Von Miller hopes to return for Week 14 vs. Jets

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ek-14-vs-jets/

“I did get hurt,” Miller said. “You know, the news is not the best of news. But it’s definitely not the worst of news. It’s kind of like in the middle.

“I didn’t tear my ACL. That was the huge part of it. But I do have some lateral meniscus damaged, and it’s going to have to be addressed. But I do feel like I can play through that. So I’m going to wait a little, let the swelling go down for about 7-10 days and hopefully right before the Jets game, I will be back.”

It sounds as if he’ll need to have surgery at some point. But it sounds as if he’ll be able to keep going, eventually, despite the injury.

I really didn't expect he'd be back ..... maybe our luck is beginning to change!

That’s good news. I tore my meniscus in the Air Force it took them 7 years to find it. I played semi pro football, hockey for our base team along with many other activities. It swells up and it hurts but tolerable. I waited a few year to have surgery, the biggest issue was all the scare tissue.

He should be able to go 100%!

Awesome news. Team is getting healthy and should be stomping opponents again soon.

He probably will be on a pitch count for passing downs only. That’s ok, we need him more in the playoffs.

If we can have a couple weeks injury free we'll only be down Hyde. Perfect time of year to be getting healthy.

I'd rather he let it heal and have him for the playoffs then risk losing him for the rest of the year in a regular season game.

Don’t be surprised if Hyde comes back if the Bills get deep in the playoffs.

Is he eligible to return this year?

The minuscules is at is at worst a bone on bone an issue. But when you are making the money Miller is you deal with it!!! It hurts and it swells but it the easiest of the knee issues. God I hope he doesn’t try to milk this!!!

How would you feel with him being on a pitch count type of thing?

    We rotate anyway so ........

Yes I like the pitch count especially early in his return so he can test it and feels more comfortable about it.

Re: Von Miller hopes to return for Week 14 vs. Jets

The problem with torn cartilage, is that there is an attached fragment floating around in the knee.

    Trust me, I've torn both.

If that piece is big enough, it can get torn worse if it gets caught in between the two bones when the leg bends.

That's the way Dr. Smith, who used to be one of the Bills orthopedic surgeons explained it to me.

    This is tricky.

If it were me, I would have the microsurgery to clean it up, and be back in six weeks.

I had the surgery in late November of '93, and was doing 10 mile runs by the middle of January.

Didn't Deon have the surgery as a cowboy, and return three weeks later?

With a meniscus tear, there are two thing you can do. One is to repair it with stitches which is 6-8 weeks before returning, the other is to clip the torn piece couple days out. Some can be repaired and some can’t depends on the size of the tear. The obvious down side to clipping is you have bone on bone. Lots of athletes have both procedures and are fine. Like I said in another post, either procedure there’s some pain and swelling.

Almost the same post, lol. The way Dr. Smith explained it to you I feel lucky, I went 7 years before I had the surgery. Mostly because of bad doctors.

Re: Von Miller hopes to return for Week 14 vs. Jets

The first one wasn't bad at all.

After the second scope on my right knee, then I was almost bone to bone, which eventually wore down on the inside thanks to 800 miles a year running.

I have already qualified for a right knee replacement.

The question is....do I want to mess with it if it doesn't really bother me?

I’ve had mine cleaned up four times. Haven’t been to the doctors for it since we moved to Cleveland three years ago. Getting to the point where I might have to go soon.
On the replacement my uncle had both is done a year apart always said he wish he didn’t wait. There was a guy at the golf course I tend bar at that had it done in April and was back on the course end of June. He was in his early 70’s.

If he's a go next week as he hopes to be .... the limited snaps approach seems sound.
