Billszone Exclusive:
Winner: Niagara Falls must have received a season high in vistors last night.
Loser: In this tough economy is there a job out there harder than being JP Losman’s agent right now?
On to the real Winners and Losers:
San Diego 34 / Oakland 7
Winner: At a time where LT is struggling to hit 100 each week, getting Darren Sproles (SD) involved in the offense is a great call. Sproles didn’t add too much to the running game, but he caught three for 34 yards and two TD’s.
Loser: JeMarcus Russell (OAK) was an impressive 9 of 13, although of his four incompletions two went to Stephen Cooper, who plays for the Chargers. Russell left the game on crutches in the third and that was the best he looked all game.
Chicago 23 / Jacksonville 10
Winner: Kyle Orton (CHI) looks like he may be a permanent answer to Chicago’s QB carousel. Orton was poised and accurate against a solid Jacksonville defense. If the Bears protect the football in their last three games they could jump the Vikings for the division.
Loser: After watching a good portion of this game Sunday, I don’t think this flop in Jacksonville is David Garrad’s fault. Both Matt Jones (JAX) and Reggie Williams (JAX) are first rounders, and neither seem to get open. Wide Receiver should be a big off-season focus for the Jags, and they might want to think about doing it in Free Agency.
Minnesota 20 / Detroit 16
Winner: When Tavaris Jackson (MIN) steps on the field, you’re never quite sure what you’re going to get. The young QB has shown flashes of potential, and, at times, has shown to be completely lost. When he filled in for the injured Frerotte on Sunday, he played almost perfect. Jackson went 8-10 for 105 yards, and drove the team down for the game winning drive in the fourth quarter. Visanthe Shiancoe (MIN) might be busy with the ladies this week. FOX exposed the giant TE on their postgame show.
Detroit: The Lions have three chances at breaking their winless streak, at Indy, home against New Orleans, and at Green Bay. If they plan on winning any of these games, coach Rod Marinelli needs to take some chances. Kicking nine field goals in their last four games isn’t going to beat anyone. After all, what have you got to lose?
Houston 24 / Green Bay 21
Winner: Imagine what Houston could do if Matt Schaub (HOU) could stay healthy? Schaub was 28-42 for 414 yards and two touchdowns. The Texans have a tough game against the Titans this week, but if they win out, they have a chance at their first winning season in franchise history.
Loser: Nick Collins (GB) was exploited on Houston’s last minute game winning drive. The safety was singled out, as four out of five passes were right in between the hashes for a total of 70 yards… yes, 70 yards.
Indianapolis 35 / Cincinnati 3
Winner: Did anyone doubt that somehow Peyton Manning (IND) would put it together? The elder Manning threw three TD’s in a late season game where every score now counts. The Colts need to finish strong to get hold of one the wild card spots. The Colts play the hapless Lions this week.
Loser: Ryan Fitzpatrick’s (CIN) mother. Not only is your son an utter disappointment as a quarterback, but you had to birth this…
New Orleans 29 / Atlanta 25
Winner: Roddy White (ATL). Wow, has this kid emerged or what!? It seems he has put up 2400 yards in two seasons without anyone even noticing.
Loser: Tough to pick a loser in this one, but Mike Mularkey calling a QB sneak with 3:58 to go just seems dumb. The play resulted in a loss of two yards which created a third and long. Which ended the Falcons comeback attempt.
Philadelphia 20 / New York Giants 14
Winner: This game had all the makings of an upset. ( I had 4 Giants starting on my fantasy team.) Brian Westbrook (PHI) did everything, and did it well. Westbrook had 33 carries for 131 yards and a TD; then he caught six for 72 yards and a score. The season finale against the Cowboys is a game to mark on your calendar.
Loser: Did the Giants miss Plexico? Or was it just a coincidence that Eli Manning (NYG) threw for his lowest total of the season?
Tennessee 28 / Cleveland 9
Winner: Chris Johnson (TEN) and LenDale White (TEN)do it again. There is no stopping Tennessee when these two are hitting on all cylinders. Johnson had 19 carries for 136 yards, White added 24 carries for 99 yards, and each of them had a score.
Loser: Romeo Crennel seems comfortable with his upcoming trip to the unemployment line. The Browns remained close throughout the first 30 minutes of the game, despite pass happy play calling with third string QB Ken Dorsey.
Miami 16 / Buffalo 3
Winner: Ronnie Brown (MIA) ran with determination, and made the Bills defense look foolish. Brown had 16 carries for 70 yards.
Loser: JP Losman (BUF) had the chance to showcase his talent for a job next year. It turns out the only thing in JP’s showcase is a chunk of poop.
New England 24 / Seattle 21
Winner: Wes Welker (NE) has worked his tail off to his second straight 1,000 yard season. Cassell really needs to look for Welker more in the Red Zone, 96 catches and only one score on the season.
Loser: Maurice Morris (SEA) was given the opportunity to run out the clock; instead, he lost four yards, and Seattle was forced to punt. New England won the game on the next drive.
Denver 24 / Kansas City 17
Winner: I have never considered Brandon Marshall (DEN) to be one of the league’s elite receivers. The 6’4 Marshall really impressed me this week. He just seemed to glide on the field. Cutler’s number one target had 11 catches for 91 yards and two scores.
Loser: Last time Larry Johnson (KC) faced the Chiefs, he ran for 198 yards and two TD’s. This week, he had 36 yards on eleven carries. The Broncos have only held a team under 100 yards rushing once this year. Does this mark the end of LJ in KC?
San Francisco 24 / New York Jets 14
Winner: Shaun Hill (SF) has been playing very well for a nobody. He spread the ball out to ten receivers on Sunday, and continued to protect the football. Is there any doubt that the 49ers have found their future head coach?
Loser: The Jets didn’t run the ball once in the fourth quarter. Brett Favre (NYJ) had 15 consecutive pass plays called in, which lead to 3 punts and a failed fourth down conversion. As I have said in the past, this is not Brett’s team… the Jets need to run the ball to win. End of Story.
Arizona 34 / St. Louis 10
Winner: Steve Breaston (ARI) has emerged as a big time receiver. Though Breaston has the benefit of playing alongside of Boldin and Fitzy, he has become a legitimate threat. Number 15 has 67 catches, 863 yards on the season and most impressively is averaging 12.9 yards per catch.
Loser: Steven Jackson (STL) fumbled on back to back drives and took his team completely out of the game. Not that they were going to win, anyway.
Pittsburgh 20 / Dallas 13
Winner: Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) hasn’t been himself all year. On Sunday he did his best Big Ben impression, going 17-33 for 204 yards and a touchdown.
Loser: Tony Romo (DAL) turned the ball over four times, perhaps the MVP talk might’ve happened a bit too soon.
Washington 10 / Baltimore 24
Winner: John Harbaugh has this Ravens club at 9-4 and sniffing the crotch of the playoffs. You have to give all the credit to Harbaugh, he has turned this team’s attitude around.
Loser: Redskin fans. The ballot stuffing going on in Washington sucks. Right now the Deadskins would have 15 starters in the Pro Bowl and another three as backups. Pretty impressive for a 7-6 team, who won’t be making the post season.
Carolina 38 / Tampa Bay 23
Winners:DeAngelo Williams (CAR), good God! Williams had 19 carries for 186 yards and two TD’s. The Panthers ran all over Tampa, and now have full control of their playoff chances. Antonio Bryant had a career day with nine catches for 200 yards and two scores, in a losing effort.
Loser: The Tampa Defense allowed 301 yards rushing and 170 through the air. That’s almost 500 yards of total offense.
