Browns DE Myles Garrett named AP 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year

Myles Garrett has officially crossed a prominent item off his checklist.

Cleveland's edge-rushing monster earned his first Associated Press 2023 Defensive Player of the Year Award on Thursday at NFL Honors.

Garrett edged the Pittsburgh Steelers' T.J. Watt, 165-140, in the voting. Garrett earned 23 first-place votes, while Watt had 11.

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons (89) took third and had seven first-place votes, followed by Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby (21) and Cowboys defensive back DaRon Bland (14; one first-place vote) to round out the top five.

C.J. Stroud wins offensive rookie of the year - NBC Sports

Rams receiver Puka Nacua, a fifth-round draft pick in 2023, had a historic rookie season. In any other season, he would have been the runaway winner of the offensive rookie of the year award.
Nacua, though, was beaten out for the award by Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, who had one of the best rookie seasons for a quarterback in history. Stroud received 48 of 50 first-place votes and 246 total points, while Nacua got the other two first-place votes and 154 points.

These awards are so crazy to me. Watt led in every category of stats.

First time in 33 years the QB with the most yards and tds didn't win MVP.

Watt is the better player ..... makes the most consistent impact of any player on defense period.

Garrett is an incredible player ...... he's not Watt!

1 Sack since 19 Nov for Garrett. If they made a DPO half Y, he is that guy.

Like I said the media drives these awards and it isn't even debatable at this point.
