    Rangers land Kovalev

The New York Rangers have turned to a familiar face in the push for their first playoff spot in six years.

The Rangers won the sweepstakes for Alexei Kovalev, reportedly acquiring the All-Star right wing on Wednesday as part of an eight-player trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

According to Sportsnet of Canada, Kovalev was sent to New York with center Dan Lacouture and defensemen Janne Laukkanen and Mike Wilson for wingers Rico Fata and Mikael Samuelsson, defensemen Joel Bouchard and Richard Lintner and cash.

The cash-strapped Penguins have been looking to unload Kovalev, who is making $4.6 million in the final year of his contract. And if there's anything the Rangers have, it's money.

    OMG

    *Stomps feet*

The Rangers get all the really high priced.. quality guys.. now Kovalev? It isn't fair that they're allowed to obtain so many guys.. they have an unlimited budget.. they are what's wrong with the NHL today.. they make it harder for smaller market teams to exist and be competitive..

Side note: 9 million for Bobby Holik though.. BWAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Too bad their team still sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm really confused in trying to understand how the hell the Rnagers make money.. they've missed the playoffs.. they spend so much on players.. how do they make money? They don't have *that* many fans.. they aren't successful.. what the hell? I don't get business.. but how does that work and how do they never lose money? Good teams like LA, St. Louis and Ottawa are having financial difficulties DESPITE having a good team.. while the Rangers.. who've missed the playoffs.. 5 years in a row.. seem to be profitting and making money...... HUH?

BironsGirl - Are you forgetting that getting those players doesn't make them good? The Rangers are pathetic.

Oh I know they aren't good.. they suck..

But it makes me mad that they are able to buy anyone they want.. we struggle to keep Satan at 3.5 mill a year.. and we have to constantly dump salary while they just add and add.. maybe some day they'll be good.. but how are they allowed to do this..

    We need a salary cap..

And bf1.. the players they do get are good.. Bure.. Lindros.. and now Kovalev.. they are good players

Let me get this straight...the Pens get 3 hockey cards (trust me...look up their stats they are as valuble as their cards) and $4.5 mil in exchange for Kovalev??

Well Mario said they would not go into bankruptcy again...guess he is holding onto his word because he just saved a bucket load...he team is going to suck but he saved money.

Yeah this is such a bad trade for the Pens.. well they did save money.. but c'mon.. they were screwed!!!

Samuelsson has played 58 games and has 8 goals, 14 assists.
Bouchard has played 27 games and has 5 goals, 7 assists.
Lintner has played 10 games and has 1 goal.
Fata has played 36 games and has 2 goals, 4 assists.

Kovalev alone is worth more than these guys.... and plus the Rangers got 3 others.... ouch

Rico Fata's a sleeper. He's probably the fastest skater in the NHL.

Now it will be really funny if they don't make the playoffs.
