s Top 100 free agents, only four of the Top 50 are still available. That includes safety Justin Simmons, who was cut by the Broncos in March.

Simmons was a second-team All-Pro last season, but there’s been little indication that NFL teams are showing much interest in his services, and that includes the team that knows him best. The Broncos are very unlikely to bring Simmons back, according to the Denver Post.

Lions play 14 of first 15 games indoors - NBC Sports

Fourteen of their first 15 games are played indoors. Yes, two of those venues have roofs that might be open, but it could be too hot in Arizona for Week 3 and too cold or wet in Indianapolis for Week 12. Still, 14 of 15 games mesh with Detroit’s dome-at-home vibe.

In Week 9, the Lions go to Green Bay. Other than that, it’s all indoors until three days before Christmas, in Chicago. The next week, they go to San Francisco.

While they’ll still be playing plenty of playoff teams from 2023 (Rams, Bucs, Cowboys, Texans, Packers twice, Bills), the table is set to fatten up their record not just to win the division but perhaps to force the road to the Super Bowl through Detroit.

Seahawks sign third-round G Christian Haynes - NBC Sports

Seattle announced on Friday that third-round guard Christian Haynes has put pen to paper on his four-year rookie contract.

Haynes, 24, was the No. 81 overall pick out of UConn. He started 49 consecutive games in college and is expected to compete to start at right guard.

The Seahawks have now signed seven of their eight draft picks. Offensive tackle Michael Jerrell, a sixth-round pick, is the remaining unsigned draftee.

Chiefs release RB La'Mical Perine - NBC Sports

The Chiefs have released running back La’Mical Perine, according to the NFL’s transactions report.
Perine, 26. was third on the depth chart behind Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Keaontay Ingram also is on the roster at the position, as is former rugby player Louis Rees-Zammit and four other young players.

After more than 20 years, NFL Network's Total Access shuts down - NBC Sports

Total Access is no more.

The signature studio show, a weeknight fixture on NFL Network since its inception, has ended its run. The final show was tonight.

Questions first swirled when the show disappeared from the schedule for a full week earlier this year. More recently, reports emerged based on a recent round of layoffs that the show was being shuttered.

At one point, it would have been inconceivable. Total Access was NFL Network. However, as the media landscape changed, the relevance of a nightly studio show diminished significantly. And, frankly, the show was never the same after Rich Eisen left.

Chiefs OL Wanya Morris, Chukwuebuka Godrick arrested for misdemeanor marijuana possession - NBC Sports

Chiefs players created another headline Friday, with news that offensive linemen Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick were charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession. The players were arrested late Thursday night in Johnson County, Kansas, by a sheriff’s deputy, according to KSHB 41.

Morris and Godrick were booked into the Johnson County Adult Detention Center just before 2 a.m. CT on Friday.

Both players appeared before a Johnson County judge via video Friday afternoon. Morris and Godrick each posted a $2,500 bond and both were released before 4 p.m. CT on Friday.

Their next court appearance is scheduled for May 23.

Former Cardinals RB David Johnson retires

Johnson, 32, did not receive interest as a free agent last offseason or this offseason, and now has called it quits.

He announced his retirement Sunday.

“I am blessed and very appreciative of the Cardinals drafting me in the third round, and I started my NFL career hitting the ground running (literally)! Two games in, getting my uniform and cleats put in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. There’s been highs and lows, but I’ve felt very fortunate and honored by the people who’ve supported me along this journey,” Johnson wrote on social media. “Lastly, I would not have been able to do any of this without God’s good grace! He did it all so a kid who didn’t have much, was given a chance to do what most can’t. I’m looking forward to my next career path in life. I don’t know exactly what that will be, but I hope it will bring me the same passion, excitement, and love as football did!”

Dalvin Cook- I'm taking calls, patience is the key - NBC Sports

While no deal has come together, Cook says that he has been in contact with clubs this offseason. Cook said this weekend that he has been “taking calls” from clubs while he works to make sure that he’s in the right condition to make the most of any opportunity that comes his way.

“Just really focusing on myself,” Cook said, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC. “Getting ready for training camp, getting ready for what’s coming up next. For me, like you said, patience is the key. Right now the only thing I’m really focusing on is getting myself in tip-top shape to really tote the rock come the fall.”
