Check this out...

Trent doesn't even have to be the one to throw the touchdown passes to be able to take credit for them. He also can help another player realize that making mistakes is just part of being a Buffalo Bill.

What a leader! What a quarterback!

He's definately our guy!

Edwards trying to keep Hardy loose
by Chris Brown, Lead Journalist Last Updated: 8/10/2008 11:20 AM ET

"Less than 48 hours before their first preseason game Bills quarterback Trent Edwardshttp://buffalobills.com/images/relatedicon.gif (http://buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=6363#) decided it was time to sit rookie receiver James Hardyhttp://buffalobills.com/images/relatedicon.gif (http://buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=6363#) down for a little talk. He had seen the second-round pick pressing a bit in practice, feeling as if he was behind after missing five days of work in training camp.
Simply put a smile wasn't a facial expression you were going to find any time soon on Hardy's face.
Edwards thought it was time to help him exhale. So he gave Hardy the same message Robert Royalhttp://buffalobills.com/images/relatedicon.gif (http://buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=6363#) gave him just one year ago.
"Rob Royal helped me a lot in the huddle," said Edwards of his rookie season when he assumed the starting quarterback role. "He'd say, 'You know Trent smile. Enjoy playing the game of football. Take it seriously, but relax and have fun out there.' That was my message to James a couple of days ago."
Buffalo's signal caller saw the pressure of wanting to produce right away getting to Hardy a little bit."

Trent could be anything at this point but JP already failed his 3 year exam.. so it's up to the coaches to give Edwards a chance to succeed.

I saw a horrid endzone pass, Schouman drop 1, Hardy run maybe 2 wrong patterns and a good pass to Parrish. Hardly inspiring but correctable before the Seahawks opener.

But keep up with the Chicken Little campaign. It's very impressive. :drama:

You have to understand, Oakland won their 1st pre-season game, that annoints them as a SB contender and we are relegated to draft 1st next season after losing our first pre-season game.

The excitement of James Hardy is apparent all over the meassage boards.

Equally apparent on the boards is the polar comparison being drawn between our #1 and #2 quarterback's performances.

I am not making any quality judgements either way, but I think it is very telling that Chris Brown feels a need to post a feel-good, fluff piece where our hero is is getting inside the head of his new talented toy.

It's like they're subtely marrying James' success to Trent.

My question is why?

This part was left out:

Trent said to me" 'don't run a pattern over 5 yards or you'll never see the ball..Ask Lee."

Unlike the Bills being a playoff team before one game is played while the Dolphins are the exact same team they were a year ago.

you guys are ridiculous. the article doesn't credit Trent for throwing the ball to Hardy. it's just a rookie getting advice from another player. There isn't any spin to credit Trent Hardy's TD.

JP in all his glorious 79 yards and 7 completions isn't a leader in the huddle. So it's nice to know that someone on the team said something to get the kid to relax. JP isn't the guy to do it because he's a sulker. He's got his own issues. He's not going to go up to a rookie and help him out. Remember how the team was so mean to him when he joined. and Poor JP tried so hard to fit in. It was like UCLA all over again.
How many times do you see JP get rattled and then he just has a lost look on his face in the huddle? Oh, right no one can remember that because he threw 7-9 for 79 yards in game 1 of the preseason....and it was a road game. He's never been inconsistent. He should be our starting QB!!!!

I love what Trent is trying to do. I hope he applies it to himself and it translates to better success for him on the field. What he did was what I expect from a leader. He's in the right frame of mind. I want to see it on the field as well.

I still don't understand why you expect people to be positive about a team that has underperformed as much as this team has.

I still don't understand why you can't comprehend the fact that when the team is this bad, what you call "negative" is actually "realistic".

Why would a team being bad ever stop somebody from being a fan? You were a fan of this team when they were even worse than they were now, so what is it you don't understand?

What I really don't understand is putting a negative spin on everything the Bills do. In this thread, Trent's sitting down with a rookie to try to ease some of the pressure on him is labelled as "OBD spin machine. . . "

In others, Whitner is excoriated for a number of positive things he has done with "he's not a leader, that's not leadership," etc., ad nauseum, ad finitum. I could find hundreds more where the same kind of approach applies. I find the continual negative, sarcastic attacks on the Bills just as annoying as you seem to find my optimism.

If this season goes to s##t again, I'll be as pissed as any of you.

But as a fan, I like to treat this as a fun time of year. I like to hold out some hope in the offseason, and the preseason, that we will get better. You "realists" simply can't seem to deal with that.

The same as some dont understand how some people put a positive spin on everything, if all you want to see is roses and diasies that's fine but to be critical of those that choose to not see that is quite a bit hypocritical. You have your view they have theirs, nobody is a bigger or better fan and in the end we all want the same thing. I dont see why thats so hard to understand?

I don't find your optimism annoying at all, just as I dont find others negativity. I think its honest views, that may be right or wrong. What annoys me is when one side tells the other its wrong, or one side presents an opinion without any facts. Which both sides have done continually.

I understand all points of view. I simply choose not to be all pissed off and bent out of shape 365 days of the year over Bills' football. I have plenty of time to concentrate on that during the season.

I choose to be positive this time of year. If others choose to be negative or critical of such things as personnel moves - or lack thereof - or coaching decisions or front office issues, that's one thing.

But threads like this, which put a negative spin on something totally innocuous, or multiple posts ranting and raving about cutting minicamp one practice short, leave me wondering if some posters really want to see anything good.

I can say having worked in the PR field that this type of move of presenting a fluff piece after a bad game makes sense and is natural. I don't think its trying to give Trent credit for Hardy's TD catch though.

I dont like the fact that they cut off a minicamp session because to be honest, we need it. But its DJ's call in the end if it bites him in the ass then it bits him in the ass.

I dont think alot of these guys are bent out of shape 365, I think for some of them its simply a perception. They still root just as hard on Sundays.

Everyone wants to see something good. Years of not seeing it has created the cynicism and anger behind threads like this. Personally, I don't pay much attention to BB.com unless I need stats or roster info, because I know it's the Bills propaganda machine. But I understand why people find the fluff and PR spin to be frustrating.

And you said it yourself: you "choose to be positive this time of year." Your positivity has to do with the time of year and not with the true situation surrounding the team. So, when someone is what you call "negative" and they provide a list of reasons that have to do with the reality of the team at the moment, don't jump down their throats for their tone because at least they're thinking it through and analyzing the team rather than choosing their attitude based on the month on the calendar.

You don't think Chris Brown reads these boards?

You don't think PR in Russ Brandon's world of regional, multi-national marketing isn't a priority?

The teams new golden boy **** the bed, albeit in a meaningless series or two of the first preseason game.

That is not a good start to his persona... but hey that Hardy kid sure looked didn't he?

I'm certainly glad that he has Trent to help him get his head straight.

I don't think it's that unrealistic to think that article was calculated.

Pretty much everything Chris Brown writes is calculated. Remember when Schobel got his extension? A few days before, Brown wrote a blog post about how Schobel was underpaid as a DE. If Brown is more than mildly harsh on a player, it's a sign of his impending release or at least benching. If Brown criticizes an FA or player on the trading block from another team, there's no way he's coming to Buffalo. If Brown compliments an FA/trade-seeking player from another team, a deal with Buffalo is imminent.

Long story short, Chris Brown isn't a journalist- he's a part of the Bills' PR operation. He doesn't say anything without someone high in the organization approving it.

The only good thing is that the Bills use him to prime the public for their moves, so reading his stuff can sometimes give good insight on an impending move.
