He is stiff, but in my opinion, you can work on flexibility. If he has the desire to get better, he can. Stiffness can be removed with constant stretching exercises...but I like how he can lock on to a defender in the run game and control them. And he's got the long hands for it too.

I personally would have rathered Demarcus Love for his versatility, but this is a good pick too.

Scouting Report

Hairston is a two-time All-ACC first-team selection at left tackle for Clemson. His upper-body strength cannot be questioned since he had 33 reps in the bench press at the NFL combine to finish tied for the second-most among offensive linemen. Physically, he measures out well with an above-average arm length (35.25 inches), and that should help his effectiveness in stifling pass rushers. Hairston has the benefit of going up against NFL-caliber defensive ends in the past. He's gained experience in practice facing teammate Da'Quan Bowers, the possible top overall pick, as well as former Tigers standout Gaines Adams, a 2007 first-round pick, who died in 2010 at 26. Although he is not considered a great athlete, Hairston fared well in the East-West Shrine game in pass protection. His below-average leg strength is probably a concern since scouts believe it hampers his blocking ability. Hairston is considered a late bloomer who has a solid upside and could be a good selection in the sixth or seventh round
