Eagles propose fourth-and-20 alternative to onside kick

Eagles propose fourth-and-20 alternative to onside kick - NBC Sports

This year, the Eagles are proposing a rule that would allow teams that score a touchdown or field goal to follow it up by taking the ball at their own 20-yard line, and being faced with a fourth-and-20. If the scoring team converted the fourth-and-20, it would keep the ball and go from there.
It’s not the first time such a rule has been proposed, and in the past it hasn’t gone anywhere. In the past the most common proposal has been fourth-and-15, but the Eagles may think that by making the conversion more difficult, more teams will favor it.

Former President Donald Trump early Thursday touted the results of a new NPR/PBSNewsHour/Marist poll showing him ahead of President Joe Biden by 8 percentage points among independents.

Terrible idea. It's going to change the nature of the game. Too big of a change that will be exploited. Teams will do onside kicks the entire game because analytics say so.

No way analytics would say go 4th and 20 from your own 20 unless it’s from someone named Anna Litiks and she eats paste.

A bad idea that won't pass.

When team are down 20+ points they will do it every possession. Terrible idea. Scores will be 56-20. Just go back to the old kickoffs.

That would be converted more often than an onside kick would. It would also bring the refs and a lame PI or defensive holding call back into play. Stupid stupid stupid idea!

No. Being down 20 and not converting gives the ball over deep in your own territory. Now you are down 23-27 points. Now you need to score again to get another 4th and 20 attempt.

I'd rather see a 60 yard FG attempt, at least the refs can't call a phantom penalty on that.

No way. What a waste of effort.

Wake me up when the owners approve this proposed rule.

It appears the Eagles want to see Patti Mahomie and the Chiefs never lose another game?

                            No soccer style kickers allowed.

Just roll a 10-sided die lol

For a ref's call to decide a onside possession… would be horrible.
