    EJ Manuel "pensive"

HOUSTON -- Observed and heard in the locker room after the Buffalo Bills' 23-17 loss to the Houston Texans:Quarterback EJ Manuel, who struggled for most of Sunday's game, was one of the last players to leave the Bills' locker room.

Quarterback EJ Manuel, who struggled for most of Sunday's game, was one of the last players to leave the Bills' locker room. While most of his teammates changed and headed for the team bus, Manuel sat facing his locker with his head down. A couple of teammates came over to offer Manuel encouragement, but for the most part he was left alone. The second-year quarterback normally is remarkably even-keeled as he meets reporters after games, but I saw a slightly more beleaguered Manuel on Sunday.

Coach Doug Marrone was asked directly if there was "any consideration or temptation" to turn to backup quarterback Kyle Orton in Sunday's game. "No, no, not at all," Marrone responded.

Oh. my. god. This is going to be another long year of suffering. The only thing we can hope for is that when Pegula becomes official, he fires Marrone that very day.

If EJ can bounce back next week it will all be good. If not he needs to be benched immediately. This proves he has no mental toughness right now and is not ready to be an NFL caliber QB.

Other than QB, oline, and TE this team is going in the right direction. Because of the youth movement, oline may be on the way. Add an interior olineman, a legit TE...if EJ doesn't get his head out of his ass, it is an attractive opportunity for another QB.

That's not how Pegula works. He's a plotter.

The Sabres are rebuilding on a long term plan.

He may clean house at the end of the season (please, God) , but he won't do anything before then.

I honestly feel bad for the guy. It's not his fault, he's just not good enough. It has to be painful to realize you are going to fail at this level.

Manuel is probably thinking: "How long until I finally get benched?".

When he fakes a injury in the 1st quarter next week.

                        No? Not at all?

im just a stupid ****ing fan, but when you can see Robert Woods throwing a fit after every poorly thrown ball... it's a pretty clear indication that EJ is losing the team.

continue to run EJ out there and the team melts as usual.

                        its not really complicated.

And Whaley and about 15 other people that have reeked up the joint for years.

We're told here now that he'll need a few years to improve. We shouldn't give up on him we're told, he'll come along eventually.

Your way to deal with it is to constantly ***** and denigrate any move, any result concerning the team even if it's positive because you don't want your whittle feewings hurt again. It's a protection mechanism.

You shroud your childish approach in a vale of pompous, intellectual garbage in an attempt to look smart and "real". You over-analyze even minute points and manipulate statistics to fit your negative view of the team. Again, to feel good about yourself and to protect from getting hurt.

Of course, the criticisms are obviously from someone who has no understanding of the team concept or what it takes to excel at athletics.

The true "realist" understands that they have no control of what happens on the field or behind the closed doors at One Bills' Drive, so they do the prudent thing for a spectator. They enjoy the games on Sunday with family and friends, cheer for their team and realize that it's just entertainment.

"I was an integral part in the drafting process of EJ Manuel," Whaley said Thursday on NFL Network's Total Access. "I was the person that handled the draft process and setting up the board."

"We are committed. I want you to believe me when I say that," Whaley said of building around the second-year quarterback, per The Buffalo News. "I always tell you guys that I'll never say never because I don't want to paint myself in a corner, but when I do say something, I do it and I mean it and I try to fulfill it."

"We believe the addition of Sammy is going to be instant impact, not only to our quarterback, but to what our offensive coordinator can come up with game-plan wise and how defenses attack us," Whaley said.

Whaley on EJ Manuel: "We think we got a gem in this guy." (2:30)

"And as Mark says, if in three years maybe he's not [our quarterback of the future], then I'll be sitting there saying 'hey guys', .... anybody got a job for me?" - Doug Whaley
