Since the CRK's made the move to gain the #1 overall pick in the rookie draft last month, all signs have been pointing to superstar RB Reggie Bush from USC being the pick. The CRK's have been in intense negotiations with Bush and his representatives since they acquired the pick.
All may not be going as smoothly as planned however. Sources have revealed that the CRK's have been in talks with several other players and have plans to bring them in to the facilities for a visit prior to the draft.
Those contacted are said to be LB AJ Hawk, QB Matt Leinart, DE Mario Williams and T D'Brickshaw Ferguson. All players that would fill needs on the CRK squad and give major upgrades at their respective positions. However, the CRK's would ahve to believe Leinart is better than advertised since he would probably have to sit behind new QB Jacke Delhomme for several seasons.
Insiders have said that there may be soem doubt in the minds of the management at CRK that a deal with Bush could get done, and some may even be questioning if one of those other players might be more valauable to the team as the #1 pick.
Still, this could just be a negotiating ploy by the CRK's to try to get a better deal out of Bush's representatives. When reached for comment Coach Parcells simply reminded the media that just because you might know what kind of car you want to buy, doesn't mean you can't look under a few hoods before you make a final decision.
If things do not go as planned, the CRK's have not ruled out trading down several spots and taking one fo the other players in the top 5, but most believe that would require immediate help and other picks.
Things are definitely starting to heat up in north of the border.
