Always down to help a fellow music fan out...
So I was returning from my inspection today in Frederick....
I'm driving down the ally to my work parking lot jamming Hendrix and I pass this older black guy. Out of the corner of my eye, I see him wave at me and say something... I just kept driving... I don't trust many people around here. The place I work is right near the "ghetto."
I pull up and park... get out of my ride... look up and see the guy standing there looking at me.
I'm like "Oh ****, he's gonna rob me!" lol. JK. I didn't know what to think.
Anyways, he says "All I heard was 'Hello my friend...' ( a line from the song I was jamming ) yada yada yada. He says "man I'll give you 20 bucks right now if you give me that CD you were listening to.
I'm like why don't you go buy it in the store for $20?
"Well I just moved here from Florida and I don't know my way around. I used to have every Hendrix cassette but they all got stolen. I'd really appreciate if you gave that to me, I love that song and haven't heard it in forever!"
So I gave him just about every Hendrix CD I had in the ride: Axis Bold as Love, Electric Ladyland, Band of Gypsies, Are you Experienced, First Rays of the New Rising Sun, Blues Album...
This guy was in shock that I was listening to that type of music seeing as how I looked. He said I was the first person he'd met in this area w/ a good head on his shoulders and didn't try to sell him crack. He then went on for about 20 minutes about how hip-hop was clouding the minds of young black kids and turning them off from good music, which I totally agreed with. He's like "man these niggas don't know jack about music anymore" or something to that effect. lol He said in his opinion, hip-hop is cool, but a lot of people that listen to it nowadays, listen strictly to that and will not try anything else, which I also agreed with.
The guy seemed very cool. He was 54 years old I think he said.
Anyways, I made a new best friend today.
nice work dude! great story.
I almost forgot! He also said something about being a big Floyd fan so I hooked him up with Piper at the Gates of Dawn and gave him Dub Side of the Moon to try out...
BTW I didn't take any money from him. I have all of those copied to my computer and on data CD's already.
He's just sizing you up - he's gonna rob you next week.. lol..
I do know where he lives though!
I think he was legit ... either that or he can fake the Southern accent very well!
