Today was another good day for football. It was a slower practice, but still hard hitting as the players wore the shoulder pads. They worked on the 7-on-7, 11-on-11, Redzone offense, special teams kickoff returns, punting, and even some drills with the offensive linemen against the defensive linemen. There were some nice plays, and eye openers, but it was pretty much a normal day of Bills practice.
Drew Bledsoe looked good and had sharp precise passes. He found Eric Moulds and Josh Reed many times. Bledsoe also connected with TE Mark Campbell a few times, as Dave Moore continued to sit out. They even had Drew Bledsoe work with the 2nd and 3rd team WR's and RBs at the end of practice. Alex Van Pelt had some good passes, but he also had a couple wobbly passes too. One of the plays that stuck out to me was when he hit Sammy Morris right in the numbers. Morris took it and ran down the field for a gain of 12. Travis Brown actually connected on some passes. However, one of them was to a cornerback. Brown overthrew Andre Rone badly. He seemed to do better when he didn't go deep. I gotta wonder if he only does good in a West Coast offense. When he threw the short passes and screens, they were successful. However, when he tried going deep, he couldn't connect and had problems.
Travis Henry was back on the field today and looked good. He had some runs for 12, 9 and 11 yards, but was also shut down in the middle. One time he tried to power through and you could see Sam Adams and Pat Williams slam the hole shut. Another time, Henry broke through the tackles and was gone. Overall, it was a pretty good day for him and it will good to see how much better the running game is with him in it this weekend.
Eric Moulds had another catch of the day and then some. He received a round of applause at least twice today. On one play, Alex Van Pelt threw a pass to Moulds and he made a sweet one-handed grab in front of Kevin Thomas' face. Another play, Bledsoe threw a pass towards the sideline and Eric Moulds leaped in the air to get it and got his feet down on the field before he went out of bounds.
Tony Driver looked pretty good returning kicks and also intercepted a pass off of Travis Brown today. He also had some good coverage.
Terrence McGee continued to shine today and had a very good day. On one play, he batted down a pass from Bledsoe to Antonio Brown. On another play, McGee covered Josh Reed very well and forced an incompletion. He also continued to return kicks and did pretty well doing it.
Kevin Thomas was another defensive player who stood out today. He had great coverage on the receivers and was not burned much, except that one play to Moulds. His special play was when he jumped up to bat the ball away and stopped Andre Rone from getting it.
In the OL/DL matchups, the defense seemed to do better job matching up with the offensive line. Pat Williams dominated Jonas Jennings and got right by him. However, Sam Adams was pushed back a little bit by Mike Williams. Adams also held his own at times against some of the other guys.
There was one fight today, well actually two. But they were against the same guys. On the first time, TE Raymond Thomas and LB Josh Stamer got into a little argument on the field and DL Coach Tim Krumrie grabbed Josh Stamer and literally pulled his away from Thomas. Later in the day, they had another fight and both of them were on the ground, Krumrie came back and split them apart again. They were kept away from eachother for the rest of the day, after that.
Overall, it was another fun day at camp, and the whole team signed autographs after practice. Even Gregg Williams signed for a while as he chatted with the fans. As for tomorrow, if everything goes right, RB Willis McGahee will be in camp signing autographs. I'll be back with the latest news from St. John Fisher tomorrow night.
