    Don Granato was fired

F-him, he had talent on the team & couldn’t coach them in the playoffs with a 2.5 GAA goalie. After averaging 4 goals last season this was a fallen apart situation.

I'm more concerned somehow Matt Ellis still has a job.

I have no idea why, after the quarter season mark, and the power play was a disaster, Granato didn't ask someone else to run it or run it himself.

The power play is why the Sabres missed.

Matt Ellis has powerful friends within the organization. He didn't come as a tag-along to Granato. Yes, he should go. And likely will go. When they find the right coach.

Anyone else notice the huge TED NOLAN sign in the crowd at the last game?

Don't bring back that cokehead please.

I don't know. Part of me says "enough of the first time hires" but a part of me doesnt want a retread.

I like Peca. A lot. The work he put into the players as an assistant was a major reason kids developed in Roch and Buff. But is he a future head coach? I don't know. I'd hate to hire him and have him not be head coach material. I'd hate to overlook him and him catch on and be a great head coach elsewhere. I guess I'd look to the AHL or even the OHL for a coach. Maybe even overseas.

Berube is someone they should, at least, look at.

You have to think that they have someone in mind otherwise they would not have cut ties with Granato so quickly after the season.

And message to Dahlin and the rest of the players that whined about the fans booing Granato and calling for his head: PLAY BETTER and you won't get the next coach fired. Granato had 3 seasons. That's enough to get the team to the play-offs. He didn't do it.

Ha I had a similar thought. I watched probably 50 games this year and I just couldn’t stop thinking about how much of this team’s problems are because that damn video coordinator is really holding them back.

I mean, to be fair, Housley and Kruger had Reinhardt and Eichel at the same time and still couldn’t win.

    Ellis' contract is now up.

Whoever the new Sabres coach is, he's likely to want his own personnel.

    Re: Don Granato was fired

That Washington and the NY Islanders made it into the play-offs and the Sabres didn't should be infuriating to each and every fan. Those two teams suck. And we've been hearing the youth movement in Buffalo since Dahlin arrived. Blah, blah, blah. Granato's one claim to fame was moving Tage Thompson to center. He rode that move for three seasons. It was enough. Skinner has slid back to the Krueger-time 3rd line. Should be gone. The GM now has a target squarely on his back. Clean up this roster. Be bold enough to move on from the old Girgensons, despite the owner publically claiming his love for the player. Get some young, big, tough wingers onto the last two lines.

The Predators made the play-offs. They are using former Sabre/Amerk Mark Jankowski (a 6' 4" center) on their second line. WTF? The Sabres couldn't find use for him? The Predators used him to help get them into the play-offs. Another Kevyn Adams mis-step? LINK

    Re: Don Granato was fired

    Good riddance.

    I want Joel Quennville.

At least the players will go home from practice tired.

Second choice would be Ruff for the same reason, although he has his warts too.

    You can keep Berube.

I am reminded of the rise and fall of Berube in St. Louis...

He took the 2021-22 Blues to 49 wins and 109 points with Tarasenko/Ryan O' Reilly
In 2022-23 the team dropped to 37 wins and 81 points.

Things continued in the next season when, at 28 games in, Berube was fired.
