KANSAS CITY CHIEFS Police seek Chiefs' Rashee Rice

Police in Dallas are searching for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice over an investigation of a major accident that took place on Saturday evening, according to a report by The Dallas Morning News.

The outlet reported that a vehicle, which is believed to be registered or leased to Rice, was involved in a crash around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday.

Dallas police spokeswoman Kristin Lowman told The Dallas Morning News that the preliminary investigation determined a driver in a Chevrolet Corvette and a driver in a Lamborghini were speeding in the far left lane and both lost control of their vehicles. Two drivers were treated at the crash site for minor injures and two other people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, while police are still working to identify the suspects.

Credit to Tyler Dunne here. He had his annual piece with Bob McGinn which said some teams had removed Rice from their draft board over character concerns.

This is the local KC fans so there’s a chance the law might be enforced.

The occupants of the car registered to Rice reportedly left the scene. Rice reportedly has retained counsel.

Chiefs president Mark Donovan addressed the situation in an interview with KCMO on Monday morning.

“In all these situations you have to wait until you have all the facts and frankly, we don’t have all the facts at this point,” Donovan said, via NBCNews.com. “The one comforting fact that we do have is that there was a multi-car crash in Texas, in Dallas, and fortunately, it doesn’t appear that anyone was hurt and we should be grateful for that. We’ll get to the bottom of it, we’ll gather the facts and we’ll react accordingly.”

Re: KANSAS CITY CHIEFS Police seek Chiefs' Rashee Rice

Word emerged on Monday that Rice leased the Lamborghini Urus involved in the crash. Via TMZ.com, Rice also owns the Corvette.

Under a Texas law enacted in 2023, both cars could be subject to forfeiture. (Via TMZ.com, the Lamborghini reportedly was totaled in the crash.)

The bigger issue is whether Rice was driving the Lamborghini. Via TMZ.com, Rice admitted to involvement in the crash, in communications with the company that owns the car.

As noted earlier, it appears that Rice climbed from the driver’s seat out of the front passenger door, in dashcam video of the crash and its aftermath.

If Rice was driving, he faces potentially serious criminal penalties for leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries.

Re: KANSAS CITY CHIEFS Police seek Chiefs' Rashee Rice

Rashee Rice faces potential discipline from NFL or Chiefs

Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice faces problems on various fronts, due to Saturday night’s street race that became a six-car crash. Civil liability is a given. Criminal liability is very possible, if he was driving one of the cars.
Apart from the potential consequences imposed by the legal system, Rice could endure possible punishment from the NFL or the Chiefs.
The league could impose discipline under the Personal Conduct Policy. If he was driving (and street racing) and if he left the scene of an accident involving injuries, he could be suspended by the NFL.
It’s not as simple for the Chiefs to take action. They could cut him for the incident, and they could void his guaranteed salary for 2024 (if he was indeed street racing). He possibly could be suspended for conduct detrimental to the team, but that would be a challenge — it’s the offseason and the conduct had nothing to do with his job.

Chiefs WR Rashee Rice was driving car in Dallas chain-reaction crash, his attorney says

Kansas City Chiefs' player Rashee Rice was the driver of one of two speeding sports cars who left after causing a chain-reaction crash on a Dallas highway over the weekend, the wide receiver's attorney said Thursday.

Why Rice left the crash Saturday was "a good question that's still being investigated," said Rice's attorney, state Sen. Royce West, but he declined to elaborate. West expects charges to be filed against Rice, who was driving a Lamborghini sport utility vehicle, he said at a news conference without his client.

Small amount of marijuana found in car Rashee Rice was driving - NBC Sports

Police found 10.8 grams (less than an ounce) of marijuana in the Lamborghini that Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice was driving, according to a police report obtained by WFAA.
The amount makes it a Class B misdemeanor charge in Texas. Class B misdemeanors are punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a fine not to exceed $2,000.
Attorney Royce West admitted at a Thursday news conference that Rice was driving the Lamborghini Urus. Both high-end vehicles involved in the alleged street race that resulted in a six-car collision in Dallas were linked to Rice.

Re: KANSAS CITY CHIEFS Police seek Chiefs' Rashee Rice

Arrest warrant issued for Rashee Rice, who faces eight charges

An arrest warrant has been issued for Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice for his part in a multi-vehicle crash in Dallas last month, WFAA reports. Rice’s attorney acknowledged last week that his client was driving the Lamborghini SUV, which allegedly was racing a Corvette leased in Rice’s name.

Rice, 23, faces six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and one count of aggravated assault, according to the arrest warrant obtained by WFAA.

All of the charges are felonies.

Theodore Knox, the driver of the Corvette, faces the same charges as Rice. A Teddy Knox is listed as a cornerback on SMU’s football team, which is where Rice played collegiately.

NFL continues to monitor felony case against Rashee Rice - NBC Sports

The Chiefs also could release Rice, avoiding the potential requirement of having to pay him while he is unavailable to play. He has a fully-guaranteed salary of $1.045 million for 2024. The Chiefs could potentially void the guarantees, based on the language of his contract.

The Chiefs had no comment on the matter as of Wednesday night.

Re: KANSAS CITY CHIEFS Police seek Chiefs' Rashee Rice

The eight felony charges — six of collision involving bodily injury, one of collision involving serious bodily injury, one of aggravated assault — do not include charges for leaving the scene of an accident involving injury. Those could still be coming.
The league typically waits for the criminal case to resolve itself before imposing discipline. Because Rice faces felony charges, he could be placed on paid leave.
The league often doesn’t use paid leave in the offseason, since there’s nothing to be on leave from. The Chiefs could ask Rice to skip the offseason program. In 2019, the Chiefs and receiver Tyreek Hill agreed that he would stay away from offseason workouts while authorities were investigating a broken arm suffered by his son. Hill eventually was not charged.
