Clump's Week 4 Power Rankings

by Robert Balistreri

Well, I started to do week 2 power rankings and realized that it was fruitless. No way to accurately judge most teams. Thus, I decided to wait a couple of weeks and allow the dust to settle. Again, the number in ( ) after the team and team record is the average power ranking from some popular sites.

1) Kansas City
(4-0) (2.0)
Team has performed on the road and all facets have contributed. Dante Hall's KR for TD with about 5 minutes left was the game winner. Tough match-up with the Broncos this week.
2) Tampa Bay
(2-1) (4.3)
Bye week will help them prepare for the suddenly powerful Colts.
3) Indianapolis
(4-0) (1.3)
Dominating performance vs. the Saints. Bucs are not the Saints though. Tough game in Tampa this week
4) Minnesota
(4-0) (4.7)
Last week opponents were the Bears, Lions, and 49ers. I may have them too high.
5) Tennessee
(3-1) (7.3)
McNair is now 10-4 vs. the Steelers in his career. Defense stepped up with a few key plays. If George gets going, watch out!
6) Carolina
(3-0) (6.3)
Defense is arguably the best in the league. Free agent imports Jake Delhomme and Stephen Davis leading the charge on offense.
7) Denver
(4-0) (3.7)
Plummer may be finally proving that maybe it WAS actually playing QB with the Cards. Denver playing well. Ashley Lelie will make McCaffrey expendable after the season.
8) Seattle
(3-0) (6.3)
I need more proof before I can rank them higher. The defense is making big plays and Hasselbeck may finally be justifying the price paid to acquire him from the Packers. He has some tremendous offensive weapons,
9) NY Giants
(2-1) (9.7)
Inconsistency follows this team. Needs solid performance because the Fins come to town. Go Giants! LOL
10) Pittsburgh
(2-2) (12.7)
Tough loss at home to the Titans. Turnovers were key. I expect them to bounce back against the Browns this weekend.
11) Miami
(2-1) (9.3)
If they could play like last weekend on the road. Their defense is Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde when it comes to playing at home vs. on the road. I'll move them up if they can.
12) Washington
(3-1) (11.7)
Spurrier starting to realize that a balanced offense does work. Must tighten up late with leads.
13) Philadelphia
(1-2) (18.7)
Were they really that bad or was it a function of injuries and poor utilization of your resources? I think the latter. Tough important stretch coming up. Next 3 games vs. divisional foes.
14) St. Louis
(2-2) (13.3)
This team responds to Bulger. Imagine when Faulk gets back. Warner and his wife need to move on!
15) Buffalo
(2-2) (12.3)
I could write a book. If something goes wrong it does. Fans clamoring for McGahee, but it's really penalties that have done more to ground the running game. Defense needs to stop stupid mistakes as well. Coaching?
16) New England
(2-2) (16.7)
Injuries have hurt the defense. Need to generate a consistent running game in order to keep the defense off the field.
17) Dallas
(2-1) (17.7)
Is Quincy Carter the man long-term? Is Hambrick the man long-term? Time will only tell but the offense is playing well. Never count out a Parcells led team.
18) Oakland
(2-2) (17.0
/Patiently waiting for Jerry Porter to return from injury. Need him back soon because defense is giving up over 25 pts per game
19) Green Bay
(2-2) (18.3)
So goes Farve, so go the Packers. Ahman Green looked good, but it was the Bears. .
20) Baltimore
(2-2) (16.7)
Living with a rookie QB. Defense not as stout as in years past but it's good enough to win games if offense can hold onto the ball. Lewis is a beast at RB
21) Atlanta
(1-3) (22.0)
They REALLY miss Michael Vick. They REALLY miss the money paid to a career #2 WR who wants so badly to be a #1.
22) Cleveland
(1-3) (26.0)
Win at San Francisco, lose at home to the Bengals! Butch Davis needs to go back to college.
23) Houston
(2-2) (23.0)
Gutsy call to go for the win on last play instead of tying FG, but does anybody think that Dom Capers is going anywhere anytime soon. He has the ultimate job security right now. That makes that decisions a bit easier to understand. Carr to A. Johnson is a solid combo, they really need the feature back though.
24) Cincinnati
(1-3) (24.3)
Marvin Lewis have them playing competitive football. Bills better not look past them.
25) Detroit
(1-3) (27.3)
Another team in need of a feature RB.
26) San Francisco
(1-3) (21.3)
Too much talent not enough production. T.O. needs to call a TO!
27) New Orleans
(1-3) (24.7)
No team over the past few years has done less with this much talent.
28) NY Jets
(0-4) (29.0)
Can run or stop the run. Mistakes at key times as well. Can't continue to worry about the loss of Pennington. Maybe time to look to the future and play LaMont Jordan more at RB (Author has Jordan in a couple of fantasy leagues!)
29) San Diego
(0-4) (30.3)
At least with this start, we don't have to listen to the overrated Marcellus Wiley.
30) Arizona
(1-3) (28.7)
Blake and Boldin are a good tandem, but just not enough talent on this team.
31) Jacksonville
(0-4) (30.0)
Time to play the young guys and maybe consider trading some vets for future draft picks.
32) Chicago
(0-3) (31.3)
Any team with Kordell Stewart as your starting QB is going to be bad. Wasting the talents of a competent receiving corp. and Brian Urlacher.
