    Wr Troy Franklin Oregon

He'd be a great fit to replace Gabe. He could be there late in 1st.

This draft has a chance to be one of if not the best wide receiver draft in history. The list of potential studs is pretty long.

I’d probably take Xavier Leggette over Franklin. If we’re taking a big guy I want one with strength as well. They’re about the same speed but Leggette is 40 pounds heavier. Make up for not taking DK Metcalf.

        On to mock draft mode!!!

Interesting that CBS' Chris Trapasso posted his latest mock draft and had Troy Franklin going right after the Bills pick WR Xavier Worthy.

He said this about each player....

Xavier Worthy: Worthy is incredibly fast and has some lateral wiggle. He's precisely what the Bills could use on offense.

Troy Franklin: Franklin is a flashy, twitched-up wideout who makes plays after the catch and down the field consistently. A needed add to the Chiefs offense.
Mel Kiper's latest mock has the Bills taking Adonai Mitchell....

I made a late change with this pick after I watched Josh Allen average 4.8 yards per attempt in the home playoff loss to the Chiefs. His receivers struggled to get open and didn't make enough plays after the catch once they did. Stefon Diggs hasn't had a 100-yard game since mid-October, and Gabe Davis is now a free agent. General manager Brandon Beane can find a useful pass-catcher here.

The 6-foot-4 Mitchell broke out after transferring from Georgia, catching 55 passes for 845 yards and 11 scores for the Longhorns in 2023. He thrived on crossing routes, using his size and quickness to get separation from defenders. He has great hands. The position I almost went with? Nose tackle, because T'Vondre Sweat (Texas) could be a great fit in the middle of the Buffalo defense.
Interestingly Kiper had the Chiefs (also interesting is that both writers have KC at #29 so they expect the Chiefs to lose to Baltimore ) taking Troy Franklin right after the Bills pick...

Did you expect me to go with another position? Kansas City's receivers really struggled this season, outside of rookie second-rounder Rashee Rice, who might already be their top wideout. Chiefs pass-catchers dropped 38 passes during the regular season, ranking last in the league. That's why I'm giving them a talented playmaker with this pick.

Franklin averaged 17.1 yards per catch in 2023 and had 23 receiving touchdowns over the past two seasons. He is a big, 6-foot-3 target with deceptive speed who can break tackles after the catch. This isn't the first time I've projected Kansas City to land a receiver in Round 1 -- I gave them Zay Flowers in my final 2023 mock -- but the hole is too large to not fill here. By the way, this makes seven wideouts in Round 1, which would tie the record for most in a single draft (2004).

For reference sake, four ESPN Draft experts rank each position. Here are where each of them had top 5 WR's....

        Wide receivers

        Kiper
        1. Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State
        2. Rome Odunze, Washington
        3. Malik Nabers, LSU
        4. Keon Coleman, Florida State
        5. Brian Thomas Jr., LSU

        Reid

        2. Malik Nabers, LSU
        3. Rome Odunze, Washington
        4. Keon Coleman, Florida State
        5. Adonai Mitchell, Texas

        Miller
        1. Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State
        2. Malik Nabers, LSU
        3. Rome Odunze, Washington
        4. Keon Coleman, Florida State
        5. Brian Thomas Jr., LSU

        Yates
        1. Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State

I'm wary of DK Metcalf comps for every big and fast WR that comes along. That guy is a unicorn.

Metcalf likely fell because of his mediocre college production.

Leggette has one year of draft-worthy production so maybe he falls, too.

Egbuka would have been exactly what we needed but he's going back to Ohio State.

The second tier of WRs after Harrison, Odunze, and Nabers is muddled right now. Hopefully things clear up after the exhibition bowl games and the combine.

NFL Draft Buzz estimates Legette's speed at 4.29 in the 40 Troy Franklin's speed is estimated at 4.35. Legette's going to need some work before he takes full advantage of his speed in the NFL. You're right about the weight difference. Legette is the closest thing in the draft to a Metcalf clone physically.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

I like the idea of a big bully WR in the mold of Metcalf/AJ Brown/Mike Evans/ Eric Moulds and don’t mind waiting a little for a guy to develop if he has a solid chance to turn out like those guys.

I’d rather take that risk than the risk of drafting a small guy with a bigger injury risk.

Maybe we get lucky and Shorter turns out to be that guy but a first round talent to stack the deck would be nice.

Weapons on offense plus a center unless Bates is penciled in.

Defense everything S, NT, CB, DL and LB .... super heavy defensive draft.

                  If we get 10 picks I want 6 or 7 on defense ..... 3 or 4 offense.

1st pick WR unless we can make a deal for Tee Higgins.

We should make some surprising moves prior to or on draft day.

We will part company with at least 4 current starters.

White, Poyer, Hyde, Diggs, Bass possibly Martin.

The end of the road has finally come for these guys JMO.

Josh needs a true #1 Diggs is no longer that and should not be paid like he is.

I would love to get AJ Brown word is he wants out in Philly.

AJ Brown being let go by the Titans had to be one of the biggest blunders ever.

Brown is a guy that can play in the Buffalo weather!

Love the guy ..... I'd trade Diggs straight up if they'd do it.
