Save the Sabres: Curtain for the Arena

WGR radio in Buffalo contact somebody who put up an acoustic curtain in the Civic Center in Hartford. The cost, several years ago, for a smaller building, was...$300,000.

He estimates the curtain for the Arena will cost approx. $500,000....just for a curtain...that probably would not include labor.

Interview to occur at 9:00 am.

ok eb......I thought that this was some other ploy to get more money out of the city for something that really doesn't need to be fixed to begin with.

Instead of investing in a curtain for a 1/2 million, why not give the money to the team to help alleviate the debt?

not mid-range (6,000-12,000). Shea's only holds 4,500 and they don't like having rock concerts there and Kleinhans only holds about 2,500. Alumni Arean holds about 5,000 but the acoustics are horrible (it is concrete).

There are also other sports teams in Buffalo. I have never been to a destroyers game but it must not be a very pleasant experience sitting there watching a game when the upper bowl isn't even being used. One of the things you look for in a live sporting event is intensity. That sounds real boring to me. I remember going to manley field house man that place was intense. You would think the Carrier Dome and it's 40K fans at a BB game would be more intense...but it isn't. In Manley the fans are packed in from the floor to the roof. It was awesome. I can only speculate the curtain will close the arena down and things won't seem so empty there at other events.

I took 9 screaming little bastards to a Destroyers game last year around the 4th of July. For once, I was glad the place was deserted. Easier to catch the little punks when they run away.

Doesn't Darien Lake have something? Or is that only outdoors?

Darian Lake is one of the worst places on earth to see a concert. It is also outside you can't really compare it to an arena. Not having a decent sized arena in a city the size of Buffalo would be a travestry. I'll say it again incompetent management is the challenge with the arena not that it exists.

Darien i think hurt the arena. I liked the few concerts i went to but over all the sound is better at the arena. I assume darien lake being privately owned doesn't have the associated politics that the arena has involved. Also i bet it's cheaper.

I haven't attended any concerts yet since I moved here, so I was curious what venues there are. Thanks guys.
