Jauron: Let’s make like Marv
Let’s hope that Bills coach Dick Jauron can match the success of the man who hired him.
Marv Levy distinguished himself by leading the team to four consecutive AFC championships.
Last looks for Bills tonight
Linebacker, receiver and safety are positions where veteran Buffalo Bills are in jeopardy of losing their jobs entering the team's final preseason game. The battle for the final dozen places on the 53-man roster will be the primary purpose of tonight's game between the Bills and the Detroit Lions.
Bills take final look at players vying for positions
While many key decisions have been made by the Buffalo Bills since training camp began 34 days ago, many important ones still remain for a team attempting to end a six-year playoff drought and is rebuilding under a new leadership regime.
Keep an eye on Nall, two others for Buffalo tonight
In the Bills' matchup with the Lions, it's doubtful the starters on either side of the ball will see much playing time, meaning the reserves will come to the foreground. With head coach Dick Jauron still needing to cut 22 more players to get to the required 53-man roster limit, this game will be important for the first-year Bills leader.
A turn to the ageless: Levy's back with Bills
Shortly before the start of practice, Marv Levy was distracted long enough for Bills officials to sneak a card table-sized birthday cake to midfield behind the general manager's back.
NFL Preseason Preview - Buffalo (0-3) At Detroit (1-2)
Dick Jauron will make his return to the Motor City on Thursday night, when the Buffalo Bills first-year head coach leads his team into battle against the Detroit Lions in the final preseason tune-up for each team.
Bills cut Kingsbury
The Buffalo Bills announced they have released quarterback Kliff Kingsbury, formerly of New Braunfels and Texas Tech.
Kitna to sit tonight vs. Bills
Jon Kitna can get an early start on what really matters to the Lions. There is a little matter tonight of closing the exhibition season against Buffalo at Ford Field. But even before he was told that he won't play tonight as a precaution against possible injury, Kitna knew his thoughts would be on the Seattle Seahawks immediately after the game.

Bills' Nall to get most QB time vs. Lions
Coach Dick Jauron has indicated that Holcomb, who wound up losing the starting job to J.P. Losman after opening training camp No. 1 on the depth chart, may not even play against the Detroit Lions on Thursday night at Ford Field, the Bills’ final preseason game.
Final Audition for Players to Prove Themselves
The final preseason game in Detroit Thursday night will be the last great opportunity for some players on Buffalo's roster to make a case for themselves that they should be a part of the 2006 roster.
Jauron makes it official: Losman gets starting nod
J.P. Losman was officially named the Buffalo Bills' starting quarterback Tuesday in a move that was reduced to a formality after the former first-round pick clearly emerged from a three-way battle this summer for the No. 1 job.
Wilson gives his all for Bills roster spot
George Wilson is making an impression.
No matter what happens, George Wilson can sleep peacefully knowing he's given the Buffalo Bills everything he has and more. Nobody gave the receiver much chance last season when he showed up along One Bills Drive and beat the odds as a free agent. He was a long shot again this year.
And he's still here.
Bills to rest starters
Do not expect linebacker Takeo Spikes or newly named starting quarterback J.P. Losman to play starring roles in the Buffalo Bills' pre-season finale against the Lions tomorrow night in Detroit.
Jauron names Losman starter
So after practice on Tuesday, coach Dick Jauron ended what had to be among the most accurate speculation by fans and media in team history, naming J.P. Losman his starting quarterback for the 2006 season.
Jauron’s demeanor suits Bills just fine
The more I see and hear of Buffalo Bills head coach Dick Jauron, the more I believe he is the very antithesis of former field boss Mike Mularkey.
Bills' Denney turning the corner at left end
After four somewhat silent regular seasons with the Buffalo Bills , it appears defensive end Ryan Denney is finally becoming the up-front threat the team thought it was getting back in 2002, when it drafted him in the second round.

Losman Wins Back His Job
Invited to earn the position this year, Losman is getting a second chance. The 25 year old third-year quarterback was officially named the starter by coach Dick Jauron.
Losman officially named starter
Losman didn’t show much excitement over the news, likely because it has been obvious for weeks. Great news for Losman, who had his confidence deflated last year after being named the starter without competition, then having the job taken away. He has finally earned his first NFL position.
Losman wins battle for QB
The Buffalo Bills three way battle for the starting QB position has apparently ended. Bills head coach Dick Jauron ended speculation by anointing JP Losman the winner- he will be the team’s starting QB under center when the Bills open in Foxboro, MA vs. the New England Patriots.
Losman named Bills starter
Coach Dick Jauron made the announcement after practice, saying Losman clearly had performed best during training camp to earn the No. 1 job in a three-way competition that included veteran Kelly Holcomb and free-agent addition Craig Nall.
AFC East Preview: Buffalo Bills
As bad as the New York Jets QB situation is, the Bills situation isn’t much better. In fact, it might even be worse. QB J.P. Losman got a shot to be the starting QB last season and there was much hope that he’d pull through, but he didn’t. He would split starts with QB Kelly Holcomb, who wasn’t much better. This is a position in disarray and with a bad offensive line, the situation could get worse.
Whitner maintains focus on the game
Given what rookie Donte Whitner has experienced in the last few weeks, you'd think his head would be spinning faster than a golf ball struck by Tiger Woods' pitching wedge.
Veteran lineman Gibson among cuts
Aaron Gibson's quest to revive his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills has ended.
The 6-foot-6, 375-pound offensive lineman, a former first-round pick of the Detroit Lions who was out of the league last season, was among nine players released on Monday as the Bills got a jump on meeting Tuesday's deadline for trimming rosters to 75.
Rocca set to farewell AFL
Kangaroos forward Saverio Rocca is set to end his AFL career against Collingwood at the MCG on Sunday after securing a punting trial with NFL club Buffalo Bills in the United States.
Kingsbury waived by Buffalo
Former New Braunfels quarterback Kliff Kingsbury was one of nine players cut by the Buffalo Bills on Monday.
Losman's rise begins with newfound accuracy, poise
The 25-year-old is beginning to come into his own as a mature, athletic and strong-armed gunslinger. Not a bad combination of things to have, right? Although it's only been three preseason games, the former first-round pick out of Tulane seemingly improves with each showdown. The Bills may be 0-3, but it's hardly Losman's fault.

Bright Spots Outnumber Blunders As Buffalo Gets Fans Home On Time
Jeff Chandler's 35-yard field goal passed through the uprights as the final seconds of the fourth quarter of Saturday's exhibition game between Buffalo and Cleveland expired, breaking a 17-17 tie and sending what was left of a sell-out Kids' Day crowd home happy, or at least relieved.
"Season of Hope" Continues to have Shaky Foundation
One bright spot regarding this third preseason game vs. the Cleveland Browns was that the Bills played the Browns competitively. The flip side is that means that the Browns played the Bills competitively. Ergo, consider the opponent.
Practice Notes: Losman Remains Frontrunner
Some of the rep rotation was interesting today. During 7-on-7 in particular J.P. Losman, as has been the case, takes most of the reps, but Craig Nall and Kelly Holcomb would each rotate in for a single rep and then come back out.
Buffalo Trim Roster To 75
Among those that were cut include defensive end Josh Cooper, defensive backs James Bethea and Rob Lee, quarterback Kliff Kingsbury, offensive lineman Aaron Gibson, kicker Nick Setta, and wide receivers Chris Denney and Martin Nance. Offensive lineman Dylan McFarland was placed on the waived-injured list.
Bills Make Cuts a Day Early; Roster at 75
The Buffalo Bills made the required nine cuts they needed to a day before the league deadline of 4pm Tuesday. The coaching staff released cornerback James Bethea, defensive end Josh Cooper, wide receiver Chris Denney, offensive lineman Aaron Gibson, quarterback Kliff Kingsbury, safety Rob Lee, wide receiver Martin Nance and kicker Nick Setta. Offensive lineman Dylan McFarland was waived-injured.
School is open for Simpson
The week after the draft, Simpson got a call from Bills veteran Troy Vincent welcoming him to the team, and the advice has continued to flow regularly from the team's starting safety to its most promising reserve. "Troy is a great person to have on your team," Simpson said after the Bills' preseason loss to Cleveland on Saturday. "It's not like when you have two guys playing the same position and he isn't going to tell you anything. He'll try to help you 100 percent. Every little thing he knows he tries to tell me to make me better. I try to take it all in."
Nall's showing helps his chances for No. 2 job
Craig Nall probably helped his chances to claim the No. 2 quarterback spot on the Buffalo Bills in Saturday night's loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Nall took the Bills' backups on two long marches in three possessions in the 20-17 loss. The first long drive went 59 yards and ended in an interception in the end zone. The second went 79 yards and ended with a touchdown on a 3-yard run by Lionel Gates. For the most part, Nall got the ball out of his hands on time. He hit 8 of 14 passes for 126 yards. Another decent outing in the preseason finale may give Nall the No. 2 spot over Kelly Holcomb.
Bills' new offensive line coming along, getting along
"I feel good about that first group," Jauron said of left tackle Mike Gandy, left guard Tutan Reyes, center Melvin Fowler, right guard Chris Villarrial and right tackle Jason Peters.
So does Losman.
No false hopes for playoffs, but Bills are better
One plus in the 0-3 preseason start by the 2006 Buffalo Bills is that fewer fans figure to have unrealistic expectations. There is at least one surprise team every NFL season, but Buffalo isn't likely to fill the bill this year.
The good, bad and ugly from the Bills' third loss
On Saturday, the Buffalo Bills turned in what was probably their best preseason performance of 2006, even though they lost to the Cleveland Browns by a final score of 20-17.

Bills: Talented pieces, unproven whole
It might be a young person's world, but don't tell that to octogenarian Bills owner Ralph Wilson and his GM Marv Levy, another 80-something. While neither is as old as the Titanic, they are in charge of a football team that plucked its newest coach, Dick Jauron, from the retread heap.
Bills Team Report
REASONS FOR OPTIMISM: Coaches plan to use RB Willis McGahee more as a receiver and take advantage of his speed by running more sweeps and off-tackle plays.
Bills' Spikes relieved after return to field
Buffalo Bills linebacker Takeo Spikes has a message for anyone who may have doubted his determination.
"I'm back," Spikes said Saturday after Buffalo's 20-17 preseason loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Pittsford faithful rally around the Bills
The camp is in its seventh season at Fisher, having come here after many years at State University College of New York at Fredonia. The Bills have a contract with Fisher through 2009.
Bills' roster has a Cleveland flavor
Cleveland natives Donte Whitner, Lee Evans, London Fletcher-Baker and Nate Clements all made big plays against their hometown team.
'Coachball' stunts the growth of quarterbacks
"Coachball" isn't just rampant in the pros; these days it's a rare quarterback who enters the NFL from college brimming with genuine confidence. They aren't entrusted with the sort of responsibility the Elways, Marinos and Kellys were given in their college days.
Losman is No. 1, and his coach should say so
It's not J.P. Losman's job to lose anymore. It's strictly Losman's job. He's the opening-day starter, the quarterback the Buffalo Bills are obligated to leave at the top of the depth chart. He's done enough this preseason to warrant the distinction, and it's time the coaching staff dispensed with dramatics, showed some conviction and announced the deal's done.
Spikes, fans happy with brief return
He barked at the opposing offense. He roughed up teammates while congratulating them on a good play. He also made a couple of plays.
Yes, folks, Takeo Spikes is back.
Peerless cheered up in a big way after big touchdown play
If wide receiver Peerless Price was unhappy about his lack of involvement in the Buffalo Bills' first two preseason games, as some had suggested, he isn't any more.
Losman shows plus-signs in loss
Overall, the Bills turned in a passable performance against an opponent that - like themselves - is not expected to be good this year. The Bills starters outscored Cleveland's starters, 10-7, through two and a half quarters.
Spikes' jubilant return provides bright spot for inconsistent Bills
Takeo Spikes' return to the Buffalo Bills lineup after recovering from Achilles' tendon surgery was every bit the emotional scene it was predicted to be.
Given the OK to play — by himself, really — just before Saturday's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns at Ralph Wilson Stadium, the Bills' Pro Bowl linebacker and team heartbeat hit the field running.
Miscues keep Bills winless in preseason
The one thing Dick Jauron hoped to see during Saturday night's game against Cleveland was a reduction in the mistakes that plagued his Buffalo Bills in their first two preseason tests.
Takeo Spikes - Buffalo vs. Cleveland Quotes
On how it felt for his play to be the 1st play of the game
“As a defensive player, not taken into account being hurt, you always want to get started early. When you get that first pop out of the way, get in on a tackle, then it’s like ‘I’m ready, I’m ready to go.’ So that’s how I felt.”
Head Coach Dick Jauron - Buffalo vs. Cleveland Quotes
General Comments
“We did some good things, we did a lot of bad things. The penalties were obviously a huge issue. You can’t do that and win consistently so we need to get a lot better in that area.”
Willis McGahee - Buffalo vs. Cleveland Quotes
On JP Losman’s play
JP (Losman) played pretty good. He made some decisions. He looks good to me, that’s all I can say. There’s no question in my mind that he’s going to be leading the first team. He’s way better than he was last year.
Sam Aiken - Buffalo vs. Cleveland Quotes
On being pleased with the chances he has gotten thus far
Definitely, I’m taking that opportunity every chance I get.
JP Losman - Buffalo vs. Cleveland Quotes
On how he feels about his touchdown pass to Peerless Price and his duck after the play
“I was just out there making a play. I had to step up a little bit, maybe stepped up a little bit too much. Peerless has been winning his 1-on-1 match-ups quite a bit and I’m so happy we finally got to hook up on one of those and give him the balls because he has been winning quite often at his position. "
Lee Evans - Buffalo vs. Cleveland Quotes
On whether there is any question in his mind that J.P. Losman has secured the starting QB job for the regular season.
No, I pretty much think it’s set in stone now. So we can just move forward.
George Wilson - Buffalo vs. Cleveland Quotes
On his play tonight
Hopefully (it was) big enough. I just have to do my part, I can’t worry about what everyone else is doing.
Spikes Begins Comeback
The first play of the game didn't inspire any big cheers from the crowd. It was a two-yard run by Cleveland's Reuben Droughns. But when Bills fans saw the Buffalo player that made the tackle pop up to his feet pump his fist and then appeal to the crowd to get excited, they immediately recognized that Takeo Spikes was back. Suddenly there was an appreciative applause.
Spikes back in action
Playing his first game since rupturing his right Achilles’ tendon in Week 3 of last season, Spikes stopped Cleveland running back Reuben Droughns after a 2-yard gain on the Browns’ first play from scrimmage.

Bills Fourth DE Role Still Up For Grabs
As the Bills enter their third preseason game the fourth defensive end role is still available for the taking. Bills head coach Dick Jauron isn't surprised that none of the four candidates has clearly separated himself from the others because they're all young players.
Third jersey takes its turn in spotlight
Tonight's preseason game will be the first of three appearances this year by the Bills in their throwback jerseys.
The Bills will sport their 1960s-era royal blue jerseys in their regular-season opener against the New York Jets on Sept. 24. They will wear them again at home against the San Diego Chargers on Dec. 3, according to the NFL.

Jauron happy with first camp
All things considered, Dick Jauron was satisfied with his first training camp as coach of the Buffalo Bills.

Don't 'count the days'
After 14 seasons in the National Football League, Troy Vincent has figured out a system to get through the grind known as training camp each summer.
Head Coach Dick Jauron Quotes
On the Cleveland game being their biggest test for the starters
I think so, we’ll see it more, and they’ll be out there more in most cases against Cleveland’s first team, it’s just the way games go.
Takeo Spikes Quotes
On his status for Saturday’s game
It’s waiting to be decided. It just depends on how I feel. I talked to Coach Perry after practice and they said no decision.
The billboard
The Bills wrapped up their seventh training camp at St. John Fisher College after a 90-minute, no-pads workout on Thursday. Coach Dick Jauron praised school officials for helping the four-week camp run smoothly.
Taking stock of the Bills
After a month of practices and two preseason losses, the Buffalo Bills broke training camp Thursday at St. John Fisher College with as many questions as answers.
As Camp Draws to a Close, What Have We Learned?
The final day of training camp was yesterday. The Bills have Saturday’s game at home vs. Cleveland followed by a Thursday game on the road vs. Detroit, and cuts to 75 on Tuesday followed by cuts to 53 only five days later. They then have less than a week to prepare for their regular season opener at Foxboro.
Time at Fisher can't provide all the answers

"I'm very pleased," Levy said. "Dick was tremendously well organized, focused, a superb teacher."

The Buffalo Bills' Takeo Spikes has no doubt he can regain the form that made him one of the game's premier outside linebackers before he tore his right Achilles' tendon in the third game of last season.
Whitner's camp has been topsy-turvy
Most training camps have their share of ups and downs for rookies, but those peaks and valleys have been extreme in Donte Whitner’s case.
Bills Break Camp

What did we learn at summer camp?
So what do we know about these Bills that we did not know a month ago? Not much. Even Dick Jauron admitted on Thursday that his team has a lot of question marks.
QB, receivers worth watching for Buffalo tomorrow
Behind No. 1 stalemate Lee Evans is a group of players vying not only to be the other starter, but make the roster, too. Jauron has to decide on his first official roster cuts by this coming Tuesday, which makes tomorrow a crucial contest for a few different wideouts. Peerless Price, Andre' Davis, Sam Aiken, Josh Reed and Roscoe Parrish are currently competing for the No. 2 job.

Camp Closure
QB- JP Losman has the most talent on the Bills roster, the team invested first round picks in him; he has to play. Blame Mike Mularkey and his handling of JP last year, not allowing an informative decision to be made on his future status as the team’s “QB of the future”.
Donte Whitner After Practice Quotes
On playing the Browns this weekend.
It’s a great feeling, growing up in Cleveland watching the browns growing up. Actually my DB coach at Ohio State is now coaching there, and I have talked to him.
Troy Vincent After Practice Quotes
On this being a player friendly camp
I don’t think any camp is player friendly. You’re out here, getting after it, and they’re (the coaches) taking up most of your time during the day. There’s not much free time. The free time you have you’re napping. I don’t think it was a player friendly camp by any stretch of the imagination.
Craig Nall After Practice Quotes
On looking forward to the game on Saturday
I’m excited, we had a good week of practice. We’ll finish off tomorrow, and go out there Saturday and just let it all hang out. We’ll have fun and things will fall together for me.
Chris Villarrial After Practice

Like when Edwards pesters medical personnel to let him do more in practice as he comes back from offseason knee surgery. Crennel realizes that Edwards’ desire to be on the field as soon as possible might lead to a rush decision to put him in a game.
Bengals 44, Bills 31
Game Center | Play by Play | Drive Charts | Team Stats | Photos
The Buffalo Bills committed four first-half turnovers with quarterback J.P. Losman responsible for three, and the giveaways led directly to 20 Cincinnati points. Willis McGahee's opening drive fumble was returned 72 yards for a touchdown by Dexter Jackson, and a Losman interception was returned 26 yards for a TD by Keiwan Ratliff. Losman later lost a pair of fumbles that led to two Shayne Graham field goals in the final two minutes of the first half that extended Cincinnati's halftime lead to 27-17.
It's not that the Bills offense was inept. Buffalo chewed up 197 of its 366 yards on five plays. But the timing of the Bills turnovers was devistating. The Bengals scored two defensive touchdowns and then sacked and stripped quarterback J.P. Losman twice in the final 2:07 of the first half to stun the Bills first-team offense for 20 points.
For most of the first half, the Bills were matching the Bengals with big plays of their own. McGahee's 61-yard touchdown run in the first quarter tied the game at 7-7. The play came just minutes after a McGahees fumble. Buffalo took a 10-7 lead on the second play of a wild second quarter when Rian Lindell kicked a 51-yard field goal.
Bengals wasted no time in answering back. The Bengals' offensive regulars, who played without quarterback Carson Palmer and starting tackles Levi Jones and Willie Anderson, did have one impressive drive. Quarterback Anthony Wright capped a 12-play, 61-yard march by firing a 9-yard strike to wide receiver Chad Johnson. On the second play of the Bills' ensuing drive, Losman telegraphed a pass to his right and threw it right into the arms of Cincinnati's Keiwan Ratliff, who waltzed in for a 26-yard TD.
Just as McGahee quicky attoned for his miscue, Losman did the same. On his first play after the pick, Losman hit Lee Evans over the middle for 22 yards. Two plays later, he threw a perfect bomb to Evans for a 46-yard TD, bringing the Bills closer, 21-17.
After the Bills forced the Bengals 3-and-out, the Bills offense again self destructed. Losman fumbled the ball away twice on sacks on back to back drives with less than 4 minutes left in the half, leading to two Shayne Graham field goals and a 27-17 halftime deficit. That would be all for Losman, who completed 7 of 11 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Lee Evans finished with three grabs for 117 yards and a score in an impressive debut as the Bills undisputed #1 WR, replacing the departed Eric Moulds. McGahee finished Friday's game with an impressive nine carries for 88 yards, leaving the game midway through the first quarter due to a minor stomach illness.
The Bengals broke the game open in the third quarter. Third string QB Doug Johnson led a trio of scoring drives against the Bills second defense that looked a far cry from the unit that impressed the previous week on the road against the Carolina Panthers. The score mushroomed to 44-17 as Johnson threw a 3-yard TD pass to Chris Manderino and ran for a 4-yard score, while Graham kicked his third field goal.
Craig Nall made his quarterbacking debut for Buffalo in the fourth quarter and, following a Cincinnati turnover, he threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to fullback Alan Ricard, then directed a late 73-yard drive that ended with Fred Jackson's 4-yard TD run on 4th and goal in the final minute.
Game Notes and Quotes-
- Rian Lindell again impressed with a 51 yard FG. He's 3-3 with two 50+ yard FGs in the preseason, and the third clocked in at "mere" 45 yards.
- Willis McGahee was removed midway through the first quarter after a minor stomach bug. He reportedly did not eat very well and had difficulty hydrating. He was removed as a precautionary measure.
- "It was very disappointing; you can see what happens when you turn the ball over," said coach Dick Jauron. "You can't win a lot of games doing that. Thankfully it's the preseason."
-"I really like the way they are blocking up front. We looked real good. It's just taking care of the little things now." Willis McGahee.
"We have the potential to do a lot of good things, the main goal right now is consistency, consistency, consistency. At times we did good things in the first half and at times we didn't. It's already hard enough to win in this league. Then you beat yourself, it puts more pressure on you." - Bills WR Lee Evans

Peerless Price’s week didn’t get much better Wednesday night.
After missing Sunday’s workout because he misread the team’s schedule, the Buffalo Bills wide receiver again missed a training camp session, this time because of injury.
Gaining back mentality is key for Spikes
After ruling himself out of the exhibition season, it seems Spikes is now flip-flopping on his decision. According to head coach Dick Jauron, there's a chance the eight-year veteran could actually play for the team this Saturday against the Cleveland Browns .

JP Losman Night Practice Quotes
On proving himself against the Browns
I said I’ll prove it again this week. If I was the coach I’d make the players do the same thing. You have to go out there and earn it and solidify it. There should be no question who you’re going to name as your starting quarterback. You have to play focused and be sharp and put things together.
Head Coach Dick Jauron After Practice Quotes
On the signing of Joe Odom:
Well, Joe’s a guy that we drafted (in Chicago) and we like his athletic ability, his toughness, he’s got good speed and he’s a fit for us defensively. He doesn’t have a lot of learning to do coming in here, so he could play almost immediately. It seemed like a real good opportunity for us and we took it.
Odom Practices; Whitner Back
The newest player on the Bills roster got his first practice in Wednesday night. Linebacker Joe Odom got some reps with the third team defense in 7-on-7 and in 11-on-11 team work.
Donte Whitner Night Practice Quotes
On playing Cleveland, his hometown team
It feels good. I know some of the coaches over there. The DB coach (for the Browns) was my DB coach at Ohio State for my first two years.
BillsZone Training Camp Report 8/23/2006
Tonight was the final night practice of the year for the Buffalo Bills. It was also the last hard hitting practice too. The players donned full pads and made quite a bit of contact, which they most likely won't do tomorrow. As usual, the team worked on the individual drills, special teams, 7-on-7, and the 11-on-11 drill.
To start the evening off, the Buffalo Bills came out of the locker room and warmed up a bit. Some of the players tossed the football around, and others just did their own thing. Next, Bobby April had the special teams do a fake field goals. He had Kelly Holcomb behind center, while Brian Moorman was in the backfield. Moorman took the pitch and ran it in for the touchdown. They also had Moorman catch a pass from Kelly Holcomb in the end zone for the touchdown. And lastly, they practiced a field goal blocking drill with the lines. It wasn't supposed to be a full contact drill, as none of the players were wearing helmets. They were just having Brian Moorman do some fake swings as the guys would try to get in there and block it. However Moorman decided to kick it on the last play, which wasn't a good idea as the guys didn't expect it. The ball was blocked, but it was stopped by Chris Kelsay's bare head. You could hear the sound of the ball hitting his skull and the whole crowd went "OOOHHH" as it happened. Kelsay took a knee for bit and was a little woozy but he got up and was fine for the rest of the day.
The team then loosened up with the stretches and got right to work. The players worked on individual drills with each individual unit. Then they started working together on some drills, like they always do. Next the Buffalo Bills went right to the full team 11-on-11 drills. Lionel Gates started it out with a 3-yard run up the middle. JP Losman then hit Josh Reed for 12-yards. Gates then had another carry and took it up the middle for about 10-yards. Alan Ricard made a nice crushing block to spring him. JP Losman then underthrew Robert Royal. Anthony Thomas got the ball next and ran up the middle for 3-yards. Next, Andre Davis took the ball in a reverse and gained about 20-yards. Kelly Holcomb then dumped the ball off to Jonathan Smith, who gained 8-yards and held onto the ball, even though he was levelled by Liam Ezekiel.
JP Losman then came back in and threw a beautiful bomb to Andre Davis, who dropped it. Joe Burns took the ball on the next play and ran up the middle for 5-yards. Shaud Williams tried the same thing and was stuffed for a short gain two times in a row. Craig Nall then came under center and threw a nice looking sideline pass to Josh Reed for about 30-yards. Next, Fred Jackson tried to do some running and was stuffed by Wendell Hunter on one play and Mario Haggan on the next one. JP came back and threw a nice quick pass to Lee Evans for 22-yards. He was then "sacked" by London Fletcher on a blitz on the next play. Losman then tried to hit Lee Evans, but Jabari Greer came in there and knocked it down. JP finished the drill with a nice pass to Robert Royal for 15-yards. Craig Nall came back for the last 2 plays and first threw a quick screen to Joe Burns for 2-yards. He then took a "sack" due to solid coverage by the defense.
Next up the Buffalo Bills worked on some special teams. Coach Bobby April pumped in some artificial crowed noise and had the speakers blaring with music as they practiced punts. Brian Moorman was working on punting from his own end zone and was kicking the ball anywhere from 50-70 yards. Nate Clements, Roscoe Parrish and Jonathan Smith fielded the ball. They did one fake punt where Moorman threw a nice pass to Eric King for the first down. Coach April also had Nicholas Setta rush the punter each time. The drill was good, until the last snap by Ryan Neill flew about 4 feet over Brian Moorman's head.
Following the special teams drills, the team went to work on some 7-on-7 drills. JP Losman started out with a nice pass to Lee Evans for 13-yards. Next he hit Roscoe Parrish for 6-yards. Losman then hit Evans again, who made a nice leaping grab for an 11-yard gain. He then found Josh Reed for 7-yards. Kelly Holcomb was up next and threw a nice looking 20-yard pass to Sam Aiken, who made a great catch. Holcomb then hit Willis McGahee for 9-yards. Craig Nall then came in and overthrew George Wilson. But he made it up on the next play with a nice pass to Lee Evans for 12-yards. JP Losman came back in and dumped the ball off to George Wilson for 8-yards. Next, he hit Jonathan Smith for 14-yards. And then Losman found Robert Royal for 11-yards.
Craig Nall had another chance and found Willis McGahee for 7-yards. Willis showed some good hands by making the catch with his arms out. Nall then finished the drill with a quick pass to Shaud Williams for about 6-yards. Kelly Holcomb came back and threw a pass that was almost intercepted by Nate Clements. Nate had the ball, but couldn't hang on. He kicked the ball jokingly and laughed in frustration. Holcomb then dumped the ball off to Josh Reed for 6-yards and Wendell Hunter was waiting for Reed. JP Losman came back in one last time and threw a 60-yard bomb to Jonathan Smith that was almost intercepted by Jabari Greer, but instead it got tipped a bit and Smith made a sweet one handed catch. Losman then dumped off to McGahee for 8-yards. He finished this drill with a nice bomb to to Andre Davis, but Davis didn't go after it. Kelly Holcomb then came back and hit Robert Royal for 6-yards. He then found Josh Reed for a short gain to finish the drill.
Next the team went back to some 11-on-11 drills. JP Losman started it off with a 13-yard pass to Lee Evans, who made another leaping grab to haul it in. Lionel Gates took the next snap and ran up the middle for 7-yards. Next, Nate Clements made a nice play to knock down the pass intended for Lee Evans. Losman then threw a nice screen to Willis McGahee that went for 15-yards. Andre Davis dropped another pass in his hands. Kelly Holcomb came out there and threw a quick pass to Jonathan Smith for 9-yards. Lionel Gates ran the ball around the right tackle for an 11-yard gain. Holcomb then hit Josh Reed for 10-yards. Next, Craig Nall came in and threw a pass to Lionel Gates, but it was dropped. Lionel Gates made up for that with a 10-yard run up the middle. Nall then dumped the ball off to Gates for 5-yards and Wendell Hunter was there and levelled him.
JP Losman came back under center and dumped off to Josh Reed for 8-yards. Anthony Thomas then took a crack at running the ball and gained 6-yards on the first place, and then was tackled by London Fletcher immediately after a 4-yard gain. JP Losman then found George Wilson, but Wilson dropped it. Kelly Holcomb came back in and hit Chris Denney for 8-yards. Shaud Williams tried to run on the next play, but was stuffed. Holcomb then had one more chance in this drill and found George Wilson for 5-yards. JP Losman came back on the field for 2 more plays. He first hit Lee Evans for 9-yards, while feeling some intense pressure from the defensive line. JP then finished it off with a pass to Martin Nance for 11-yards. Craig Nall got the last snap of this drill and found open Sam Aiken for 10-yards.
Following the drill, the team went back to work on special teams. This time field goals was their specialty. Bobby April again used the music and crowd noise to get at the kickers. This time Rian Lindell had to listen to the music blaring and the fans shouting. The players even stood behind him shouting and raising their arms to get the crowd to start cheering. It didn't distract Lindell one bit. He nailed the 48-yard field goal and the players then mobbed him.
Next the Bills worked on some running plays using the 9-on-7. Willis McGahee started it out with a nice run to the outside for 8-yards. He had more problems running up the middle, gaining only 2-3 yards each on the next two plays. Then JP Losman threw a nice pass to Roscoe Parrish for 18-yards. Willis tried running up the middle again, but had no room to run and had only a short gain. JP then hit Parrish one more time, for 10-yards. Anthony Thomas tried his luck up the middle and only gained 2-3 yards too. Craig Nall then threw a pass to George Wilson (who made a great sideline catch) for 17-yards. Lionel Gates took the ball next and gained about 4-yards, but was hit really hard by Donte Whitner. They actually hit eachother pretty hard. Whitner's helmet came flying off. Craig Nall then threw a pass to Sam Aiken, who couldn't hang on to it. Nall finished the drill with a screen to Andre Davis for 10-yards.
Following this drill, the offense worked on trying to chew up the clock, while the defense tried to stop the run and take timeouts. They started out with JP Losman and Lionel Gates facing some backups and third teamers. Gates ran up the middle for 4-yards on the first play. But then he was stopped for a loss of 5-yards by Takeo Spikes on the next play. JP Losman finished it off with a pass to Roscoe Parrish in the middle of the field for 4-yards. Joe Burns struggled in the next series against the backup defense and was stuffed on all 3 plays. Finally, Craig Nall and Fred Jackson faced the starting defense. They started out nicely with a 4-yard run for Fred Jackson. But he was stopped by Chris Kelsay for no gain on the next play. They finished it off by moving the chains when Craig Nall hit Roscoe Parrish for about 8-yards to end the night.
----------------------------------------------
Extra Points:
1. JP Losman had an average night. He made some nice throws, but also threw some dangerous passes too. In my opinion, he threw off his back foot too much and was a little bit uncomfortable in the pocket. Kelly Holcomb did the usual, and Craig Nall was okay.
2. Andre Davis may have played himself off the team tonight. He had a chance to show his stuff while Peerless Price was out, but he had too many drops and wasn't in sync with the quarterbacks at all.
3. Lee Evans is going to be fun to watch this year. He has a good connection with JP Losman on the field and is also looking really fast. It was nice to see all the Losman to Evans passes tonight. I can't wait to see that more often this season.
4. Willis McGahee didn't see a lot of action tonight as they were probably trying to rest him a bit to see what the backups have. I still think that it's down to Anthony Thomas and Lionel Gates for the #2 and #3 job. I will be shocked if Joe Burns and/or Shaud Williams stays.
5. Takeo Spikes is almost there. I have watched him each week and noticed that his speed is coming back. He is starting to make plays and is penetrating the backfield the way he used to. I think he will be 100% ready for the season opener against the Patriots.
6. Jabari Greer has locked up the starting nickel spot just based on training camp. He has shown a nose for the ball and was all over the field tonight. I think he's going to be a really good corner and might even be the replacement for Nate Clements next season.
7. Wendell Hunter is another player that impressed me tonight. I liked what I saw from him all training camp, but I really like him now. He is roaming the field and making tackles left and right. He may turn out to be another gem like Crowell.
8. Props to London Fletcher, Willis McGahee, Donte Whitner, Brian Moorman, Robert Royal, Craig Nall, and of course JP Losman for coming to the fence to sign autographs for the fans. JP Losman definitely made a couple fans happy when he signed his cleats and threw them in the crowd.
Overall, it was another great night at St. John Fisher College. The night practices are always a fun time as there is more of a crowd and sometimes they really get into it. I can't believe that tonight was the last one. The team will have one last walk-thru tomorrow and then will head back to Buffalo. I'll be back with a final wrap up from Buffalo Bills Training Camp next week.
Enough Already, … On With It!
If most fans are like me, then they’re wriggling their way through a blasé preseason eagerly awaiting the start of the real McCoy. The NFL preseason is the equivalent of walking into an ice cream shop on a hot, muggy summer day, getting one of those teeny spoons of a sample of your favorite flavor and then leaving. With less than three weeks to go prior to the regular season, the start of the regular season cannot come soon enough.
Spikes ready to become Bills’ playmaker again
At 6-foot-2, 240 pounds, he’s a workout fanatic who saw rehabilitation as nothing more than his latest challenge.
And the Bills desperately need him to be the player he was.
Bills Add to Linebacking Corps
The Bills continued to make moves with their linebacking corps. After releasing veteran Jeff Posey and waiving Courtney Watson, Buffalo signed former Chicago linebacker Joe Odom off waivers Wednesday.
Bills' rookie Youboty still on bereavement leave
Buffalo Bills rookie cornerback Ashton Youboty remains out of camp and is back home with his family grieving over the death of his mother.
Spikes May Make Official Return From Injury On Saturday
Linebacker Takeo Spikes has spent so much time lobbying Bills coaches to test his injured right leg in a preseason game, he'd almost given up on that happening. It's why he was stunned when coach Dick Jauron, on Tuesday, said it was possible that Spikes will play Saturday when Buffalo hosts Cleveland.
Thomas uses all his talents
It's 11-on-11 drills, and linebacker Keith Ellison noticed a small sliver of light and made a beeline to the quarterback. Turns out it was too small. Running back Anthony Thomas stepped in front of Ellison's path, sending the poor rookie backwards with a block that was probably felt throughout the St. John Fisher campus. Ellison had just been introduced to the A Train.
Bills' Hunter finds ways to get noticed
Mention Wendell Hunter and the reply of most Buffalo Bills fans would be "Who?" Hunter's name doesn't exactly jump out at you on the Bills' roster. After all, he spent last season on the practice squad and figured to be nothing more than another body in training camp.
NFL star bouncing back after battling cancer
They called him the Arkansas Rifle. Arkansas Razorback, and before that, Woodlawn Knight Joe Ferguson went on to lead the Buffalo Bills for 18 seasons. Then, recently, while leading a healthy lifestyle, Joe was thrown a cancer diagnosis.
Life without football is pretty empty for Ricard
If he does not make Buffalo's final roster — and the reality is that because he just joined the team three weeks ago and Daimon Shelton resides above him on the depth chart, that's a real possibility — Ricard can only hope he can find a job somewhere in football.
Troy Vincent Jumps Into Gumbel/Tagliabue Beef
Bryant Gumbel’s recent criticism of the NFL’s relationship with its players' union has now riled up Buffalo Bills safety Troy Vincent, who also serves as president of the National Football League’s Players Association.
Cribbs returns to home - of sorts
Browns wide receiver/kick returner Joshua Cribbs is going “home” this weekend.
Rather, to Buffalo.
Jauron continues handling QB situation correctly
After two preseason affairs in which quarterbacks J.P. Losman and Kelly Holcomb took the spotlight for the Buffalo Bills , new head coach Dick Jauron has elected to give third-stringer Craig Nall a more earnest chance at leading the offense.
Moorman has ‘special’ feeling about season
Coming off his first Pro Bowl season, Buffalo Bills punter Brian Moorman is excited about his unit’s outlook for 2006.
Team has high hopes for McCargo
With the big money that comes with being a first-round draft pick in the NFL comes high expectations.
The pressure only increases when a team trades up to pick you. That’s a lesson Buffalo Bills defensive tackle John McCargo is about to learn.

Bowen has MRI; Whitner Excused
The Buffalo Bills were again shorthanded at strong safety Tuesday as veteran Matt Bowen underwent an MRI on the bone bruise he initially suffered in the preseason game against Carolina. The results were negative.
Dick Jauron Afternoon Practice Quotes
On Spikes
We’re trying to give Takeo more reps. He is well over 20 reps per practice. He’s getting a little more physical and a lot more confident. We need to start getting him ready.
Takeo Spikes Afternoon Practice Quotes
On whether he’ll play this weekend
No. We haven’t even talked about it. It hasn’t been a thought. Right now their thing is making sure I’m mentally right at this point, before we decide to do anything.
Bills LB Spikes' preseason debut a `possibility' Saturday
Linebacker Takeo Spikes has spent so much time lobbying Bills coaches to test his injured right leg in a preseason game, he'd almost given up on that happening.
It's why he was stunned when coach Dick Jauron, on Tuesday, said it was possible that Spikes will play Saturday when Buffalo hosts Cleveland.
Quarterback Shuffle
There's an update on the quarterback rotation at training camp. The Job is still J.P. Losman's to lose, but Craig Nall will get the bulk of the play calling as Losman's backup against the Cleveland Browns Saturday. Kelly Holcomb is not scheduled to play.
London Fletcher After Practice Quotes
On Takeo being the same player he was before
I think every day he gets more and more to being where he was pre injury, and you can see it in some of his breaks and the plays that he’s making out here on the football field. It’s just how he’s attacking things, and I think he’s definitely headed in the right direction.
Spikes Might Play Saturday
Bills head coach Dick Jauron didn't rule out the possibility of Takeo Spikes playing against the Cleveland Browns in Buffalo's third preseason game Saturday.
"I think he's probably ready, but we're going to address it as we get closer," said Jauron. "Physically he's probably ready."
Bills cut four players
The Buffalo Bills today released four players: defensive tackle LaWaylon Brown, defensive tackle Tai Tupai, offensive tackle Matt Morgan and linebacker Courtney Watson.
Bills Waive Four Players
The Buffalo Bills didn't wait until Tuesday Aug. 29 to reduce their roster to the league required 75. The club waived four players a week prior to that cutdown date releasing defensive tackles LaWaylon Brown and Tai Tupai along with offensive tackle Matt Morgan and linebacker Courtney Watson.
Bills need Whitner to play like veteran
Donte Whitner is standing on the sidelines at training camp. He's mingling and sharing a laugh with a few teammates, as if he's been a part of the Buffalo Bills for years.
Evans has Ferrari speed, but he's blue-collar like his father
"My dad is a blue-collar guy and I'm a blue-collar guy deep down," Evans was saying after a recent training-camp practice at St. John Fisher College. "He always told me, 'It's all right to dream, but nothing's for free. You've got to work for anything and everything you get in life.' It's a motto I've followed every step of the way."
Proving himself nothing new for Simpson
For as long as he can remember, safety Ko Simpson has been trying to prove himself on a football field. So, despite his rookie status, his time spent at St. John Fisher College this summer has been comfortably familiar.
Slip-up causes Price to miss practice
Peerless Price doesn't have a catch through two preseason games.
But the reason the Buffalo Bills veteran wide receiver was absent without an excuse from practice on Sunday was a lot more mundane than being angry or frustrated.
Losman to Evans is the real deal for Buffalo
Though the third-year man has had more struggles than triumphs since being selected in the draft's first round in 2004, there's no denying his connection with a fellow first-rounder from the very same draft class, teammate Lee Evans.
Dick Jauron Night Practice Quotes
On JP still being the front runner
Same situation, JP is the front runner, he did some real good things in the game and he did some real bad things. He took some steps forward and that was good. We’ll keep it just like that, he’ll get the majority of the reps.
Price Fined; Preston in the Pivot
Bills head coach Dick Jauron isn't concerned about Peerless Price being a problem on his roster this season, but that doesn't mean he excused his practice schedule oversight when he missed Sunday's walk through at St. John Fisher. Jauron fined the veteran receiver.
Nall to Play Plenty Against Cleveland
It doesn't look like Kelly Holcomb will be seeing much action this weekend in Buffalo's third preseason game against Cleveland according to head coach Dick Jauron.
Bills WR Price fined for missing practice
Peerless Price was fined by the Buffalo Bills on Monday for missing practice a day earlier after the receiver mistakenly misread the team's schedule.

Buffalo Bills 2006 Season Preview
Marv Levy and Dick Jauron are two men with decades of NFL experience between them.
Though to hear most folks in league circles talk, you would think the new Buffalo Bills braintrust is little more than a bunch of rookies.
Losman gives Buffalo faithful look at bumpy journey awaiting in 2006
As the fans scattered throughout Ralph Wilson Stadium on Friday night realized that Buffalo's second straight offensive snap had ended with J.P. Losman fumbling the ball away to a Cincinnati defender, an unfamiliar noise went up.
Bills WR Price back at practice after misreading schedule
Peerless Price was back on the field with the Bills on Monday, a day after the receiver missed practice because he misread the team's schedule.
Bowen: Ferret Antics
As the 2006 training camp begins to wind down, so does players minds. There are times when you catch yourself saying the most colossally stupid and idiotic things imagined. Maybe it is the pounding you take day in and day out, or maybe you just lose it a little after three weeks on the field and in the classroom.
Bills' Price misses practice
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Peerless Price was missing from the team's afternoon practice Sunday at St. John Fisher College. Coach Dick Jauron was unavailable for comment following the light workout but will address the situation today. Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold said that Price was "absent."
Bills' Fowler feeds off family's support
It didn't matter if Fowler was playing locally on Long Island for Half Hollow Hills High, down in Florida during his time at Maryland, or on the West Coast during his previous NFL stints with Cleveland and Minnesota. Mom and Dad made it to every game, and now that they are retired, they try to make it to as many training-camp practices as they can and have been frequent visitors to St. John Fisher College.
Bills report: Inside slant
Bills fans have been waiting three years to see running back Willis McGahee break a long touchdown run.
The wait ended Friday night against the Cincinnati Bengals when the trimmed-down McGahee scored on a dazzling 61-yard run in the first quarter.
Bills report: Strategy and personnel
RB Willis McGahee's 61-yard TD run in Friday's preseason loss to Cincinnati was the longest run of his NFL career by 14 yards. He briefly left the game to get fluids after taking ill on the sideline but was OK afterward.
Bills report: Notes, quotes
Bills owner Ralph Wilson will miss his first training camp since founding the Bills in 1960. Wilson is home in Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich., getting treatment for a back problem.
The good, bad and ugly from the Bills' Friday defeat
There were plenty of positives for Buffalo this time, however, as some young players grew up a little bit and various position battles became clearer. Having said that, it's time to take a look at a few standouts and letdowns from the Bills' second straight loss.
Do Bills Have "Chunkability"?
Dick Jauron said early in training camp that in order to win in the NFL, your offense must get “big chunks” of yardage several times during a game. That means 20 yards and more. Long, time-consuming drives are nice, but you win by gobbling up the chunks.
Nall gains ground on Holcomb
Craig Nall is pushing Kelly Holcomb to be the Bills’ second-string quarterback, according to a Gannett News Service report.

Bills WR Price misses practice
Buffalo Bills receiver Peerless Price missed practice, two days after he was held without a catch for the second consecutive preseason game.
Hunter Makes the Most of his Cincy Start
It raised some eyebrows before Friday night's preseason game against Cincinnati. With Takeo Spikes not playing against the Bengals as he continues his recovery from his Achilles injury the Bills coaching staff chose to give linebacker Wendell Hunter the start in his place. Apparently those in the press box weren't the only ones surprised by the decision.
Evans settling into top wideout role
Moulds' departure has opened the door for Evans to replace him as the Bills' No. 1 wideout. If there were any doubts about Evans' ability to handle the job, he may have put them to rest during the Bills' 44-31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday night.
Nall putting pressure on Holcomb for No. 2
It's likely that the erratic Losman did just enough right to maintain his front-running status heading into Saturday's home game with Cleveland, but Nall may have passed Holcomb in the race for the No.2 job.
Stadium naming rights could be long-term option
Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson has sounded all the warning alarms — without an equitable revenue-sharing agreement, the long-term security of the team in Western New York is at risk.
Losman and Bills lack consistency
If coach Dick Jauron is going to hand the Buffalo offence over to quarterback J.P. Losman, he'll have to learn to endure games like Friday's pre-season loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Bills still have some questions at quarterback
It wasn’t a bad night for the 49,488 in attendance at “The Ralph” on Friday night if the “Don’t Shoot, I’m Not Bucky” t-shirts were sufficient amusement.

Bills #1 in Unit-by-unit special teams rankings
1. Buffalo Bills: Special teams coach Bobby April survived Buffalo's regime change for good reason. April's coverage units and blocking units, led by Josh Stamer and Sam Aiken, rarely allow a big play, and they make good return men like Terrence McGee, Roscoe Parrish, and Jonathan Smith look great. Brian Moorman led the NFL with 45.7 gross yards per punt and is a fine directional punter. Kicker Ryan Lindell is adequate on field goals and kickoffs. Special teams may be highly variable from year to year, but Buffalo topped our ratings in both 2004 and 2005.
Wilson misses camp for first time
For the first time in franchise history, Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson won't be able to attend training camp because of a bad back. But Bills general manager Marv Levy said Wilson, who turns 88 in October is resting comfortably at his Michigan home and hopes to attend the season opener Sept. 10 at New England.
McGahee again has bounce in his step
Willis McGahee was the ricochet we all remember from his college days Friday, harder to catch than a guy who owes you money. He fluttered. He dashed. He disappeared into the end zone.
Losman has a good/bad night
Brace yourselves, folks. This is what you're in for with J.P. Losman as the Bills' starting quarterback, at least in the short term. It will be an adventure. Losman will lift you out of your seat one minute, cheering his name, and the next you'll be cursing him and wanting to smash a drum set over his head.
Bills lose big-play battle
If the Buffalo Bills proved anything during Friday night's preseason home opener against the Cincinnati Bengals, it was the offense is capable of making - and giving up - big plays.
Bengals' strip search finds Bills
While they’re still trying to figure out how to prevent the big pop (Buffalo chewed up 197 of their 366 yards on five plays), the Bengals scored two defensive touchdowns and then sacked and stripped quarterback J.P. Losman twice in the final 2:07 of the first half to stun the Bills’ first-team offense for 20 points.
Fans pay bills but can't watch Bills
Blacking out regular-season NFL games in stadiums financed with public funds is bad enough. Blacking out meaningless exhibition games such as Friday night's Cincinnati Bengals at Buffalo Bills "showdown" because it wasn't a sellout in advance was a bad joke on taxpayers.
Evans sparkles in role of top receiver
ORCHARD PARK — Eric who?
Any doubts whether Lee Evans is ready to replace the departed Eric Moulds as the Buffalo Bills' No. 1 wideout were put to rest Friday night.
Losman hasn't earned job yet
ORCHARD PARK — Don't turn off the oven just yet.
The main entrée of the Buffalo Bills preseason — finding a quarterback who will keep fans at Ralph Wilson Stadium from reaching for the king-sized bottle of Rolaids — isn't quite done cooking.
Turnovers in first half mean doom in defeat
ORCHARD PARK — If you like big plays, Ralph Wilson Stadium was the place to be Friday night.
Unfortunately for the Buffalo Bills, too many of those big plays went against them and they suffered their second straight preseason loss, a 44-31 drubbing at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Bengals Bury Bumbling Bills 44-31
Chad Johnson got his first touchdown this preseason. The Bengals receiver's bid to celebrate, though, was denied.
It didn't matter much, because there was enough high-scoring entertainment in Cincinnati's mean-nothing 44-31 win over the Buffalo Bills on Friday night.

Losman To Start; Could Play a Half
Heading into the Bills second preseason game against Cincinnati Friday Bills head coach Dick Jauron reiterated that quarterback J.P. Losman will be the first signal caller under center. "J.P. will start and will play a good deal of that first half, maybe all of it," Jauron said.
Tonight's game: Bengals at Bills
While the Bengals are waiting for No. 1 QB Carson Palmer to return, the Bills are just searching for a No. 1 guy. Kelly Holcomb, J.P. Losman and Craig Nall are vying for the position so the Cincinnati defense needs to be prepared for the best from all three.
Bills need to go on the offensive
The unreserved sanguinity that engulfed the Buffalo Bills when training camp opened two weeks ago has receded, replaced this week by reality-induced common sense.
Heated football seats show their age
Forecasters expect temperatures to cool down only into the low 70s for the Buffalo Bills' preseason opener tonight in Ralph Wilson Stadium. Hardly chilly enough for anyone to think of using any of the stadium's 6,800 heated seats.
Bills' 'A-Train' hoping to get back on right track
Bills coach Dick Jauron knows first-hand what Thomas is capable of when given the chance, and he admits Thomas was brought in based on more than just his physical talents.
Kelly backs decision to go with Losman
Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, who visited the Buffalo Bills' St. John Fisher training camp Thursday, said coach Dick Jauron is making the right move in announcing that the QB job is J.P. Losman's to lose.
Watson looks to fit with the Bills
Former Saint hopes to earn a linebacker job as he starts over
J.P. Losman making the run at No. 1
J.P. Losman can win the competition for the Buffalo Bills starting quarterback job with a good performance against the Cincinnati Bengals tonight at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
Visit to Buffalo brings back bad memories
The last time the Bengals and Bills hooked up, it wasn't a pleasant day for Cincinnati.
Go back to Christmas Eve 2005, when Buffalo cornerback Terrence McGee turned Paul Brown Stadium into his personal playground in a 37-27 Bills victory, spoiling the Bengals' regular-season home finale.
Four Bills with plenty to gain tonight
There are a few interesting players on the Bills that, with solid to great performances, could really set themselves up nicely on the team's depth chart, which does have some grey areas at the moment.
Adams ready for return to Buffalo
Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Sam Adams likes Buffalo in his rearview mirror.
The 13-year NFL veteran, who spent the past three seasons with the Bills, signed with the Bengals in April.
Crowells balance faith, football
Come Sundays in the fall, religion and football leave many Americans with a choice — take a seat in their place of worship or along the 50-yard line.
That’s one of the reasons why Buffalo Bills linebacker Angelo Crowell’s parents — Napoleon and Patricia — will be at Ralph Wilson Stadium tonight to see their son play the Cincinnati Bengals.
Fletcher, defense look to rebound against Cincy
London Fletcher knows the first drive of a football game can often dictate the flow of the contest.
That’s why the Buffalo Bills middle linebacker is determined to see the starting unit rebound from its performance against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday night.

With Bengals' Palmer out, QB focus falls on Bills' Losman
The big question for the Cincinnati Bengals is this: When is Carson Palmer finally going to test his surgically repaired knee in a preseason game?
It won't happen Friday when the Bengals travel to play the Buffalo Bills. So Palmer's status remains the hot topic.
Price attempting to jump-start career with Bills
Peerless Price has discovered a few unexpected benefits since he returned to the Buffalo Bills after a three-year absence.
Jim Kelly likes what he’s seen of J.P. Losman
J.P. Losman can wrap up the Buffalo Bills quarterback competition with a good showing against the Cincinnati Bengals Friday night at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
Jauron's not messing around
Beneath the tan safari hat and behind the steely eyes is a calmness that comes with Dick Jauron. He's a quiet and unassuming person, a gentleman who could spend years living in anonymity in Western New York if he held any position other than that of head coach of the Buffalo Bills.
A daily dose from Bills training camp
The Bills hoped rookie free safety Ko Simpson had good instincts when they drafted him in the fourth round, but his ball-hawking skills have exceeded their expectations throughout training camp. Simpson is challenging Rashad Baker for the backup spot behind veteran Troy Vincent.
Aiken follows a special legend
While signing autographs at St. John Fisher College following the workout, Aiken was informed that the No. 89 jersey he was wearing was one of the most famous in Buffalo Bills history.
Bills' two new veteran receivers must elevate their games
One reception, eight yards.
The above total is all Buffalo Bills receivers Peerless Price and Andre' Davis could muster in their first preseason game last weekend. The duo was brought in during the free-agency period to help bolster a Bills receiving corps that lost its most experienced and productive pass catcher, Eric Moulds, in April.
Wilson misses camp for first time
Since founding the Buffalo Bills in 1960, owner Ralph Wilson has never missed a training camp. That streak will end this year because of a bad back.
Losman To Start; Could Play a Half
Heading into the Bills second preseason game against Cincinnati Friday Bills head coach Dick Jauron reiterated that quarterback J.P. Losman will be the first signal caller under center.
D-line Shuffling Continues
At Wednesday night's practice Tim Anderson and Chris Kelsay were back in their familiar starting roles on the defensive line. Rookie Kyle Williams and veteran end Ryan Denney didn't unseat the incumbents as much as they rotated in for them.
Craig Nall After Practice Quotes
On playing Friday night:
I ran a couple of sprint outs today and kind of looked back at Coach Schonert like what are you doing to me, but it felt good. I didn’t have any problems and I’m ready to go. It’s just a matter of getting out there and getting back the rhythm of playing football. Also, not thinking so much, just going out there and playing.
Nate Clements After Practice Quotes
On what advice he offers to the new players:
I try to set an example by action. Your actions speak louder than words. I work out hard, practice hard, study my playbook and I do the things on and off the field which is what respectable players do.
Donte Whitner After Practice Quotes
On how much getting reps with the first teams help with Matt Bowen out:
Since Matt (Bowen) went down, I’ve taken every snap with the first team. It’s unfortunate that Matt went down. Matt will be back soon. He’s competitive and we’re still going to compete for the starting job.
JP Losman After Practice Quotes
On knowing a good performance can make him the starter:
I’m excited, but you know what, it’s more of a different excitement. It’s not exciting; it’s more like I have to get it done.
Dick Jauron - Night Practice Quotes
On how much each Quarterback will play…
I have a pretty good idea, but I’m not going to say right now. JP will play a good deal of the first half, maybe all of it. We’ll just have to wait and see and then it just depends how the second half goes.
Nall will play in Friday's game
Coach Dick Jauron said Wednesday night that Nall will see time in Friday’s preseason game against the Cincinatti Bengals.
Williams on the Defensive
The name Williams has meant something to the Buffalo defense. Pat Williams who the Bills missed a great deal last season. Most Bills fans aren't yet familiar with the name Kyle Williams, but they probably will be soon.
Bills S Whitner expected to start in place of injured Bowen
Injured safety Matt Bowen is expected to miss Buffalo's preseason game against Cincinnati on Friday, giving rookie first-round draft pick Donte Whitner an opportunity to make his debut as a starter.

Nall aims to get back in QB race
Craig Nall has been in the same situation many times in his career and survived, which was why he refused to doubt himself Tuesday. That he fell far behind in the Buffalo Bills' quarterback competition was indisputable. He's in no-man's land as their No. 3 passer.
Fowler keeps everything in check
If you want to know the truth, J.P. Losman is losing the competition. Melvin Fowler, the Bills' new starting center, says it's not even close. Fowler has been there in the decisive moments, with the game on the line, and he contends that Losman is the team's clear-cut No. 2 - in chess.
Denney thinks new scheme fits him
One meeting is all it took to end Denney's free-agent tour. He re-signed with the Bills because he thinks the new defensive system will allow him to become the player he knows he can become.
Nall still deserves chance in Buffalo's QB derby
The strong-armed Nall is trying desperately to work his way back into the thick of the Bills' quarterback battle, and this Friday's stage could be his chance to climb up the ladder.
Buffalo QBs Holcomb, Nall won't give up fight to be No. 1
Kelly Holcomb's play and Craig Nall's injured hamstring have them running second and third to J.P. Losman in the race for the Bills starting quarterback job.
But neither is throwing in the towel.
Williams is a disruptive dream for the Bills
The editors at Pro Football Weekly scored a bull's-eye when assessing Buffalo Bills rookie defensive tackle Kyle Williams in their NFL draft guide last spring.

Cornerback Greer soaks up camp sun
Forget this real job stuff, Jabari Greer has finally conceded. It’s taken the former Tennessee star three years to realize playing professional football is as much avocation as vocation.
Royal clicking with Losman
Most football guys aren’t known for their love of science, but ask tight end Robert Royal and he senses chemistry with quarterback J.P. Losman.
Bills rookie DT Williams playing big despite small size
For as long as Bills rookie Kyle Williams can remember, he's been knocked for being too short, too slim or not strong enough to play defensive tackle.
"Just not enough of everything," Williams said, shaking his head with a grin Tuesday, recalling the criticisms that have been directed his way.
So much for what people know.
BillsZone Training Camp Report 8/15/2006
We are now on Day 16 of Buffalo Bills Training Camp. There is less than only six practices left at St. John Fisher. The players again came out wearing full pads and had some full contact drills. The Buffalo Bills practiced on the grass fields today. The weather was perfect, no rain for a change and it wasn't uncomfortably hot like it has been. There was also a pretty nice turnout from the fans. As for the practice, the team worked on the individual drills, special teams, 7-on-7, and the full team 11-on-11 drills.
The Buffalo Bills did some stretching and then individual drill, just like every other day. Next, they went to work on special teams. Like always, Head Coach Dick Jauron gave Bobby April quite a bit of time to work on special teams. This time the unit worked on covering and defending punt returns. Roscoe Parrish, Jonathan Smith, Nate Clements and Jim Leonhard fielded the punts.
Following the Special Teams work, the team spent some time on 7-on-7 drills. JP Losman took the majority of the reps, but Craig Nall also took some reps, along with Kelly Holcomb. JP Losman started out right away by hitting Robert Royal with a quick pass for about 9-yards. Next he threw a pass to Kevin Everett, but Takeo Spikes was there covering and broke it up. Losman did make up for that with a sweet 20-yard pass to Peerless Price, who impressed the fans with a great leaping catch. JP then tried to hit Willis McGahee, but again Takeo Spikes was right there and broke the play up. Losman then hit Jonathan Smith in stride for about 18-yards. Kelly Holcomb then came in for a couple plays and threw a quick pass to Andre Davis for 7-yards. Then he hit Lee Evans for 6-yards. Craig Nall then got a chance and threw a screen to Shaud Williams for 3-yards. JP Losman came back for a play and found Robert Royal near the sideline for about 6-yards. Nall then came back in and found Josh Reed for 12-yards. JP Losman then had two more reps and first hit Robert Royal for 5-yards, but then he overthrew Robert Royal on the next play. Kelly Holcomb came in and hit Lee Evans with a quick strike for about 10-yards. Craig Nall came back in and hit Robert Royal for 7 yards and then came in later and overthrew Royal. Losman threw a quick screen to Willis McGahee for 8-yards, then threw behind Robert Royal. JP then finished up the drill with 3 consecutive completions. His first pass was to George Wilson for 7-yards, in the middle of the field. He then hit Roscoe Parrish for 6-yards and then finished the day in this drill with a 4-yarder to Josh Reed.
Next up was the 11-on-11 drill. Just like with all the other drills, JP Losman started off. The first play was a nice run around the right tackle for 6-yards by Willis McGahee. JP Losman then hit Lee Evans for 5-yards and threw a screen to Anthony Thomas for 3-yards. Anthony Thomas tried to run on the next play and got stuffed. Willis McGahee then came back and ran to the outside for about 4-yards. He then took a dumpoff from JP Losman and ran for 5-yards. JP Losman then had Lee Evans 30-40 yards downfield and put too much air on the ball. Ko Simpson read it and made a sweet leaping grab to get the interception. The next play was a reverse with Peerless Price running the ball for about 8-yards. Kelly Holcomb then came back under center again and threw 2 screens to Shaud Williams. Both were for a short gain.
JP Losman came back to the huddle and overthrew Andre Davis downfield, near the sideline. It reminded me of the same play from the Carolina game, where Losman had Aiken downfield, but the ball sailed out of bounds. Losman then hit Robert Royal for 5-yards. Joe Burns came in at RB and pounded through the middle for 6-yards. Kelly Holcomb then came in under center and found Kevin Everett for about 7-yards. JP Losman came back under center and was pressured heavily by the defense. He evaded the sack and ran out of bounds for a gain of 6-yards. Losman then hit Lee Evans for 4-yards. Next, Willis McGahee carried the ball and ran to the outside around right tackle for a nice run of 10-yards. Shaud Williams tried to run next, but was stuffed. Losman then went back to pass and hit Ryan Neufeld for 6-yards. The final three plays of this drill were all running plays by Anthony Thomas. He averaged about 3-4 yards on two of the runs, but was stuffed on the other one.
After some 11-on-11 drills, the Buffalo Bills went back to practice some more special teams. This time they worked on field goals and basically setting up the lines covering the field goal unit. Rian Lindell looked good out there and was kicking the ball pretty hard. A few of them could have been good from 50-60 yards back.
Once the horn blew, the Bills went back to work on their full team 11-on-11 drills. JP Losman started it out right away with a nice 11-yard pass to Josh Reed. Willis McGahee then carried the ball and ran left to the outside for about 8-yards. JP Losman then threw a nice looking pass to Lee Evans for 15-yards. He then felt the pressure from the defense and was "sacked." Losman next found Robert Royal in the middle for 12-yards and then hit Peerless Price for 5-yards. JP was looking for Roscoe Parrish on the next play, but Roscoe couldn't hang on. Kelly Holcomb then came in and threw a quick strike to Andre Davis for 10-yards, followed by an 8-yarder to Peerless Price. JP Losman came back under center and found Shaud Williams downfield for 18-yards. Willis McGahee had a couple run plays up the middle for about 4-yards each. He then caught a screen from JP Losman and ran for 7-yards. Anthony Thomas got one last crack at carrying the ball and ran around the left tackle for 4-yards and then was stuffed on the next play. Kelly Holcomb finished out the day by feeling major pressure from Tim Anderson and taking the sack and then dumping off to Anthony Thomas for a short gain.
Extra Points:
1. JP Losman is definitely the starter unless he totally screws up. The job is his to lose. This week is the first time I have seen the reps get split so unevenly. Losman is getting over 40 reps per practice, while Kelly Holcomb is only getting about 10-15.
2. Kyle Williams and Ryan Denney have played themselves into the starting lineup. Both players had great games on Saturday and also pretty good camps. I like Kyle Williams a lot and think that he is going to be one of the biggest steals of the draft. John McCargo is also getting more playing time and will see a lot of action this season too. As for Denney, I have been very impressed with him. He has been all over the field in camp and then showed the same stuff on Saturday. I hope he can keep it up, because he may be the solid #2 defensive end that we have been missing since Phil Hansen.
3. Rashad Baker is getting the starting reps ahead of Ko Simpson right now, in place of an injured Troy Vincent. But that won't be for long. Ko Simpson continues to impress and had another great play when he read JP Losman and intercepted the pass.
4. Takeo Spikes is finally starting to show some of his old form. He was all over the field on the 7-on-7 drills, knocking down a couple passes and tackled the ball carrier a few times to. I have noticed that he is getting faster again too. He may not be 100% yet, but I have a feeling that he is getting there.
5. It was nice to see JP Losman stay behind after practice and work with the receivers on the routes that they missed. All three of the top receivers were working with him (Lee Evans, Peerless Price, and Josh Reed), along with Willis McGahee. This isn't the first time that Losman has stayed behind, but this time the other starters stayed out there with him and worked one the routes. Losman hit Price down the right sideline for about 40-yards and also worked on a bunch of short passes.
6. Props go out to Brian Moorman, Rian Lindell, Lee Evans and Josh Reed for staying out a little while to sign autographs for the fans. Moorman and Lindell came to the fence with some assorted rookies and both stayed for a while. Lee Evans and Josh Reed came to the wall at Growney Field and signed a few. Extra props go to Josh Reed for staying around until he got everybody and even taking some photos after practice with the fans.
Overall, it was another interesting day at Buffalo Bills Training Camp. JP Losman did struggle a bit, but did try to work on his errors after practice. That was very cool to see. As for the defense, I'm thrilled that Dick Jauron was willing to make the roster changed with Ryan Denney and Kyle Williams. Both players earned the promotion.
Holcomb speaks; Williams Unseats Anderson at NT
A day removed from hearing the news that J.P. Losman was the frontrunner in the quarterback competition, Kelly Holcomb didn't feel any better about the situation in which he finds himself.
Dick Jauron Afternoon Practice Quotes
On the team’s injuries:
Actually, for this time in training camp we’re pretty healthy, knock on wood, fortunately. We’ve paid a lot of attention to it and try to keep them healthy. So far, so good. Clearly if you have anybody hurt you don’t want them to be hurt. We’ve been fortunate.
Kelly Holcomb Afternoon Practice Quotes
(on the relationship between the QB’s) It’s good, you have to be professional about it. I had one of these in Cleveland – people thought Tim (Couch) and I didn’t like each other, but we’re still real good friends, matter of fact I talked to him today.
Melvin Fowler Afternoon Practice Quotes
(on if the offensive line has a preference at QB) Not really, we have faith in whoever is behind us. We’re definitely behind every single quarterback that plays whether its Craig, Kelly or JP, we’re behind them 100%.
Craig Nall Afternoon Practice Quotes
It was the trainer’s choice to limit me today, but hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to go full. I haven’t had any problems in the workouts the last two days, so that is promising.
Nine banged-up Bills sit out practice
Dick Jauron does not appear to be worried, but there is no denying that the Buffalo Bills' injury list is getting a bit cumbersome.
Bills prospect RB Jackson hurts right knee
Bills prospect running back Fred Jackson was carted off the field after hurting his right knee on one of the final plays of practice Tuesday.
For now, J.P. looks like the man
"In terms of the quarterback situation, we say J.P is the front-runner at this point," Bills coach Dick Jauron said. "He will start the next game (Friday's home game vs. Cleveland), and he will get more of the reps in practice this week."
