New York Jets 34 / New England 31
Winners: Thomas Jones (NYJ) and the Jets' running backs are so crucial to the success of Brett Favre. Jones played a huge part in the 40 minutes of ball control, with 30 carries for 104 yards and a score. You have to be impressed with Matt Cassel (NE) as well. This kid is going to get paid.
Loser: Patriot Running backs. The combo of Faulk, Morris, Green-Ellis and Evans only carried the ball 17 times for 63 yards. Asking Cassel to throw 51 times is too much; he stepped up this week, but asking a QB with his experience to throw 51 times isn’t going to lead to success often.
Denver 24 / Atlanta 20
Winner: Peyton Hillis (DEN) is a 7th round pick from Arkansas. He’s also the latest in the line of many faces to carry the ball for Denver this season. Hillis averaged 4.4 YPC and scored twice on only ten carries.
Loser: Roddy White (ATL) had a heck of a game, there’s no question. His dropped pass in the final seconds of the game cost Atlanta the win, he’s got to be on the hook for that.
Indianapolis 33 / Houston 27
Winner: Joseph Addai (IND) returned to form for the first time in a long while. On the ground, he took the rock 22 times for 105 yards and a score. Addai chipped in the passing game as well, with four grabs for 48 yards and a score.
Loser: Andre Johnson (HOU). No Bob Sanders, No Marlin Jackson and still no Andre Johnson? Johnson should’ve tee’d off on this beat up Colts secondary.
Miami 17 / Oakland 15
Winner: Ronnie Brown (MIA) finished the day averaging 6.3 YPC. His dominant performance opened the door for Ricky Williams and Tedd Ginn Jr to have some ground success of their own.
Loser: Am I the only one that seems to know Justin Fargas (OAK) isn’t an every down back? In 8 games this year, Fargas hasn’t scored once. Meanwhile, Darren McFadden is averaging 5.1 YPC.
New York Giants 30 / Baltimore 10
Winner: Brandon Jacobs (NYG) trucked all over the Ravens defense. Jacobs rushed through them like a Buick through jello. He finished the day with 11 carries for 73 yards and two scores.
Loser: Ray Lewis (BAL) got his jock packaged, shipped, and mailed to him by Ahmad Bradshaw. Anyone who jabbers like Lewis and misses a tackle like that is a loser.
Carolina 31 / Detroit 22
Winners: How about the Carolina running game? DeAngelo Williams (CAR) banged 14 carries for 120 yards and two chunks of paydirt. Jonathan Stewart (CAR) took his own piece of the action 15 times for 130 yards and a score. That’s 250 yards and three TD’s, for those at home doing the math.
Loser: I have a hard time placing the blame on Daunte Culpepper (MIN, OAK, DET) but as a rule if you turn the ball over three times you’re a loser.
Philadelphia 13 / Cincinnati 13
Winner: TJ Houshmandzadeh (CIN) Who’s You Momma! Ocho-Quatro was superb in this one, 12 grabs for a buck-fifty and seven.
Loser: Donovan McNabb (PHI). Seriously? Really? Oi Vey.
Green Bay 37 / Chicago 3
Winner: Ryan Grant (GB) broke 100 yards for only the second time this year. He was dominant in Green Bay’s rout of Chicago. Grant had 25 carries for 145 yards and a TD.
Loser: The Bears only got into scoring range once all game. Who do you blame for that? I have no idea, but it’s disgusting.
New Orleans 30 / Kansas City 20
Winner: Pierre Thomas (NO) has been filling in for the injured Reggie Bush quite admirably. On the ground, he broke off 88 yards and a score. In the passing game, he is bringing it as well, four catches for 56 yards.
Loser: Tyler Thigpen (KC,) welcome to the NFL. Thigpen has been on a roll, but with a comeback attempt in the wings, he threw to the wrong color jersey. Dagger to the heart, bullet to the chest, try again next time.
Tampa Bay 19 / Minnesota 13
Winner: Jeff Garcia (TB) didn’t score. He did complete 76% of his passes, and lead his team to their seventh win of the season.
Loser: The Williams sisters (Kevin & Pat)(MIN) combined for two tackles. Two tackles in 60 minutes and 64 plays.
San Francisco 35 / St. Louis 16
Winner: Shaun Hill (SF) has stepped into his starting role nicely; then again, he was playing the Rams. Hill put together 15 of 20 for 213 yards and two scores. The four year vet also ran one in for seven. A surprising stat: Hill has 10 TD’s and only 3 INT’s over his career.
Loser: What is going on with Marc Bulger (STL)? The Rams QB threw the ball 53 times for 295 yards, but turned the football over three times in the first half.
Arizona 26 / Seattle 20
Winner: Anquan Boldin (ARI) had 100 receiving yards in the first half. He finished the day with 186 yards and 13 catches. The Cards are on a roll, and have a four game lead on the division.
Loser: Matt Hasselbeck (SEA), welcome back. You’re team is still a mess, and you helped! Three interceptions and a QB Rating of 47.3 is not going to turn this team around.
Tennessee 24 / Jacksonville 14
Winner: You don’t get to 10-0 without having multiple people step up. This week, it was Kerry Collins' (TEN) turn. Collins isn’t a weak link teams can pick on. This week he threw for 230 yards and three TD’s.
Loser: David Garrard (JAX) has already doubled last season’s interception total. Garrard finished this game with a QB Rating of 43; in games where he has a QB Rating of 75 or less, the Jags are 0-4.
Pittsburgh 11 / San Diego 10
Winner: Hines Ward (PIT) is just a special breed of WR. After eleven seasons, he is still the toughest man wearing a number in the 80’s. Against the Bolts he had 11 catches for 126 yards.
Loser: Philip Rivers (SD) posted his worst QB rating of the season, and only threw for 159 yards. At this point I think it’s safe to say the Chargers '08 campaign is a bust.
Dallas 14 / Washington 10
Winner: Marion Barber (DAL) was the offensive weapon for Dallas on Sunday night. Barber had 24 carries for 114 yards; he also had six catches for 39 yards.
Loser: Jason Campbell (WAS) didn’t lead his team to any points in the second half. He did turn the ball over once, and Shaun Suisham missed a 46 yarder.
Cleveland 29 / Buffalo 27
Winner: Jerome Harrison (CLE) was the deal sealer. His 72 yard touchdown run was the nail in the Bills coffin.
Loser: Buffalo Bills Fans. For the second time in two years, the Bills faithful rocked the house on Monday night. They were paid back with an inept performance, a flashback of their worst nightmare, and a reality pill that tastes like broken glass.
