View Full Version : Reasons to love the Ryan signing

X-Era

Here's a list of various thoughts:

Has beaten Brady more than the Bills have ever
Pats average 120 yards less on offense against Ryan
The most experienced HC candidate with our division
4 and 2 playoff record
2 trips to the AFC championship
Brings a fiery attitude to the team
Paired with Schwartz may push the D to best in the league
Instantly makes us much much more attractive to FA's
If he brings Roman would bring a zone blocking scheme which would be ideal for Spiller
Jets UFA's that may now be in play- Landry, Harris, Colon, Kyle Wilson
SF UFA's that may be in play- Crabtree, Iupati, Perrish Cox
SF players who may be in play via trade/release- Vernon Davis, Kap
Other players we may go after- Revis, Sanchez (eww)
Players who may stay now- Spikes, I could see Hughes since Schwartz is still here
Brings media attention which could easily give us primetime games
Rex will insist on having tough players... Guys that are injury prone may be on their way out... Gilmore comes to mind.
With his previous experience, he can push this team into the playoffs year 1. Any other candidate likely would need a rebuild.
Signing anyone else likely means Schwartz is gone

Any other facts? thoughts?

Like Bart Scott said recently, players will run through a wall for him because he always has their back.

I'd rather have him than any first timer coordinator.

I love the hire personally and it makes us relevant and most likely will get us a prime time game or two.

Best Hire of past 15 years.
Give this man a QB and he might just win you a SB.

I like that we are the first team to hire a coach. It looks like we got our pick of the litter.
I like that he accepted our offer instead of declining, if only so we don't look like the Browns last year.
I like the idea of Roman coming here.
I like that they have 5 conference championships between them.

Since this is a positive thread I won't piss on the ones I don't agree with or are inaccurate, so...

Playoff experience, attitude, keeping Schwartz, ability to attract free agents, bringing in Roman, the possibility of Iupati, Colon, Spikes staying are all positives.

The biggest positive IMO, as THRILLHO already mentioned, is Pegs and Whaley had a definite plan and idea of what type of coach they were looking for (no college candidates), they went through their process, and when they identified who they thought was the best fit they were aggressive in bringing him on board. They deserve a lot of credit for that.

99% of that board is PISSED Rex is going to the Bills.

They all wanted him to go to the NFC, Atlanta or Chicago.

I don't know if Rex will turn this ship around, but you guys will like him, hard not to. And his D is unique and awesome. This dude turned Justin Bannan into a rotational player for the Ravens, and effective one, he coaches them up like no one else on DL, he's coach the position. Just look at Jets DT Harrison, came out of nowhere and now he's a stud on the interior.

Fixxxer

Only good Jets free agent is Harris and we don't need LBs, Ryan is probably salivating with the young three he has right now.

I hope Roman can convince Iupati to come with him. (and a couple of millions thrown his way of course)

You lost me here. Singling out Gilmore of all people is odd. I could see McKelvin maybe but given the **** CBs Rex has had lately I'm sure he's happy to have access to ours.

Not to mention that Marrone reportedly held grudges against oft-injured players like Goodwin. He was not forgiving in manner as your post implies.

Gilmore really turned the corner this year. What I am wondering is who will call plays? If Schwartz stays will he run similar to last year with a bit more blitzing? There is no way Rex will be the head coach and let Phillip Rivers pick us apart like last year. Gilmore would be a beast if he only has to cover for a few seconds as blitz is coming.

I hope so. He's injured too often.Interesting that people complain about injuries. Injuries happen, especially if you are going full bore, making hits, giving 100%. Luck is also a factor. I thought Gilmore played outstanding this year. He's not a Revis or a Peterson, but I'll take him.

Best hire since....forever.

1) Isn't content with just getting an opportunity to coach in the NFL- this guy has a singular purpose which is to win rings!
2) Knows the AFC as good as anyone, having had success against our biggest obstacle toward gaining entry into the playoffs- Brady and Belichick and on the biggest of stages..
3) Brings us instant credibility with the players and teams throughout the NFL which is a huge component of this signing. Players will WANT to come here to play for Rex, not just to collect a paycheck. When was the last time we had that?

..and at a reasonable price? How can you not love this move?

Reasons to love the hire...

1. The Bills are back on the NFL map in a big way. $27 million worth of advertising expenses paid for in 1 week.

2. Rex Ryan is the only coach that can kick Tom Brady and the Patriots off of the AFC East Mountain.

3. Free agents that never would have given Buffalo a thought will now give Buffalo a chance.

4. Ryan wants to keep Schwartz.

5. Season ticket sales will explode.

6. Biggest coaching hire in Buffalo Bills history.

7. Is there any other coach who knows more about how to beat Belichick?

I think it's a good hire, not a great one. Like Hurricaine, I'm really happy they went with an established coach over some coordinator.

I like his enthusiasm for the game, and like Wade Phillips, he can always call his father for advice.

The only thing that makes me wonder, is that we actually fared pretty well against him when we stunk and his team was good.

Should be an interesting offseason.

Night Train

We didn't hire Lombardi but we didn't hire Marrone 2.0 either. The Ralph days of meddling, cheap hires and coaches not wishing to come here are officially over.

I'm giving him a chance. I don't care that he doesn't know O. Marv didn't either but he hired Marchibroda. He knows D and has ready Asst. coaches wishing to work for him. A 5 year deal screams stability. That will also attract FA's.

Would be lucky to get Roman to run the O, meaning a ground and pound O with some shots downfield. He let's his coaches coach and trusts them. Motivated players are happy players and he has a gift for this.

I bet we upgrade the OL, find more RB's, aquire another 1-2 QB's to battle it out with Manuel in camp...and we're off and running.

On to the college all-star games with our coach and his asst. coaches eyeing what the team needs and an owner/gm willing to please him.
