Earlier this season in a game between the Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens, a mad scramble for the puck occurs in the Montreal end of the ice. Just as the puck is about to slide across the Canadiens' blue line, Sabres center Paul Gaustad makes a dash to keep the puck inside the line. Although successful at his attempt, Gaustad slams head-on into Montreal defenseman, Mike Komisarek, who sends the Buffalo rookie to his back on the ice.

Re: Hard work carried Gaustad to NHL
Gaustad reminds me of Mair so much, glad to have him as a part of the team. He's just so much energy out there. When he was on the line with Mair they just tooled with the opponents so much, their work behind the net is incredible.“You hold a players only meeting and get each guy to stand up and say what he can bring to the table... and if he doesn't, you punch him in the face.” ~~ Harry Neale, on how to fix the Sabres season.
