Ironic that you picked a goal by Max, as one of my criticisms of Ennis is that he can resemble Max in the way he holds the puck too long and relies on his speed to attempt to skate through two NHL defenders....

The one thing you can't hold against max is he was never a floater. Always skated hard.

I don't disagree. The problem with Max was that he never learned that the defenders are too good in the NHL for him to skate through or around like he could do at the lower levels. He'd show dazzling speed and puck-handling but then he'd get the puck stripped along the boards or trying to cut to the goal. He never learned that passing to an open teammate is rarely a bad play and putting a puck on net is never a bad play.

I've seen some of the same tendencies in Ennis. To be fair, I didn't buy CI this year and have only seen maybe 3 games since the free preview ended, and in those games Ennis seemed to be improving in this regard. And his goal numbers suggest that he is continuing to improve. So he hasn't caught Afinogenov Syndrome yet. But I really think this is the nexus point for him. He's at that stage where if he doesn't figure it out this season, he never will.

Max had passion. He just never had the hockey mind to match his feet.

In the opposing zone. Then he would stop at center ice and watch his man score.

max was certainly a defensive liability. but i dont think it was from a lack of effort. just didnt have hockey smarts. only skill.

Max was never the best player on the team though this is not really a reflection of either his or Ennis's talent. :-)
