Another reason to get a WR in the first round this year

    The prices are getting absurd.

Mike Evans at 30yo just signed a 2 year 52 million extension with 35 million guaranteed?!

Grab Diggs replacement out of the draft for short money.

The game has changed to the point where WRs are the new RBs.

And starting RBs are now paid like long snappers
Wake up, brush your teeth, and get ready for a day of hating the Dolphins. Or the Pats? How to choose?

What do long snappers do when not long snapping?

Well #1 criteria is if the guy is good or not. #2 always remember #1.

In terms of position value, QB, DE (recent years some DT) have always been up there and top rated commend huge dollars. I don't really fault Beane for trying at DE, just that it has not pan out. Supposedly Basham's big proponent is Schoen, but Beane is the one who ultimately made the pick. So it is on him for a bust there.

Keep an eye on the name Darius Robinson for this years draft. Some rated him top 16 players, some have him early 2nd rounder. He plays DE at Missouri but can truly play DT, unlike some DE who kind of get-by at DT when asked to. And he has the ideal physical traits McDermott's scheme covet at DE/DT. The way the Bills asking Rousseau and Basham (when he was in Buffalo) to play both DE and DT to mix up in the front -- even Ed Oliver is asked to play DE at times on 3rd downs -- Robinson looks to be the perfect match for the Bills. Like a 2 for 1 for both DT and DE rotation. I read somewhere that there are people saying if he's available at 28, regardless receivers available at the time, Robinson is a no brainer for the Bills.

I’m weary of Darius Robinson types in general and of both Robinsons often attributed to our first round pick in this years draft.

Darius has classic a classic tweener body type. IMO highly likely to turn into Shaw Lawson (another tweener)…not terrible but nowhere near great.

Chop is another tweener that I keep seeing projected to us… I wouldn’t want him either, but would rather him than Darius because at least he has a great bend and speed…maybe he turns into Dwight Freeney?

I have posted research before that shows hardly ANY team has two players in the same position within the top 10 in average salary per year. Diggs is #5.

The only way forward for any NFL team is to cycle through WR's with draft picks.

The Bills are in a pretty good position (IF we get a good WR in round one or two this year) who will be on a cost controlled contract for 4 or 5 years.

When one looks at the data, it's readily apparent that it is an extreme anomaly to have two highly paid players in one position. For example, with WR's (2023 data...I have not updated my spreadsheet) this is the rank of the top two highest paid WR's (avg/y) for each team

                  49er - #7, #69
                  Bears - #9, #52
                  Bengals - #26, #36
                  Bills - #5, #49
                  Broncos - #20, #28
                  Browns - #13, #84
                  Bucs - #12, #17
                  Cardinals - #74, #83
                  Chargers - #10, #11
                  Chiefs - #20, #64
                  Colts - #57, #87
                  Commanders - #8, #23
                  Cowboys - #22, #31
                  Dolphins - #1, #39
                  Eagles - #4, #44
                  Falcons - #42, #80
                  Giants - #41, #50
                  Jaguars - #15, #35
                  Jets - #21, #25
                  Lions - #51, #71
                  Packers - #82, #94
                  Panthers - #34, #46
                  Pats - #27, #33
                  Raiders - #2, #18
                  Rams - #2, #112
                  Ravens - #19, #60
                  Saints - #29, #47
                  Seahawks - #6, #16
                  Steelers - #14, #38
                  Texans - #37, #78
                  Titans - #58, #126

I'm nowhere as plugged in as you guys on draftees skillset etc. Where the Bills draft, you are going to be limited to prospects with some deficiency, especially at high profile positions like DE. A Bruce Smith type of prospect is never going to pass top 5, right after top rated QBs. It's all about projection.

What I read is that Darius Robinson is raw, no plan in pass rush, no counter moves, etc., right now, he is purely using force. Has a twitch upper body to power O-Line quickly.

So I do see concerns, like people before him, Basham for example, you can dominate in college with force, but in NFL, everyone is strong. Plan for rushing moves etc. can be taught I guess. That's what people say he's an ascending player. His lack of feet quickness is a concern

                          Well....no one is asking you.

I believe you are wrong. If there was ever a win-win trade, it was that one.

The Bills needed a sure thing, proven talent to get Josh to the next level. It paid off spectacularly with Josh going from inconsistent "Tier 3 QB" who had many doubting if he would realize the lofty expectations, to a amazingly improved "a hair outside a Tier 1 QB" Diggs' first year, to a bona-fide superstar and undeniable elite "Tier 1 QB" with explosive compatibility with Diggs his 2nd year with the Bills.

Justin Jefferson, like almost every first round pick, was a risk as around 50% of 1st round picks are either disappointments or full blown busts.

JJ went #22 overall, the 5th WR selected in 2020. Three of those picked ahead of him fit that description perfectly....

#12 - Henry Ruggs - in jail - full blown bust.
                          #15 - Jerry Jeudy - a disappointment
                          #17 - CeeDee Lamb - a hit
                          #21 - Jalen Reagor - a disappointment

That trade was good for both teams.
