    Alzheimer's Cases May Triple by 2050

    The number of Americans with Alzheimer's disease could more than triple to 16 million by 2050, new research indicates.

    The projections, presented Monday at an international Alzheimer's conference in Stockholm, Sweden, are slightly higher than those conducted 10 years ago, mostly because more people are expected to live beyond the age of 85 than were predicted a decade ago.

    Some 4.6 million Americans currently suffer from Alzheimer's.

    The deteriorating health of N. America is purely diet related. Ne need more leafy greens and protein and essential fatty acids from sources like purslane, flax and salmon. As much as the Inuit eat fatty food, they suffer very little from conditions like heart disease becuase they take in so much Omega-3's, which act to suppress inflamation disorders.

    I think Alzheimer's is one of the saddest diseases anyone could get. Our memories are some of the most precious things we have that are ours and that no one can take away from us. It hurts the person suffering and also their family. I feel very sorry for the peopl who suffer with it. I couldn't even imagine not remembering who my family was. Very sad.

    I wonder how much of the "increase" is also due to diagnosis.......

    Rude... I understood the "leafy green" (rabbit food - blech), salmon ( ) .........

    Jaded it is sad.... a friend of mine's mother has it, and at the last family reunion she kept asking where one of her sons were. He had died several years ago. That was really rough on the family (the brothers were very close).

    My great grandmother has it. She was born in 1900. She should be dead by now, so I guess her Alzheimers isn't such a bad thing.

    I'm not a big fan of Alzheimers.

    I haven't seen anything showing a familial connection but who knows...increased diagnosis and awareness if the number one reason rates are going up. Years ago, seniors just got senile...not it is an actual disease.
