All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
why does the third down defense seem to be getting worse

Injuries are certainly a contributing factor, but it's also not like our defense is cutting edge.
We pretty much play a base nickel cover 2 scheme which doesn't have a lot of variety in formation or exotic blitz concepts.
Give decent OC's enough time and they will scheme against it rather effectively.
That's why it's called bend but don't break.
I agree with the first part and it’s the reason plays are effective. I gotta believe if Poyer is in there several of those longer throw to Jefferson either get defended or he intercepts one or two. Cousins doesn’t have the strongest arms and Poyer would get there.

frazier employs a hybrid half field zone half man with them both being disguised at times. I think it just appears that the third down D is getting worse. Jefferson made it feel that way (oh that was fourth)
we were also missing Rousseau not being in there.
like it or not, Edmunds is a overpaid scarecrow in the middle. When he’s out there seem to be more middle shots as well.

But that comes back to the pass rush. the best cover 2 D's get pressure from the front 4. We were getting that earlier in the season, we aren't really getting that now.

Again. Rousseau was missed. Also a four man rush doesn’t always do it against good Olines.
Re: why does the third down defense seem to be getting worse
It’s irrelevant. The losses are squarely on Josh Allen.
Each of the loses, the Bills had the ball, in their super star QB’s hands, with a clear chance to win.
He made boneheaded plays and failed hero ball.
The Miami and Minny game were the worst. One hopping a sure go ahead TD against Miami, the terrible INT in the red zone on the first drive, and the Minny game with three inexcusable turnovers. Both of the iNT’s IN MINNY’S END ZONE.
Both terrible, terrible throws that only the rawest bad rookies should guilty of.
Trying to place blame on the defense is ridiculous. It’s on Josh Allen, and why I started a thread that correctly states....

reading too many press clippings.

Great point Minnesota has great OT's ....... Og's meh but at tackle they are as good as any and may just be the best tandem in the league today. Kirk Cousins is successful that tells you all that you need to know on that front.
