Inside the Herd: OL Duke Preston

The Bills’ fourth round draft pick, Duke Preston, signed his first NFL contract on July 6 and got his first taste of Buffalo fans by answering questions submited by Bills Backers. Preston, originally from Southern California, answers questions on his expectations, his favorite NFL team as a kid and even his ‘excitement’ for winter in Buffalo. You wanted to know and now – it’s time to get to know Duke.

Daniel Hayes (Avoca, N.Y.): There is always talk about the relationship between a QB and his center; much like a pitcher to his catcher. Could you touch on that? Is there really a comfort level which is reached or is it just a combination of talent?
Duke Preston: The relationship is key just in terms of huddle-presence and being on the same page. The biggest thing is being on the same page, the center communicates with the rest of the offensive line in terms of the blocking scheme and the quarterback, in a sense, communicates with everyone else. If everyone isn't on the same page then you will have five guys doing one thing and the other six doing something else. Then, personality-wise and 'clicking with guys' is always key and there is somewhat of a bond between the quarterback and the center, because, you know, he is up underneath you all day.
