Panthers sign Jenkins to deal for $31 million

Imagine hitting the lottery for $127.55 million. What would you buy?

    How about a defensive line?

That's the going rate for what could be the best defensive line in the NFL. The Carolina Panthers put the finishing touches on the price tag Tuesday by signing defensive tackle Kris Jenkins to a five-year contract extension worth $31 million.

Jenkins, whose previous contract ran through 2004, will receive $9.175 million in signing bonus, roster bonus and option bonus. Securing Jenkins for the long term means the Panthers have each of their four starting defensive linemen under contract through at least 2007.
