    Talking A Hockey First!

I'm coaching my daughter's novice hockey team & we did an unusual move today, probably a hockey first. :)

With a face off in the opponents end, & the action clearly behind their net, we did
an on-the-fly goalie change. We had promised the back up goalie that we would get her in halfway through the third period, but when her time came up, do you think we could get a whistle? So we did it!

The ref was shaking his head coming down the ice...I told him it's one of those new, European things.

    Anyway...good for a chuckle. :)

Can the Sabres change 25 players on the fly?

LOL, I had coffee this morning with a buddy of mine who's the supervisor of officials for our minor hockey association here...a real sharp ex-ref.

He shook his head too, laughed & then said if the ref was on the ball, we would have gotten a penalty as the goalie is not allowed to be on the ice past the blue line, except for times when the goalie is pulled for an extra attacker.

Maybe that's why nobody changes goalies on the fly.
