The NFL announced on Monday that the season will kick off with the Chiefs facing the Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday, September 5. The game will be broadcast on NBC.

It is a rematch of the AFC Championship Game in January, although that matchup took place in Baltimore rather than Kansas City. The Chiefs won that game 17-10 and went on to beat the 49ers for their third Super Bowl title in the last five years.

The entire schedule for the 2024 season will be unveiled on Wednesday night. Both the Chiefs and Ravens will likely be set for several more primetime games after they kick off the season in one of the league’s spotlight games.

Chiefs are 3-point favorites over Ravens in 2024 NFL opener


When the Chiefs and Ravens last met, at Baltimore in the AFC Championship Game, the Ravens were four-point favorites but the Chiefs won 17-10.

It’s the second consecutive year the NFL season is opening in Kansas City because it’s the second straight year the Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champions. Last year the Chiefs were 3.5-point favorites against the Lions in the opener, but Detroit won 21-20.

This is the 18th time the NFL has opened its regular season with the reigning Super Bowl champion playing at home, a tradition that started in 2004 and has continued almost every year since. The Super Bowl champs have been favored in 16 of those 18 games.

Chiefs will host Bengals in Week Two - NBC Sports

Monday brought word that they will host the Ravens on Thursday, September 5 in the first game of the season. On Tuesday, we learned who they will play in Week Two.

The Bengals will be at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, September 15. The game will kick of at 4:25 p.m. ET and it will be broadcast on CBS.

If all goes according to plan, the matchup will be a continuation of the Joe Burrow-Patrick Mahomes rivalry that played out over the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Burrow and the Bengals beat the Chiefs on the road in the AFC title game after the 2021 season, but Mahomes got the win back in the next playoffs. The two teams played in Week 17 last season, but Burrow was out with a right wrist injury and the Chiefs got a 25-17 win on their way to a second straight Super Bowl title.
