WNSA just reported on the sports ticker that the Buffalo Bills have offered a contract to retain KR/PR Charlie Rogers.

hmmm, I think this is a good move. Charlie is a very good KR and Shaw will do the PRs. All we need to do is teach our STs to open holes for both guys to run.

    Works for me!
Like already posted here, special teams has to come up big this season opening up lanes for decent field position. They started to come around late last year, so, things do look bright for ST squad.

The kick return duty Rogers provided was good enough to keep him... it was th punt returns I hated... but Shaw should fix that.

As long as we have the money, there's no reason to let a quality player go to another team.

With the signing of Shaw and the speed burning WR yesterday, this doesn't make much sense to sign a guy that is only going to return kicks... In my opinion, it just wastes a roster spot at this point... The only thought on thgis is, if they don't re-sign him, they basically traded Jay Foreman for nothing...

I don't understand that, Rogers showed nothing last year and doesn't deserve to return.

He returned a kick for a TD...

Besides this will probably be a vet min signing, and I think it might be just to give us options if someone else doesn't wow us in camp... that speed burning WR might have been brought in with KR duty in mind... and we might draft someone.

Rogers was very good until he came to Buffalo. A return guy has to make the first guy miss and find lanes. Rogers made the first guy miss but then the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th guys just happened to be hitting him immediately after. Nobody could've done squat on our special teams unit the past couple of years. It's not Rogers who's the problem, it's the blocking.

Actually Rogers looked to hesistant to me and didn't fire off the way he should. Hell, I don't even like the ST coach Danny whoever. Especially the way the slob chews his gum, I'd have to kill him if he was my coach.

he was hesitant on some returns, but who wouldn't be with our ST blocking? And like you guys said, he'll come cheap, so we can cut him in training camp if he doesn't look good or someone else is better.

I agree with those that said our special teams problems are due to Danny Smith ... many other special teams perform better with an equal amount of turnover that we have had, so I don't see what his excuse can possibly be.

That said, if Danny Smith can get the special teams to perform, and Rogers is able to produce to his ability (I think he's a good KR, but our coaching sucks), I don't see keeping him as a KR specialist being a waste of a roster spot. A good KR versus a bad KR can make a big difference in a game ... from TD's like the Jets had to teams constantly doing short/squib kicks and giving you your own 30-35 yard line every time (which seems to be Danny Smith's favourite kickoff plan regardless of the opposing returner).

As I said though, a KR specialist is not a waste only if our special teams are producing, and with this coaching, I don't see that being that case ... although there's no harm signing him and finding that out during training camp.

The blocking wasn't much better in 2001 and Clements had better return averages than Rogers did...

rogers did not have a great year because the other 10 guys on special teams SUCKED. i am surprised that he returned a kick for a TD and he actually did it twice last year including preseason.
