What will the Buffalo Bills do with Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde?

With Micah Hyde, the case is pretty simple. He’s a free agent and not under contract with the Bills past March. After two seasons with lingering injuries, retirement also seems to be on the table for Hyde. At the combine Bills general manager Brandon Beane told 7 sports Hyde has yet to make a decision, but he’s earned the right to take him time.

As for Jordan Poyer, he has one year left on his current deal. But after a slip in production in 2023, it’s unclear if the Bills will want to keep him or move on to save salary cap space.

“We’re still waiting on Micah and you don’t rush that," Beane said. “I’ll meet with his agent at some point down here and we’ll have that conversation and see where they’re at. Obviously there’s a finance piece to it even if he says he’s coming back. But like I was saying, seven seasons with those two guys, whenever the time comes, if it’s this year or next year, if you have to move on, it’s going to be very hard to replace what they’ve brought to this team.”

Bills secondary wasn't the problem. If they want to comeback for 1 last go at a friendly salary then do it.

Two of my absolute favourite players on the past 7 seasons, so I don’t say this lightly…. But I’d move on. There was a significant drop in their play this past year. Micah continued to have neck issues, and I really hope he retires. Don’t risk lifetime problems.

Poyer also clearly lost a step. His “splash plays” really dried up. Better to invest on younger players with potential than hang onto guys who are going the wrong way.

Hyde was my #1 coveted free agent the year they picked him up. I had no clue who Poyer was, never heard of him at the time. They have been the backbone of a decent defense for a long time, but it's time to move on. I agree with 'eh.

he was the only defender who i had almost no complaints about all season. he didn't make huge plays, fine, but he wasn't making bad ones either. And he was the ONLY defender to make a play in the chiefs playoff game.

Furthermore Poyer's contract situation isn't bad enough to deserve to be cut.

I'm with people ok about moving on from Hyde, but Poyer? I think he earned more time with the squad. furthermore, i'd rather replace the safeties one at a time.

The Patriots did it the right way. It's better to move on a year to early than it is a year to late. Poyer could very well fall off a cliff next season. I'd move on.

It looked to me like they both lost a step last year. I would move on.

They had a great run for sure.

Now the page has to be turned IMO we gotta get younger.

I am not complaining about last year particularly.

But it was clear he has lost a step and his big plays immediately dried up minus the one in the playoffs. It’s another year on and he’s headed the wrong way. We need cap space. The smart move is to let him go and revamp the position.

it worked out fine getting 2 new safeties when they brought in Hyde and Poyer
