This gives a whole new meaning to the term "fruit" fly...

Researchers have found that one gene--a kind of master sexual gene that normally exists in distinct male and female variants--can be manipulated to create polar-opposite patterns of sexual behavior in fruit flies.

In the scientific journal Cell, the researchers detail a series of experiments in which female fruit flies given the male variant of the gene acted exactly like males in courtship, madly pursuing other females, while males given the female version became more passive and turned their sexual attention to their own sex.

and btw...as I have said all along...many things are programmed into our brains that we have no clue about...I have know gay guys who have admitted never being attracted to a woman...lesbians who have never had the urge to be with a man...I know a white woman who has never wanted to be with a white man; just african-americans...I personally have always been overly attracted to brunette women with slightly olive or darker skin...anybody care to explain those associations? The article points out that the relevance of this to human sexuality is unclear. Insects are much simpler, and their sexual behavior is largely phermone-driven. Human sexuality is much more complex, and there are more environmental and experiential factors involved.

There have been articles published fairly recently looking into possible genetic links to homosexuality, but the jury is still out and the research continues....

I guess the implication is that if fruit flies are gay, then there's nothing wrong with same sex marriage.

Which also implies to me there's nothing wrong with people tossing turds at the dinner table if monkeys do it.
