2008 draft is finally Modrak’s time to shine in Buffalo
by bwbrenton
Ever since Buffalo hired Tom Modrak as its director of football
operations in 2001, there has been someone at the front of the
organization who has overshadowed the 31-year NFL veteran. During his first five seasons with the Bills, Modrak took a
backseat to a friend of his, former general manager Tom Donahoe. When
the Bills fired Donahoe after his teams totaled an embarrassing 31 wins
in a half-decade, Modrak played second fiddle to one of the franchise's
all-time heroes, Hall of Fame head coach Marv Levy. After only two
years (albeit credibility-restoring ones for the Bills' fans) as the
leader of Buffalo's front office, Levy, 82, elected the position was no
longer for him. Immediately after the Bills closed their season out
with a late-December loss in Philadelphia, Levy resigned his post and
officially retired from pro football.
