Woods taken behind the wood shed?

Marrone wants Woods playing with a chip on shoulder
By Kevin Patra Around the League writer Published: Aug. 6, 2014 at 06:49 p.m. Updated: Aug. 6, 2014 at 08:45 p.m.

"Robert Woods not taking snaps with the Buffalo Bills' first-team offense turned out to be one of the more surprising aspects of Sunday's Hall of Fame Game. Three days after Woods exclusively played with the backups, coach Doug Marrone pulled aside the second-year receiver to discuss the matter.

Apparently, the coaches were trying to motivate Woods.

"We know Robert can play three positions for us. We're just trying to figure out what's the best combination that we have out there," Marrone said Wednesday, per ESPN.com's Mike Rodak. "When Robert first came to camp, he didn't do that. Not to say he was complacent or not, but I told Robert today, when he plays with that little chip on his shoulder, he's a darn good football player."...

Robert Woods played with the reserves in Sunday's preseason opener. Coach Doug Marrone said he talked with the wide receiver and told Woods they want to see him playing more with a chip on his shoulder.

Woods literally punches people in the face. He's plays with a chip on his shoulder.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
      It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

yes.. lets pick out the lone dependable lineman on our OL... and embarrass him. I mean vets never take it easy in training camp... right?

they're picking on the wrong player. they should be in EJ's grill.
My wife told me that if I had a dollar for every girl who found me unattractive, girls would find me VERY attractive.

        MY WIFE SAID THAT!!!

Please no. EJ with a chip on his shoulder means he goes on IR.

It's a protection mechanism.

You shroud your childish approach in a vale of pompous, intellectual garbage in an attempt to look smart and "real". The true "realist" understands that they have no control of what happens on the field or behind the closed doors at One Bills' Drive, so they do the prudent thing for a spectator. They enjoy the games on Sunday with family and friends, cheer for their team and realize that it's just entertainment.

"I was an integral part in the drafting process of EJ Manuel," Whaley said Thursday on NFL Network's Total Access. "I was the person that handled the draft process and setting up the board."

"We are committed. I want you to believe me when I say that," Whaley said of building around the second-year quarterback, per The Buffalo News. "I always tell you guys that I'll never say never because I don't want to paint myself in a corner, but when I do say something, I do it and I mean it and I try to fulfill it."

"We believe the addition of Sammy is going to be instant impact, not only to our quarterback, but to what our offensive coordinator can come up with game-plan wise and how defenses attack us," Whaley said.

Whaley on EJ Manuel: "We think we got a gem in this guy." (2:30)

"And as Mark says, if in three years maybe he's not [our quarterback of the future], then I'll be sitting there saying 'hey guys', .... anybody got a job for me?" - Doug Whaley

I don't really see the big deal with Woods taking second team reps. Considering Sammy Watkins and Mike Williams are both new to the team, it would seem important that they get more reps with EJ to work on chemistry/timing.

Either way, it sounds like Woods responded well and had a really good practice after his talk with Marrone.

I honestly feel like Marrone isn't going to be as nice to EJ this year. I'm not saying that he'd go as far as benching him but I can see him barking at him all game if he continues to flounder.
