Week 4 Power Rankings

by Devin Dombrowsky

I’m sure I’m going to take some flack this week for my rankings but I’m trying to be consistent. As the weeks go on the rankings get harder but they also start to come together. For the first few games I have to base some of the rankings on record but as the teams play more games it becomes more clear who is a better team. I start to get a better vision of if the teams played each other on a neutral field who would win (in my opinion). Then again, I still have to use the record in some cases. So without further ado, let’s roll off the Bills Zone Power Rankings for Week Four.

1. New York Giants (2): The Giants move back up to number one. It figures that the one week I take them out of the top spot the Cowboys blow the game and the Giants move back up. This just in: Plaxico Burress was fined another 40-50 times during the writing of these rankings.

2. Tennessee Titans (3): I know there are a handful of people who don’t want to believe that the Titans are a good team but they are people. Here is the scary thought of the week; imagine the Titans drafting Jay Cutler instead of Vince Young with the third overall pick.

3. Washington Redskins (9): The Redskins make a huge leap in the rankings but it is well deserved. Not only did they defeat Dallas, but they did it in Dallas and celebrated on the star.

4. Dallas Cowboys (1): You know what I think is ironic? Tank Johnson saying how un-classy the Redskins were for celebrating on the star while completely ignoring the fact that he plays on a team with Terrell Owens.

5. Buffalo Bills (5): I’ll be interested to see how they match up with Arizona and San Diego after the bye week. That will tell a lot about how good the Bills really are.

6. Denver Broncos (4): I’m putting some faith into the fact that this was a one week hiccup and they will rebound. However, if the defense continues to play that bad they will be dropping like a rock in these rankings.

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (12): I have to give credit to the Bucs. How they won that game with Brian Griese doing everything in his power to lose the game is beyond me. I guess that is the benefit of having an ageless wonder like Derrick Brooks on your defense.

8. Jacksonville Jaguars (13): The Jaguars are starting to come along. With each win they will build more confidence and David Garrard will return to form. I’m glad Buffalo played them when they did.

9. Philadelphia Eagles (6): The Eagles need to beat Chicago if they want to stay high in the rankings. With them playing in the NFC East they can’t be giving away games that they should definitely win. The Philly defense went from beating down on Big Ben to making Kyle Orton look like a star. You figure that one out.

10. Pittsburgh Steelers (7): I know Pittsburgh won but I actually think less of them after the game last night. They need to find a way to protect Big Ben because the beating this guy is taking is ridiculous. That isn’t the way you treat a franchise QB.

11. Carolina Panthers (11): I’m on the fence with Carolina. I can’t tell if they are really good or just beating on some teams in the NFC that aren’t completely up to par.

12. New England Patriots (10): Did anyone catch Richard Seymour on the CBS pre-game show? It’s amazing how losing Tom Brady has made the Patriot players so humble this year. What a group of good guys.

13. New Orleans Saints (14): Drew Brees is the real deal. He needs a little more help around him if they plan on making a January run this year.

14. San Diego Chargers (15): Either the Raiders are really not that bad or the Chargers just took a game off. It’s hard to tell with some of these teams.

15. Green Bay Packers (8): Not only did Aaron Rodgers look like the real Aaron Rodgers last week but he also got banged up. You can mark my words on this: If Rodgers is out for a significant amount of time the Packers are finished this season.

16. Chicago Bears (19): Could you imagine if the Bears played every week on Sunday night football?

17. Baltimore Ravens (16): I know they lost to Pittsburgh but I was impressed with the play of Joe Flacco. I thought for sure his head would be spinning and Pittsburgh would beat the hell out of him but he stood tall and almost came out with a win.

18. New York Jets (22): The worst part about the six touchdowns Brett Favre threw on Sunday is hearing about how great he is for the next six days.

19. Indianapolis Colts (20): The bye week came at a perfect time for the Colts. They need to string together quite a few wins coming up or they will be golfing in January.

20. Minnesota Vikings (18): If the Vikings could just get some competent QB play they would be in the playoffs for sure.

21. Arizona Cardinals (17): I heard that the Cardinals offense stayed on the east coast last week so they didn’t have to adjust to the time change but the defense went home to nap on Sunday.

22. San Francisco 49ers (21): I don’t know what to make of the 49ers. They really aren’t that good but they play in the NFC West so anything is possible.

23. Miami Dolphins (23): Congrats to the Dolphins for two straight weeks without losing. They haven’t had that in quite some time.

24. Seattle Seahawks (25): Seattle is such a boring team that they give me a headache just writing this little bit about them in my rankings.

25. Atlanta Falcons (24): I don’t have a whole lot of bad things to say about Atlanta so let’s just move on.

26. Kansas City Chiefs (30): I’d like to thank Kansas City for boning me in my survivor league.

27. Cleveland Browns (28): I read online that Derek Anderson was quoted as saying “We got our swagger back” after the win against the Bengals. Are you serious? They should drop in the rankings just for that stupid quote. What swagger? You guys beat the winless Bengals without Carson Palmer and not by much. SHUT UP.

28. Oakland Raiders (26): If Lane Kiffin was just trying to piss off Al Davis by attempting a 76 yard field goal then he should go all out in the next game (assuming he is still the coach) and run multiple fake punts and flea flickers throughout the game.

29. Houston Texans (27): The Texans played much better last Sunday but they need to win in order to move up.

30. Detroit Lions (31): I’m moving Detroit up one spot for firing Matt Millen. That is about as automatic of an upgrade as you’re going to get while on the bye week.

31. Cincinnati Bengals (29): This is like 90’s déjà vu all over again. All I need now is Oakland to hire Art Shell as their coach. Wait…they did that a few years ago already? What about Icky Woods? Is he still available?

32. St Louis Rams (32): Don’t fool yourselves people, the Rams are that bad. It took their best game (mixed in with trick plays and going for it on fourth down multiple times) to lead Buffalo by 8 at halftime while the Bills refused to even try.
