It's not just Beane and the Bills....this is probably going to be the business model for the teams that are lucky enough to have a true franchise quarterback, who is past his rookie contract.
Sign guys to one year deals. If they pan out, extend them. If they don't, release them.
Then hope to strike gold in the draft.
It's the only way to stay under budget while trying to remain competitive.

It’s an equal playing field so it doesn’t really matter in the long run. Right now the Bills are at a competitive disadvantage due to Millers contract/injury but they’ll be out from under it soon while other top teams will have their own Millers to contend with.
My question is how long before the NFL switches to a soft cap with a luxury tax as they do in MLB and the NBA.
That’ll solve a lot of problems.
