What does it mean to be a Bills fan to me? It means loyality, cheering for the red, white and blue, and New York. The Bills are what’s good with New York, because they have some of the most loyal fans out there. How else can you explain going to a game when it’s snowing or bellow freezing? And no, it’s not because us New Yorkers like the weather, there’s some that hate this weather. It’s the love of the team that we have been following since our youth. Now, I have never had the honor in attending a game at Ralph Wilson, but sometime in the near future I hope to.
People around the nation don’t get it, and I have lived in many different parts of America. They ask “Why root for a team that can’t win a Super Bowl?” “Why root for a team that plays in cold weather?” “Why not root for the Jet’s and Giants?” We've heard theose same questions over and over again, a every last one of them bug me to no end. At least the Bills got to a Super Bowl, that’s more than a lot of teams can say, let alone go to four straight.
Football was meant to be played in cold weather, none of this prissy, let’s play when it’s eighty out. NO. Have you seen some of the classic games? It’s snowing or cold out. That’s football, not what the Miami Dolphins play. And the last time I looked, New York's Jets and Giants play in New Jersey.
Then there are the players that we have grown to love. Players such as Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed etc, caught the attention of the fans not only state wide, but nation wide. Being a big guy (6’4 240) I always loved the linemen, and in fact I wore Will Wolford’s number while I played. The players I remember the most are House Ballard, Kent Hull, and of course big Will.
Basically, every team has great fans, but I believe that the Bills have the greatest, most rabid, sane fans around. When people want to learn what a football fan is, they should be shown tapes of games at Ralph Wilson stadium. We are the gold standard for good, sane fans, and Bills fans should be commended for that.
