2006-07 Buffalo Bills Student Leaders

The Buffalo Bills would like to announce that the following Buffalo Bills Student Leaders have been selected for the 2006-07 season. The program, designed to provide students with unique experiences that will develop leadership skills in preparation for their continuing education, is open to students who will be juniors or seniors as of September 2006.

Q&A with Takeo Spikes

Buffalo Bills linebacker Takeo "TKO" Spikes, a two-time Pro Bowl pick from Sandersville, is determined to come back from a torn Achilles' tendon. Before suffering the injury in the second quarter of last season's 24-16 loss to the Falcons on Sept. 24, the eight-year veteran missed only one game in his career — and that was because of his father's death. Spikes, in town last week to take part in a youth football camp, spoke with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the comeback, his career and the future of the Bills.

Bills Fans Once Again Being Asked to "Trust" Regarding OL

As Bills fans know all too well, the Bills have spent scant attention to their line in recent seasons. In the last 11 drafts, the Bills have selected only one offensive lineman in rounds 1 or 2. That lineman was Mike Williams, a decent pick at the time, yet one that did not work out falling to the "bust" side of things. The last lineman besides Williams selected by the Bills in round one or two was Ruben Brown in 1995, who was unceremoniously released for daring to tell the truth about this team when he was still on it. His flaw, daring to desire to win.

Kelsay Poised to Play Faster

A defensive end in a 4-3 defensive front is rarely 280 pounds, but Chris Kelsay was tipping the scales at that weight last season. "I got the heaviest I've ever been last year," said Kelsay. "The main reason behind that was I had to play inside more with Ron (Edwards) getting hurt, and Sam (Adams) getting hurt late in the year. I kind of needed to be a little bigger down in there."

Jauron fits bill for Endicott pair

J.B. Wells sounded like he had visited football's nirvana. Spending three days in the company of Dick Jauron and his Buffalo Bills would tend to leave a guest feeling he had a heavenly time, be it Wells, the coach at Endicott College, or anyone else in the grid fraternity.

Jackson still an unknown for Buffalo Bills

There's nothing like playing with a chip on your shoulder. Fred Jackson, the second to last selection in the NFL Europe allocated player draft earlier this year, finished as one of the league's offensive stars, second in the league's rushing race with 731 yards.

Bills fans love their Cookie

In Wednesday's article about legendary Buffalo Bills running backs Thurman Thomas and O.J. Simpson, one name that wasn't touched on was fan favorite Cookie Gilchrist. I'll still hang onto my belief that Thomas and Simpson are the top two in Bills history, but it's hard to ignore numerous emails from the team's loyal fans, wishing Gilchrist would have been mentioned.

Jim Kelly’s football camp continues to grow

Even Jim Kelly can’t believe how much the football camp that bears his name has grown. “It does get bigger and bigger,” he said. “We had to expand it to two camps.”

June 29, 2006

McDonald's Named Sponsor of Jim Kelly Football Camp

The Bills announced that Western New York area McDonald’s restaurants have agreed to serve as the title sponsor of the Jim Kelly Football Camp. Jim Kelly Football Camp began its operations in 1988 with 325 campers and now features a steady enrollment of more than 800 campers per year. Athletes come from all over the country to learn from the Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and his carefully-assembled staff of instructors and current and former NFL players.

Undrafteds in Depth: Denney Hopes to Shine Downfield

It was Chris Denney's junior season at Division II Nebraska-Omaha and on the team's schedule for the season opener was top rival Nebraska-Kearney. Three plays into the game Denney pulled his hamstring.

Bills waive DB Ward

Defensive back LaShaun Ward was waived by the Buffalo Bills.

Buffalo's defensive tackles have chance to surprise

During the Buffalo Bills' lengthy offseason, the organization has caught a great deal of heat for having a suspect group of players at the defensive tackle position. However, on paper, the Bills' tackles look capable of stunning those who don't believe they have what it takes.

June 28, 2006

Undrafteds in Depth: Neill a Driven Defensive End

When you read about Ryan Neill the football player, he sounds like a person who is very physically gifted. The defensive end had 18 sacks the past two seasons including 10 in 2005. As a senior he had an impressive 21.5 tackles for loss. He was a SI.com All American, a finalist for the Ted Hendricks Award (top defensive end) and named to several academic all-American lists.

O.J. v. Thurman; who's No. 1 in Bills lore?

In their 46-year history, the Buffalo Bills have had two great running backs that stood out from any of the other ball-carriers the team has ever possessed. Those two players are, of course, O.J. Simpson and Thurman Thomas. Without question, both are among the best the NFL has ever witnessed.

June 27, 2006

Undrafteds in Depth: Will the Bills Call on Hall?

Jason Hall is anything but a showboat. He's a defensive end that would rather focus on the task at hand than celebrate something that already happened. "Our scout Shawn Heinlen called him quietly productive," said Bills Assistant GM Tom Modrak. "He made plays at Tennessee."

Failure to upgrade left DE position could kill Bills

The Buffalo Bills' front office has made many moves this offseason that they perceive as upgrades, but the inability to address the team's left defensive end position could come back to gravely wound their chances this season. On the Bills' current depth chart, Chris Kelsay, Ryan Denney and Ryan Neill are penciled in as the only three left ends.

June 26, 2006

Undrafteds in Depth: DiGiorgio All About Hustle

When you have 462 tackles in a college career chances are someone is going to notice your productivity. And John DiGiorgio was noticed and honored for his tackle totals among his other impressive statistics as he was an American Football Coaches Association All-American, named conference player of the year, and linebacker of the year.

Bills could use a Peerless renaissance

This offseason, Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson and general manager Marv Levy have been at the brunt of many cruel jokes. Some of those wisecracks have been directed towards their ages of 87 and 80, respectively, while others have laughed at the duo's signing of low-level performers to rich salaries. Names like receiver Josh Reed and tight end Robert Royal were given lucrative deals, as was former star wideout Peerless Price.

June 25, 2006

The Bills' draft

It unleashed a festival of second-guessing, mostly based on the opinions of TV talking heads whose scouting expertise amounted to not much more than that of the fans themselves, watching a handful of games on television.

Reality will bite owners who select any Bills as fantasy QBs

The hot topic going into Buffalo Bills training camp undoubtedly will be the battle for starting quarterback. It's the game's glamour position and the man under center always receives the most publicity. But as a fantasy owner, not a fan, it shouldn't matter one bit.

Bills Team Report

After a slow start, QB Craig Nall showed steady improvement during the final two weeks of offseason workouts. He struggled with the new the offense, which is much different than the West Coast system he cut his teeth on in Green Bay. But his knowledge and execution of the offense got better as the spring progressed. Nall goes into training camp with a shot at the starting job, which is what he wanted when he signed with the Bills.

June 24, 2006

Long season turns ex-Griz into Berliner

Football was already a full-time job for former Kalispell and University of Montana standout Dylan McFarland. Then came this year. After spending most of the 2005 season on the Buffalo Bills' practice squad, McFarland was sent packing in March - to Hamburg, Germany, for a season with the NFL Europe Sea Devils.

Thomas includes family in return to Ottumwa

Thurman Thomas was indeed back in Ottumwa and back to help a very worthy cause Friday. The five-time Pro-Bowler, however, didn’t return to the City of Bridges alone. Unlike last year, when the all-time leading rusher of the Buffalo Bills made his first appearance in support of the McCreery Cancer Center, Thomas came to Ottumwa this year with his family alongside.

Bills report: Strategy and personnel

Veteran CB Nate Clements, who was retained as Buffalo's franchise player, will earn $7.2 million this season on a one-year contract. And in Buffalo's new "Tampa Bay" scheme, he'll be earning every dime.

Bills report: Inside slant

he Bills' three biggest impact moves, for better or worse, this off-season were the rehiring of Marv Levy as general manager, retaining unrestricted free agent cornerback Nate Clements, and trading wide receiver Eric Moulds.

Bills report: Notes, quotes

The Bills added a punter to give Pro Bowler Brian Moorman's golden leg a break during the long days of training camp, signing free agent Joshua Brazen. He was a three-year starter at Kent State where he ranks second in career average at 41.2 yards. He is a native of Ada, Ohio.

June 23, 2006

Losman Looking Forward

Heading into to the offseason following the 2005 campaign J.P. Losman needed some time to refresh himself mentally. He stepped away from the game that all but consumed his life for the better part of a calendar year and reconnected with family and friends.

Anderson returns home to mentor at camp

Attendance at the Fliers' football camp more than doubled this year, from 45 to 100. Organizers said the spike was aided by increased promotion and Clyde's performance last football season. The Fliers shared the Sandusky Bay Conference title with Huron, went 9-1 in the regular season and made it to the Division II Final Four before falling to Columbus St. Francis DeSales. Of course, the presence of Tim Anderson couldn't hurt.

Thomas returning to Ottumwa City of Bridges

When five-time Pro Bowl running back Thurman Thomas lost his stepfather to cancer four years ago, he made his mother a promise. “My mother told me a long time ago to always try to give back whenever I can,” Thomas said. “When I lost my stepfather to cancer, I promised my mom that I would make it a point to do events involving cancer treatment.”

Q & A with Bills All-Pro Takeo Spikes

Despite suffering a gut-wrenching Achilles tendon injury in a Week 3 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons last season, Buffalo Bills outside linebacker Takeo Spikes is in great spirits. The two-time Pro Bowler has worked extremely hard to return to form for the upcoming season, and it appears he will. Thanks to tireless rehabilitation and the motivation to succeed, Spikes is nearly at full strength.

June 22, 2006

Levy’s Amazing Link to Other Coaching Greats

The year was 1957 and a young assistant coach at the University of New Mexico, named Marv Levy had a voracious appetite for football knowledge. With aspirations of becoming a head coach, Levy traveled across the country attending countless coaching clinics to obtain every ounce of wisdom any proven college or professional coach was willing to offer.

Anderson back where he started

Celebrity is a term that can only be used loosely when Tim Anderson returns to Clyde. Even then, Anderson can only shrug it off. In a haze of gold shirts at Clyde's annual youth football camp, the massive, but modest, defensive tackle doesn't stick out with the mannerisms of a pro football player. But, in a community where there's only one football player who went on to Ohio State and the Buffalo Bills, Anderson stands out on merits alone.

Brazen impresses Bills, earns trip to camp

Ada product Josh Brazen won a free-agent punting derby and earned a ticket to Buffalo Bills training camp. The Bills signed the Kent State University punter to a free-agent contract after he impressed the scouting department during a kicking workout.

Bills' Nance has high hill to climb

In the Buffalo Bills' spring mini-camps, rookie wide receiver Martin Nance has been one of the team's standout performers. That comes as a surprise to many, since Nance went undrafted in April's festivities at Radio City Music Hall in New York. Just two days after the draft concluded, the Bills scooped him up, and so far the investment has paid off.

June 21, 2006

Four Downs: AFC East

In an inauspicious start to their draft, Buffalo pulled off not one but two of the first round's biggest reaches, prompting commentators to wonder if Marv Levy was in over his head as a general manager. But a funny thing happened on their way to draft ignominy: the Bills pulled off a string of impressive selections that made the overall quality of the draft look a whole lot better.

Buffalo Bills Sign Former KSU Punter Joshua Brazen

The Buffalo Bills today (June 21) announced the signing of undrafted free agent punter Joshua Brazen.

Backers Can Purchase Individual Game Tickets Early

The Bills announced that registered Bills Backers will have the opportunity to purchase individual game tickets for 2006 Bills home games, one day before the general public on Friday, July 14th at 9:00 am.

Bills Add Punter for Training Camp

The Bills made an addition to their kicking game Wednesday when they signed undrafted rookie free agent punter Josh Brazen to a contract. Brazen, who just finished his college career at Kent State, participated in a kicking workout with a host of other prospects for Buffalo's scouting department and emerged as the punter who will earn a look from the Bills at St. John Fisher.

Vincent Sold On Jauron

After the Buffalo Bills named Dick Jauron their head coach in mid-January Troy Vincent began to conduct a lengthy research project. As NFL Players Association President, Vincent had more than his share of contacts to draw upon for an honest take on Jauron's style as a head coach.

Burns excited about camp

The open invitation Joe Burns received last year has the former Thomas County Central running back darting home again. Burns, entering his fifth year with the Buffalo Bills, is holding his second Joe Burns Camp at the Central practice field July 1. The camp will begin at 9:30 a.m. and run until about 4:30 p.m.

June 20, 2006

Royal is a Locker Room Guy

It's early June and tight end Robert Royal is going on just his third month as a member of the Buffalo Bills. But he's more than comfortable going back and forth in a lengthy ribbing session in the locker room with defensive end Eric Powell. It's harmless and trivial, but lasts the better part of a half hour after the day's OTA session.

June 19, 2006

Bills tickets to go on sale

Individual game tickets for Buffalo Bills home games go on sale July 15 at the Bills Store at EastView Mall in Victor as well as at Ralph Wilson Stadium and all Ticketmaster outlets, the team announced Monday.

Vincent educates, but Simpson may start this year

In the Buffalo Bills' recent mini-camps, 14-year veteran free safety Troy Vincent has graciously helped the team's younger defensive backs learn the ropes. The five-time Pro Bowler has worked closely with Bills rookies such as first round strong safety Donte' Whitner, third round cornerback Ashton Youboty and fourth round free safety Ko Simpson.

Aiken aims to start out wide

The minute the Buffalo Bills dealt Eric Moulds to Houston this offseason, Sam Aiken’s career took a different path. No longer was Aiken a young receiver who would be asked to play on special teams and fill in on offense when there was an injury.

June 18, 2006

Are NFL contact rules being broken?

A few renegade NFL teams may have committed “NCAA” violations this spring. The transgressions have nothing to do with college athletics. We’ve bastardized the NCAA acronym to mean “No contact allowed anytime.”

Buffalo Bills Inside Slant

Willis McGahee lives. After skipping new coach Dick Jauron's entire off-season of voluntary organized team activities, the mercurial running back took part in the Bills' recent three-day mandatory mini-camp at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Bills won't gather again until July 28 in Rochester when training camp kicks off in Rochester, N.Y. The Bills tried to downplay McGahee's absence for most of the off-season but it concerned them enough to send assistant coach Eric Studesville to visit McGahee in Miami to touch base and check up on him.

Buffalo Bills Notes, Quotes

FS Troy Vincent on coach Dick Jauron: "In my 14 years, I'm seeing and hearing things that you're not accustomed to hearing. Usually it's two-a-day practices and all of that stuff. This coach is allowing players to be men. That's not this era. But you've got a guy who has seen it and done it the other way, and now is really fine with doing it his way. I'm sure as a coach, he's motivated and if he's going to do down, he's going to go down doing it his way."

Bills Team Report

RB Willis McGahee was noticeably lighter and leaner when he showed up for the team's mandatory minicamp last week. It was his first appearance in town since early March. He missed most of the team's offseason work, choosing instead to work out with a personal trainer in Miami. Some people questioned his commitment to the new coaching staff, and his absences drew criticism from legendary Bills RB Thurman Thomas.

June 16, 2006

Preston a Proud Son on Father’s Day Weekend

It was freshman year at the University of Illinois and Duke Preston was miserable. "I was a thousand miles from home and didn't know a soul," said Preston. "My coach was just a beast. He would cuss you out like it was drinking water. That was his style. Like my dad he had my best interests in mind, but that was just the way he came across. I struggled with it and had no friends. It was rough."

NFL: JETS: 2006 AFC East Preview: Buffalo Bills

The Bills have had one winning season in the 21st century. That statement, more than any other, explains why the Bills are where they are right now. Two seasons removed from a 9-7 stint, the team’s only winning campaign in the last six years, folks in Buffalo are in year one of a complete and major overhaul that reaches nearly every corner of the Bills’ football operation.

Bills' offense needs to stop its line dance

Given the importance of the position, it's no surprise everyone will be focused on the three-man quarterback race when the Buffalo Bills head into training camp this summer. But let's not lose sight of the major impact the offensive line will have on the outcome of the 2006 season.

Drawing on a talent just comes naturally

A long line of more than 100 people snaked out of The Bills Store at Eastview Mall, putting a smile on Terrence McGee's face. The fans had come to see the Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl cornerback/kick return specialist Thursday evening. The only question was whether they had come to see the player or the artist.

Fowler is the Bills' biggest question on the O-line

The Buffalo Bills' current starting offensive line is, for once, nothing to scoff at. It brings three stable veterans to the table in guards Tutan Reyes and Chris Villarial, and left tackle Mike Gandy. Joining that trio is projected right tackle, Jason Peters, who probably has the greatest upside of the group.

McGahee isn’t sending the best vibes

It’s probably not fair. After all, Willis McGahee wasn’t the only Buffalo Bills’ veteran to skip most of the voluntary off-season workouts, OTAs (organized team activities) and mini-camps.

June 15, 2006

Whitner Will Be Prepared

Despite the fact that Bills top pick Donte Whitner was not allowed to attend any of the team's organized team activities this spring due to Ohio State's late final exam schedule, don't think for a second that Buffalo's rookie strong safety isn't up to speed on Perry Fewell's defensive scheme.

Vincent doesn't regret parking his motorcycle

Troy Vincent used to ride motorcycles. He knew the risks and even had a few close calls. But his bikes are now in his garage collecting dust because he stopped riding a few years ago. The Buffalo Bills free safety didn't quit because of football. He had a more important reason - his family.

Bills won't rush to judgment on No. 1 QB

After four months of minicamps and organized team activities, the Buffalo Bills are no closer to having a starting quarterback than when the offseason began. J.P. Losman, Kelly Holcomb and Craig Nall are still locked in a tight three-man race, and the Bills are in no hurry to make a decision on who will be the No. 1 QB.

Bills player to visit new McDonald’s Saturday

The Fredonia McDonald has announced the Buffalo Bills player who will appear this Saturday afternoon at the new restaurant at the corner of Routes 20 and 60 in the village. Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Melvin Fowler (No. 67) will be at the Fredonia McDonald’s this Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. as part of its grand opening celebration.

Bills' McGee to unveil his artwork tonight at Eastview

Buffalo Bills cornerback/kick return specialist Terrence McGee will show his artistic side tonight at Eastview Mall in Victor.

McGahee loses the bulk; can he regain Miami form?

The Buffalo Bills' embattled starting running back, Willis McGahee, showed up at the team's mandatory mini-camp this week weighing a few pounds lighter than he did last season. The former first-round pick is currently tipping the scale at about 225 pounds, which is a good weight for a starting ball-carrier. McGahee has more than enough talent to carry the load in the pros, but his commitment has been questioned in the past.

June 14, 2006

Dolphins sign former Bills offensive lineman

While the Dolphins finish their final two days of offseason training activities before taking a break, they attempted to solidify the offensive line by acquiring former Bills right guard Bennie Anderson Wednesday.

Minicamp Ends With All Three QBs Still Competing

As two months of minicamps and organized team activities came to a conclusion at One Bills Drive Wednesday the Bills still have three quarterbacks in the hunt for the starting job.

Budget on low side for Bills

It's easy to tell the Buffalo Bills had their busiest offseason of free-agent shopping ever by watching the team's minicamp practices this week. New faces are all over the field at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Yet despite all the Bills' acquisitions, the team still has a roster with one of the lowest budgets in the NFL.

Ohio State rookies back after forced break

This week's mandatory three-day minicamp has been the Buffalo Bills' first chance to see rookie defensive backs Donte Whitner and Ashton Youboty in over a month.

Bills familiar with motorcycle risks

Monday's serious motorcycle accident involving Super Bowl-winning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers struck a chord with Buffalo Bills General Manager Marv Levy. While he was coaching at William & Mary in the mid-1960s, one of Levy's players died in a motorcycle crash. In 1997, Levy's last season as coach of the Bills, defensive tackle Shawn Price mangled his elbow riding his motorcycle and missed the start of the year.

Crowell looks to build on breakout season

Every time Takeo Spikes successfully completes an individual workout this spring, his rehabilitating right leg strengthens a bit. And inversely, Angelo Crowell’s hold on a starting linebacker job weakens. One scenario has Crowell supplanting current strong-side linebacker Jeff Posey, who has been quietly consistent — and consistently quiet — during his three-year tenure with the Bills.

June 13, 2006

Coaches Do What They Know Best, Not What’s Necessarily Best for Their Team: Part III

So what do the Bills now have? Well, it’s safe to say that the team is indeed being run from the perspective of former defensive backs as both players and coaches, and indeed it is. But wait, there’s more. It’s also being run by an offensive coach that has run the most unbalanced offense in the NFL over the past three seasons with a ridiculous lopsidedness towards the passing game.

Fletcher Takes the Field

Bills head coach Dick Jauron was willing to give London Fletcher all the time he needed after the passing of his mother last week. But Jauron is finding out quickly that Fletcher is a player he can always count on as the middle linebacker was participating at practice a day after his mother's funeral. For Fletcher, who also got married last weekend, football was a constant in what turned out to be a weekend of rollercoaster emotions.

Buffalo Bills Mini Camp: Day 2

QB Update: I wrote in my website piece that Nall looked good again today, and he did. Please don't take that to mean that Losman or Holcomb did not. The other two quarterbacks had their moments as well. It's just that Nall has had some struggles this spring and to see him doing better is an indication that he might be turning a corner. It will only make for a more interesting competition if he can pick up in training camp where he's leaving off in this minicamp.

Buffalo Bills interested in Former CFL Quarterback, Ryan Dinwiddie

Ryan Dinwiddie is about to sign a free-agent deal with the Buffalo Bills. The former Elk Grove and Boise State record-breaking passer has bounced around pro football, from the Chicago Bears to NFL Europe to the CFL. He's also finishing his degree at Boise State.

Bills RB McGahee sheds pounds, maintains confidence

Willis McGahee has shed a few pounds - and none of his confidence. 'I'm leaner and lighter,' the running back proclaimed after the Buffalo Bills opened a three-day mandatory minicamp Monday. And, perhaps, faster? 'Of course,' he said, before happily pulling up his practice jersey to show off a flat, defined stomach. 'I've got some abs going on.'

Youth Football Camp Taught by Top NFL Pro Bowl Players to Offer Youth and Displaced Hurricane Katrina Victims Camp Scholarships

Pro Power Football Camp is where Pros make the difference! NFL's Tony Dorsett (Dallas Cowboys / Hall of Fame 1994), Santana Moss (Washington Redskins), Clinton Portis (Washington Redskins), Shawne "Lights Out" Merriman (San Diego Chargers), Chad Johnson (Cincinnati Bengals) and others confirmed to participate July 10-14, 2006 at Wootten High School in Rockville, Maryland.

McGahee slims down, tries to catch up

Willis McGahee has been a busy man this offseason. He flew out to Los Angeles to be a guest host on the NFL Network's "NFL Total Access" show. He was in New York City chatting with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN's "Quite Frankly." McGahee has been everywhere, except at the Buffalo Bills' practice facility. The veteran running back has been conspicuous by his absences from offseason workouts, organized team activities and minicamps, all of which were voluntary. But that doesn't mean McGahee hasn't been training.

Five join Fletcher for mom's funeral

Troy Vincent, Takeo Spikes, Jeff Posey, Lee Evans and Joe Burns were excused so they could attend the funeral of London Fletcher's mother. Linda Fletcher, 53, died on June 4. The service was held Monday morning in Cleveland. "Of course, our thoughts are with Fletcher and his family at this time," Bills coach Dick Jauron said. Jauron expects the players to attend today's practice, with the exception of Fletcher. Jauron left the door open for Fletcher to come, though that is unlikely.

Losman bets the house on Bills career

Nowadays, it is rare for America's major pro athletes to actually reside in the cities for which their teams are named. So it was a little surprising to discover that Bills quarterback J.P. Losman had recently bought a house in Buffalo, not far from Women and Children's Hospital.

Cancer patients and friends alike join in honor of one surgeon's dedication

NFL Hall of Fame coach Marv Levy is accustomed to being the center of attention, having taken the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowls. But Monday afternoon Levy was just another face in the crowd - another grateful cancer survivor giving thanks to Robert P. Huben.

Lighter, leaner McGahee shows up for Bills camp

Willis McGahee returned to the Buffalo Bills' training facility at Ralph Wilson Stadium Monday for the first time since late February looking fit and ready to go for the upcoming 2006 NFL season. "I'm lighter and leaner," said a smiling McGahee, who set losing weight and adding muscle as an off-season goal because he admitted he felt "sluggish" at the end of the disappointing 2005 season playing at probably close to 240 pounds.

Bills' Fletcher hit by Rosenhaus virus

Drew Rosenhaus has become the most famous agent in the National Football League because of his ability to deliver the big money to his many famous clients. He represents high-profile players such as Terrell Owens, Edgerrin James and the Buffalo Bills' Willis McGahee.

Whitner, Youboty report to summer school

Donte Whitner and Ashton Youboty weren't the only Ohio State students counting the days until the end of finals. But they could have been the only ones looking forward to summer school. Both were at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Monday for the first of three mandatory minicamp practices.

June 12, 2006

Bills and Northtown Automotive Renew Partnership

The Buffalo Bills announced Monday that the team and the Northtown Automotive Companies have signed a multi-year sponsorship extension in which Northtown will remain the preferred automobile dealer of the Buffalo Bills. In accordance with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Northtown motors on as Bills sponsor

The Buffalo Bills have re-signed Northtown Automotive Companies to a multi-year sponsorship extension, the team announced Monday. Financial terms of the deal were not released.

Handful of Vets Excused for Day One of Minicamp

Lee Evans, London Fletcher, Jeff Posey, Takeo Spikes and Troy Vincent were all excused from the first day of Buffalo's mandatory minicamp Monday for an unfortunate reason. "There were a group of players that were excused to go to the funeral of London Fletcher's mother," said head coach Dick Jauron. "Our thoughts are with Fletcher and his family at this time." Jauron anticipates that all of the veterans will be available for work Tuesday, but will give Fletcher the time he needs to grieve.

McGahee Returns for Bills Mini-Camp

The man everyone was eagerly anticipating was out on the field with his teammates Monday. Willis McGahee made his first appearance in an organized practice setting this offseason and settled right back into his top running back spot on the depth chart. McGahee explained what he's been doing while away from the rest of his teammates. "I've been working out in Miami doing everything down there," said McGahee. "I've been doing a lot of running and lifting weights in the heat."

McGee to Unveil Gameday Collection

Bills cornerback/kick returner Terrence McGee has proved to be one of the most versatile athletes on the field in the National Football League. The NFL leader in kick return average and team co-leader in interceptions in 2005 is now ready to show his versatility off the field. On Thursday, June 15th, McGee will launch a line of posters and tee shirts known as the Gameday Collection.

Bills finally end Anderson era

On Friday, the Buffalo Bills released offensive lineman Bennie Anderson, ending his tenure as the team's starting left guard. Anderson signed with the Bills late in the 2005 offseason and ended up being the biggest disappointment on the team's awful line last year.

Nance hopes to come up big for Bills

ORCHARD PARK With 10 wide receivers vying for what’s likely to be five jobs on the Buffalo Bills, it would seem the odds are against undrafted rookie free agent Martin Nance. But the Miami of Ohio product has one big advantage on his side. Namely, that he’s big.

Tomorrow's stars in Futures tourney

The 2006 Buffalo Bills Futures Men's Singles and Doubles Tennis Tournament will be held at the Village Glen Tennis & Fitness Club, starting with the Wild Card Draw from June 16-18 and concluding with the finals of the main draw July 2.

Losman needs a chance to grow into QB role

A few weeks ago on the NFL Network, Adam Schefter reported that the competition for the Bills' quarterback job was over and that veteran Kelly Holcomb had won it, much to the pleasure of the team's veterans. Not so fast.

Vincent: Decision to stay will be Dawkins'

In the end, Troy Vincent said, the Eagles will try to do right by his best friend. They'll make Brian Dawkins a fair offer to extend his contract, which expires when the 2006 season is over.

McGahee not making friends

Bills running back Willis McGahee is irritating some teammates and management by not participating in voluntary offseason workouts. Buffalo is trying to install a new offense and build camaraderie under new coach Dick Jauron, and McGahee's absence is making it tougher for either to take place.

Bills plotting new defensive scheme?

There’s perception, and then there’s reality regarding the Buffalo Bills defense. After ranking second in the NFL in total yards allowed two years in a row, the Bills perceived themselves to be one of the best defenses of all-time heading into 2005. Linebacker Takeo Spikes even predicted that the unit would play to the level of the legendary ’85 Bears.

Bills Team Report

The team acquired MLB Courtney Watson in a trade with New Orleans because it needed the insurance of a proven veteran behind starter London Fletcher. Fletcher never has missed a game in his eight-year career, but is entering the last year of his contract.

Bills release Anderson

The Buffalo Bills said goodbye to another disappointing offensive lineman Friday as they terminated the contract of guard Bennie Anderson. The Bills signed Anderson to a three-year free agent contract worth $5.1 million last offseason and expected him to help solidify the left side of their offensive line. He started 15 games at left guard, but was inconsistent throughout the season. He struggled to avoid penalties and was unable to provide reliable pass protection.

Undrafted Nance stands tall

Joining a team already well-stocked at your position isn't exactly a great career move. But Martin Nance has something very few of the Buffalo Bills wide receivers have - size.

Bills report: Notes, quotes

The Bills, who wrapped up three weeks of voluntary organized team activities, will conduct a three-day mandatory camp June 12-14. RB Willis McGahee, a key component of Buffalo's offense, skipped all of coach Dick Jauron's OTAs, creating a concern he may hold out for a new contract. It has been learned that Buffalo's chief negotiator, Jim Overdorf, and agent Drew Rosenhaus have had recent discussions but only in general terms about his situation.

Bills report: Strategy and personnel

Buffalo added another name to the mix of players who will vie for the fourth defensive end spot on their roster, signing free agent Joshua Cooper.

Bills report: Inside slant

The Bills have added linebacker Courtney Watson to their training camp roster, yet another case of general manager Marv Levy and coach Dick Jauron hoping to strike it rich on a lost player in need of a road map.

Bills show offensive lineman Anderson the door

The Buffalo Bills released starting left guard Bennie Anderson on Friday. Anderson, who started 15 of 16 games last season, had two years left on his contract.

Bills Release Camp Schedule

Fans of the Buffalo Bills will get several chances this summer to see their team practice at night. For the first time in their seven-year partnership with St. John Fisher College, the Bills will host eight evening practices during their annual training camp.

Bills Camp Schedule Offers Evening Flavor

The signal that another football season is fast approaching came in the form of the team's training camp schedule released Friday by the club. The Bills 2006 Bausch & Lomb training camp will open at St. John Fisher college in Pittsford, New York on July 28.

Buffalo Bills Release Bennie Anderson and 2 Others

On Friday afternoon the Bills announced that they have terminated the contract of offensive lineman Bennie Anderson. Anderson, who started 15 of 16 games for the Bills last season was going to face strong competition from free agent signee Tutan Reyes as well as second-year player Duke Preston. Buffalo also waived linebacker Greg Carothers and undrafted rookie free agent defensive end Matthew Rice. The writing was likely on the wall for both players.

Jags give Williams a second chance

It's amazing how fast a once-rising star can fall. Case in point, offensive lineman Mike Williams. The formerly promising prospect out of the University of Texas was drafted by the Buffalo Bills with the number 4 overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft.

Mason would star in NFL, says coach

The coach of the Australia gridiron team last night endorsed Willie Mason as an NFL star-in-the-making, offering to tutor the NSW enforcer in the finer points of American football.

Bills camp opens July 28; 8 night practices

New Buffalo Bills coach Dick Jauron has figured out an easy way to beat the heat at training camp at St. John Fisher College: The team will hold a record eight night practices this summer.

Watson happy with new home

Middle linebacker Courtney Watson had a big smile on his face as he walked off the field after his first practice with the Buffalo Bills Thursday. He finally found a home.

Big Willie sizes up NFL

Bulldogs front-rower Willie Mason is considering leaving rugby league to try his hand at the National Football League (NFL) in the United States.

This summer will be all or nothing for Bills' Holcomb

With the Buffalo Bills' three-way quarterback competition set to be the team's main storyline over the summer, it's time to ponder which quarterback could end up in a different uniform next season. The trio of Kelly Holcomb, Craig Nall and J.P. Losman are competing for the No. 1 job, but the QB who loses out to the top two will likely be out of luck in Western New York.

Cyber-doubter fuels Spikes’ rehab

A lot of professional athletes claim not to read what’s written about them in newspapers or listen to what is said on sports radio or TV. Takeo Spikes isn’t one of them, thanks to his mom, Lillie. “She’s an Internet freak, man ... she stays on the computer,” Spikes said. ‘She likes to see things written about her son.”

Bills Complete Another Week Of OTA

The Bills still had quite a few no shows on Thursday for OTA. Willis McGahee, London Fletcher, Nate Clements, Troy Vincent, Chris Villarrial, Bennie Anderson and Aaron Schobel were all not there.

Coaches Do What They Know Best, Not What’s Necessarily Best for Their Team: Part II

Dick Jauron played defensive back in the NFL. His coaching has been limited to DBs coach and defensive coordinator prior to a failed stint as head coach in Chicago. Does this factor at all into the team’s philosophy and player moves to date?

OTA Day 11: Watson Gets First Practice In

Buffalo's newest linebacker was on the field taking reps during team work on Thursday. Courtney Watson, as expected, lined up at middle linebacker getting some second team reps. "I always hoped coming out of college that I would get to play in a defense that dealt with zone matchups," said Watson.

Bills report: Inside slant

Another organized team activity and still no Willis McGahee. The Bills completed their second consecutive week of organized training activities at Ralph Wilson Stadium with several veteran no-shows, but McGahee kept his streak alive of being the only player not to have attended at least one off-season practice under the club's new coaching staff.

Bills report: Notes, quotes

The issue of off-season practices remains a hot button with the player's union. Teams would like all sessions mandatory. "I'm not a big advocate of a whole month of voluntary/mandatory camps this time of year, but I do understand the importance of it," said Bills safety Troy Vincent, president of the player's association who was in attendance this week.

Bills report: Strategy and personnel

TE Tim Euhus was acquired by New Orleans from Buffalo in exchange for Courtney Watson, who the Saints previously tried to trade to Miami.

OTA Day 10: Special Teams a Focus Again

Special teams was again an early focus at Wednesday's workout with blocking punts a particular point of emphasis. All the players on the roster with the exception of the quarterbacks, veteran receivers and offensive linemen participated in the four station drills.

Watson an intriguing acquisition for Buffalo

Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills traded reserve tight end Tim Euhus to the New Orleans Saints for linebacker Courtney Watson, who the Saints have been trying to unload for the past couple months. In fact, the Saints attempted to trade Watson to the Miami Dolphins for linebacker Eddie Moore last month, but the deal was nixed when Moore failed his physical.

Coaches Do What They Know Best, Not What’s Necessarily Best for Their Team: Part I

This is the first of a three-part piece with the other two parts to follow later this week and early next week. What decided to make me look at this topic was the very questionable nature and manner that the Bills continue to wreak their mischief on their own team. While it was glaringly obvious with Kevin Gilbride, I hadn’t really given it much thought until recently. But what coaches do is what they do best, what’s in their comfort zone, and that with which they feel the best qualified to comment on and handle.

Bills trade Euhus for Saints' Watson

The Buffalo Bills have reached an agreement to trade backup tight end Tim Euhus to the New Orleans Saints for backup linebacker Courtney Watson, the Saints announced Tuesday. Watson, 6-foot-1 and 245 pounds, was a second-round pick of the Saints out of Notre Dame in 2004.

Saints shuffle Watson off to Buffalo

The Saints finally found a taker for linebacker Courtney Watson on Tuesday, sending the former second-round pick of the 2004 draft to Buffalo in exchange for third-year tight end Tim Euhus. The deal is pending approval by the NFL.

New Texan Moulds is teaching Johnson a few tricks

When it was Eric Moulds' turn to run a route with the offense in practice last week, he nudged Andre Johnson. "Hey man, watch me and let me know if I'm doing anything wrong," Moulds said.

Q & A with Bills Pro Bowler Terrence McGee

When the Buffalo Bills chose cornerback Terrence McGee out of tiny Northwestern State in the 2003 draft, the team's fans were hoping the 5-9 upstart could become a serviceable player. Luckily for the Bills and their loyalists, McGee has become one of the biggest steals of that draft class. The fourth-rounder is now a full-time starter as a cornerback, while showing the potential every week to single-handedly change games on kick returns.

June 06, 2006

Bills sign former Ole Miss defensive end

The Bills signed free agent defensive end Joshua Cooper of Mississippi on Tuesday. Cooper will use Buffalo's NFL Europe exemption which was formerly placed on quarterback Tory Woodbury. Woodbury is currently on NFL Europe's injured reserve list.

Saints acquire Bills TE Euhus in trade

The New Orleans Saints have obtained TE Tim Euhus by trading LB Courtney Watson, the club announced today. Euhus, entering his third season after being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft, has started nine of 23 games in his career. The trade is pending league approval and is not yet final.

Bills Sign DE Cooper to Begin Another Week of OTAs

A day after signing free agent quarterback Kliff Kingsbury to the roster, Buffalo added a defensive lineman as well. Free agent defensive end Joshua Cooper was added to the roster Tuesday. Playing for the World Bowl champion Frankfurt Galaxy this past spring in NFL Europe as a starting defensive end, Cooper compiled 26 tackles, two sacks, a pass breakup and a forced fumble.

Tourney a boon to charities

Jim Kelly has been retired for a decade, and his golf tournament now is 20 years old, but his annual fund-raiser was going as strong as ever Monday at Batavia's Terry Hills Golf Course. Kelly welcomed more than 50 celebrities - mostly football players - to take part in what has become a jam-packed weekend of events.

Thurman has an opinionated day

It has been seven years since Thurman Thomas wore a Bills uniform, but he still bleeds Buffalo blue. Thomas seemed to be in touch with many Western New York sports fans when he expressed some of the feelings they have about their teams.

McGahee needs to show up soon, says ex-Bills star Thomas

Thurman Thomas knows what it's like to be regarded as the best running back in the NFL. The former Buffalo Bill led the league in yards from scrimmage a record four consecutive seasons from 1989-92.

Bills Claim QB Kingsbury Off Waivers

The Buffalo Bill have added a fourth quarterback to the roster, Kliff Kingsbury. The Bills claimed the 26-year-old Kingsbury off waivers from the New York Jets.

Film on Briscoe is Announced

A feature film on UNO graduate Marlin Briscoe, the first black starting quarterback in the NFL, is in the works. The films' production company, West Omaha Films, headed by noted actor John Beasley, Terry Hanna and David B. Clark, made the announcement Monday.

Undrafteds in Depth: Rice Has Twice the Talent

For Bills rookie free agent Matthew Rice there is more to life than football, but that's not going to alter his determined approach to earn a roster spot with Buffalo come September. Buried on the depth chart, Rice knows he's no longer the big man on campus that he was at Penn State.

Levy has a 'Nac' for marketing

Marv Levy has a singular focus - football. Well ... most of the time. The Buffalo Bills, which recently renewed a sponsorship deal with Northtown Automotive Cos., are using the legendary coach-turned-general manager as a marketing tool. That's why late last month, Levy was the focal point of a television commercial shoot inside the home locker room at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Posey v. Crowell is a worthwhile battle in Buffalo

So far this offseason, the position battle that has been the main focus of many involved with the Buffalo Bills has regarded the quarterbacks. Kelly Holcomb, J.P. Losman and Craig Nall have been duking it out this spring trying to gain the upper-hand on the job. Although that three-way competition receives all the attention, another battle is brewing, and it's happening on the defensive side of the ball.

Gray puts ego on hold

Jerry Gray knows what many are thinking -- that going from a defensive coordinator to his new job as the Washington Redskins' cornerbacks coach represents a step back. He doesn't disagree.

Experience best teacher for new coach Jauron

The Buffalo Bills haven't gotten to training camp or played a game yet. But one of the team's veteran leaders likes what he sees from new coach Dick Jauron. "I've got a coach who is a scholar who says, "You know what? This is not rocket science. I'm not in the lab trying to invent a new potion,' " free safety Troy Vincent said. " "This is who we are and this is what we're going to do. Everyone just take care of their own assignment. We're going to run hard. We're going to maintain our lanes.' That's experience. That's wisdom talking."

Ex-NFL linebacker hits the lanes

After a 10-year career in the National Football League, Mark Maddox of Scottsdale, Ariz., became a rookie again. Maddox made his debut in the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships on May 26 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

QBs with local ties aiming to fit the Bills

The Buffalo Bills' quarterback battle has a distinct Louisiana flavor. Former Tulane star J.P. Losman and Alexandria native Craig Nall are in a three-way race with veteran Kelly Holcomb for the team's starting job.

June 03, 2006

A Call To Arms

The Bills made a curious move in picking up Kliff Kingsbury on waivers from the Jets. They have Craig Nall, J.P. Losman and Kelly Holcomb in the only three-way competition in the league this summer.

Buffalo Bills OTA week in review

lb23767_2.jpgThe Buffalo Bills continue to conduct voluntary organized team activities at their indoor practice facility at One Bills Drive in Orchard Park, NY. While big name stars like CB Nate Clements, LB London Fletcher, RT Jason Peters, and RB Willis McGahee (amongst others) have not been in attendance, spirited battles for roster spots and starting jobs continue.

.

Defensive Line

tripplett2141_1.jpgThe biggest news was the elevation of DE Ryan Denny to the top unit with Chris Kelsay being moved to the RDE behind Aaron Schobel. The move is far from permanent; the coaching staff may be seeing what Denny can contribute in a defense that relies heavily in rotating a lot of fresh players. Newly acquired DE Mark Word has been schooling rookie LT Terrance Pennington.

On the interior line, third year player Tim Anderson 's strong play has solidified him as the starting nose tackle next to Larry Tripplett heading into camp. With the cover two defense, the Bills will be rotating in many of their interior linemen and the OTAs have seen plenty of action from First round selection John McCargo and 5th round pick Kevin Williams. McCargo is getting a lot of action spelling Anderson in obvious passing situations. One issue the Bills front four need to address is the tendancy of ther the defensive linemen to jump offsides. Bills QBs changed up their cadence in the snap count. Tim Anderson was the most frequent offender.

Defense Backs

Troy Vincent missed most of the OTAs due to his ongoing rehab from minor offseason shoulder surgery. He was able to return a few days ago. Ohio State draftees Aston Youboty and Donte Whitner missed some time as they were finishing up final exams at OSU. Fourth round selection Ko Simpson saw plenty of action with the first and second units Nate Clements has chosen not to attend.. With Nate Clements not in attendance the two "starters" have been Terrence McGee and Eric King. Jabari Greer appears to be the fourth corner right now. McGee continues to impress with his growth at the CB position, and is still showing the form of a Pro-Bowl kick return specialist. Rob Lee joined the Bills after his NFL Europe World Bowl appearance but was held off the field by the coaching staff.

The Bills recently signed free agent CB Lashaun Ward. He saw time with the third unit. Cornerback James Bethea also made some nice plays breaking up passes, one leading to a tipped interception.

Linebackers

Takeo Spikes kept mostly to agility drills and stayed off the field as he recovers from his injury. London Fletcher is not participatng and Angelo Crowell took a day off. The backup linebackers are getting more reps. Liam Ezekiel, Mario Haggan and Josh Stamer all got some first team work together.

Offensive Line-

offline_1_1.jpgThe most contested spot on the team seems to be incumbent Bennie Anderson hanging on to his starting leftt guard spot by a thread. The Bills signed guard Tuten Reyes and he has been pushing Anderson hard. Anderson has also been working the special teams unit. It didn't help Anderson when he took a day off for a prior commitment when he's in a dogfight to keep his job.

Not in camp was RT Jason Peters. Aaron Gibson has assumed the top right tackle spot, while Matt Morgan has flipped over to the right side to fill the void left by Gibson on the second unit. Dylan McFarland was present but did not participate as he nurses some minor injuries suffered after a successful NFL Europe season. While playing OT both last year in Buffalo and this year in NFLE, the Bills are moving him inside to guard to bolster depth.

Justin Geisinger played both center and left guard with only a couple of other guards in attendance during the week. Chris Villareal was not nin attendance. Geisinger got the call to move to guard instead of 7th round pick Aaron Merz who has plenty of experience at the position from college. As a result Merz got all of the second team reps at center with Geisinger next to him at guard. Only Tutan Reyes, Duke Preston and Jason Thomas were in attendance among the guards, so Geisinger became the fourth. Aaron Mertz was getting a ton of work at Center. For his immense size (he's 340 lbs.) he will be a lot bigger than most NFL centers and can anchor against the largest DT's in the league. He is still listed behind starter Melvin Fowler and Duke Preston, but he is greatly increasing his value to the team with his versatility. LT Terrance Pennington is struggling against NFL competition. He was beat a lot in pass protection as he was a step slow on a number of snaps.

Backs/Receivers

The biggest news surrounding the OTA's this past week was the noticeable absence of star RB Willis McGahee. Spending the week on the NFL Network instead of at one Bills Drive has irritated many fans, but at least outwardly, has not bothered the Bills coaching staff. The backup battle for the RB spot will be hotly contested. His absence has helped the Buffalo Bills evaluate his understudy with more competition and reps. Shaud Williams and recently acquired veteran journeyman Anthony Thomas are the front runners. Lionel Gates has also seen additional time. Joe Burns is getting a lot more reps at halfback than fullback at camp these days. RB Fred Jackson is also being mulled over as the potential #2 RB due to his strong showing in NFL Europe. He is not participating on the field for these OTAs but was present.

Tight End is a huge question mark. Robert Royal appears to be the #1 guy, with often injured Kevin Everett making a strong bid. Brad Cieslak has turned some heads with solid blocking and ST play. Right now He's been working a lot with the second unit. All three have made some highlight reel grabs in practice. The receiving corps is deep, but outside of the possibility of Lee Evans, this team is lacking the true #1 WR threat. Offensive Coordinator Steve Fairchild's offense is WR friendly, with the workload being spread around to multiple WRs.

Roscoe Parrish missed some of the early OTA work, but has come in looking sharper and more refined at the position. Long shot George Wilson made a number of great grabs during the week, and Josh Reed is pickig up a lot of work in the slot. Undrafted free agent Martin Nance is making solid impressions with some nice grabs.

QB Battle

qbbattle61547_1.jpgAll eyes remain on the open battle between Holcomb, Losman, and Nall. Early indications have Holcomb as the starting QB headed into minicamp next month, and it's his job to lose. Losman has had an up and down week, but put in a very good effort on one of the practice days. Fairchild likes how Losman is reading and reacting to defenses, and sees noticeable improvement in his decision making on the field. Craig Nall struggled a bit and has to overcome some tough performances.

Craig Ochs was not participating as he suffered a shoulder injury late in the NFLE season. He is hoping to be ready to go by the time Bills training camp opens in July.

The Bills will continue with voluntary OTAs the week of June 6th and will hold a mandatory minicamp starting June 16th.

Another OTA Week Wraps Up

It was another productive week at One Bills Drive as the players and coaches focused more on short yardage, red zone and goal line work this week. The offense had its share of success in the red zone Friday. During 7-on-7 the offense posted three touchdowns in the passing game.

Bills assistant to speak at clinic

Paul Keizer Signs With Buffalo

South Dakota State University's Paul Keizer (KI zer) has been invited to a free agent tryout with the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League.

Don't Be Surprised if the Tamps 2 Flops in Orchard Park

Buffalo Bills head coach Dick Jauron brings the vaunted "Tampa 2" defense to Western New York this season. Depending on small, speedy defenders, this defense is the current craze throughout the National Football League. Like all fads, however, given time NFL offenses will tap into its weaknesses. That’s why it’s a real good idea to be an innovator rather than a simulator.

OTA Day 7: Kickoff Return and Short Yardage

Things were changed up a bit at Thursday's workout for the Bills. There was an extended special teams session early in which kickoff return was the main focus. And in 11-on-11 team work there was a period of short yardage work.

Bills' Everett ready to challenge at TE

Without ever having taken a snap as a member of the Buffalo Bills, Kevin Everett moved up the depth chart this spring.

Banes of Buffalo

The litany of less-than-great moments in Buffalo sports history isn't known by season or circumstance but by the villain involved. Scott Norwood's name is spoken only in hushed tones and never in good company. Brett Hull, on the other hand, is a two-word obscenity, often accompanied by spiteful expectoration.

GIANT COMEBACK

Two years out of football is not forever, but it was long enough for Rob Johnson to consider that his career might be finished. So, Johnson enrolled in a junior college back home in southern California and aced a Spanish class, allowing him to complete a degree in history on his way to gaining a teaching certificate.

Bills count on Reyes to reign

Being named after an ancient Egyptian pharaoh is a lot to live up to, but Tutankhamen Marques Reyes is more focused on ruling over opposing defensive linemen. The Buffalo Bills are counting on him doing just that.

Thomas has a chance at redemption in Buffalo

Since bursting onto the NFL scene as a rookie running back for the Chicago Bears in 2001, Anthony Thomas has had a mostly frustrating time trying to stay relevant in the pros. He spent four seasons with the Bears and last year with the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints , where he failed miserably. Luckily for Thomas, the Buffalo Bills signed him to a one-year contract in April, and he may be the frontrunner to be the team's backup ball-carrier.
