My position by position assessment, and projected off season wants and needs....

I'm new, I hope this is the right forum...

I don't think this is a draft thread. I don't think this is a free agent thread. I don't think this is a position by position assessment thread. I basically think it is a combination of the three. I am not a college guru, I will admit, but this is how I see it. Any replies would be appreciated.

    Offense

QB- I think we are mostly set. We will probably need veteran depth.

RB- I think we are set

WR- Top need in my opinion. Lee needs an extension. I think we need a big, physical receiver to add. We need the red zone threat. And, we are run first. Would be nice to have one that can put a body on someone. The draft is deep with them. Sweed, Kelly, Bowman, and Hardy head the list. We can probably get one of these guys in the second.

TE- Top three need. We should try something in free agency first. They are cheaper then Cbs. I like Eric Johnson of the Saints. I’d like him more if he had more Tds on his track record, but he would be a huge upgrade. Otherwise Fred Davis, Martin Rucker, and John Carlson are athletic, receiving types. If Martellus Bennett drops in the draft, maybe we nab him. He is 6’7 and can move good.

RT- Langston isn't going anywhere. Solid is pass protection. Not bad in run blocker either. Contract locked up.

RG- Jury is still out. No real ties here. Not much push up the middle. I know we shouldn't skimp on the line, but I think Butler might due for now.

C- I think this is the weak link. And, I think it could/should be upgraded big time. How do we go about getting one? I haven’t heard of any good ones in FA. I don’t see the options. Maybe John Sullivan via draft.

FB- Would a true one who is a receiving threat be too much to ask? Schouman looked skilled in very limited action. But I’m not wanting all the eggs in his basket.

    LG- I think we’re set

    LT- I think were set.

    Defense:

DE- Contracts locked up. Good depth. Average, but the money here is spent. No early pick, or offseason acquisition should be expected. Maybe a pass rushing specialist.

DT- Would be nice to upgrade huge here. But, sadly I don’t see it happening. Hopefully these guys step up the last four games. They are young and have potential. Haynesworth would be ideal, but it’s not going to happen.

Lbs- I think we go Crowell, Poz, Digiorgio. I think Poz would have been huge this year. Surprising solid depth has materialized. Briggs would be ideal, but it isn’t going to happen.

Safties- Whitner and Ko have me sold. We thought they would be largely improved this year playing together. Next year they should be solid. And, serviceable depth has been established.

CB- McGee is good. Greer is good too, but he is overmatched at times. I think he would be more suitable covering a #3. We NEED a CB that can match up with Moss. And, Cbs are expansive. I think we go draft early here. In fact, first. Talib is 6’2. Malcolm Jenkins is 6’1 and physical. Maybe Cason. I think we will see some space created between these guys after the combine.

    Needs:
    1a. WR
    1b CB
    3 TE
    4 Center

    Wants:
    FB, DT, DE, LB, RG

Can't disagree with anything you said, although I'm satisfied at DT and maybe at C a little more than you are.

O, by the way guys, I typed this like two games ago. But, not much has changed, so I didn't change anything. And, thank you for the replies so far.

Oaf, I doubt we do any DT upgrading like I want. We have young improving guys, and by the time the get around to addressing it, there wouldn't be an upgrade available. We have glaring needs that need to be addressed first. IMO

Qb- agree have to find a guy who fits the team ...Vet who knows his job is to back up Edwards and help him get to next level ..Charlie Batch type guy....

Rb-agree ..But do we bring back A-train.. I say we explore some other younger vets or LATE RD PICK A BIG BACK..WOULD BE NICE .. Let's hope Wright improves next season....

WR-Bowman is out ...Smoke weed got kicked out of UNC....Gotta red flag him.. even if he had changed his act.. I love Hardy..I hope he comes out probably a
1st Rd guy if he runs well...Keep your eye on Bennett from Vandyif he comes out ...

A couple of sleepers-Jordy nelson is not really a sleeper.. 1st team all american 122 receptions this season ..possesion guy..big 6-2-215....

Evan Moore 6-7-235-poss guy from stanford .. I say he would be best served moving to TE putting on 15lbs.. why do i like him good athlete.. Great character guy.....played b-ball on stanford team.

    http://gostanford.cstv.com/sports/m-...re_evan01.html

The best TE's in the NFL played B-ball.. gates .. tony gonzalez...heck even meetzalars back in the day... 2ND DAY PICK LATE RD 6 ....

Just a few thoughts . I also would like us to look at The D-line early on draft day if we don't get any guys in FA...

I want the new coordinator to sort the QBs out. But, assuming he goes, we would likely get a cheap capable older guy, who knows his role and wont challenge Trent.

Rb-agree ..But do we bring back A-train.. I say we explore some other younger vets or LATE RD PICK A BIG BACK..WOULD BE NICE .. Let's hope Wright improves next season....I think Wright will improve. I think he will/should move ahead of A-train. But, A-train is the perfect last option. I would keep him. I mean, you have to be the Dolphins to make it all the way to your fourth RB.

WR-Bowman is out ...Smoke weed got kicked out of UNC....Gotta red flag him.. even if he had changed his act.. I love Hardy..I hope he comes out probably a

Both are needs, but big, physical, lock down capable CBs are rare and hard to come by. We let the combine sort the men from the boys, and go for the best one. In the second we go WR Sweed, Hardy, Bowman. Who ever is still available. Kelly will likely be long gone.

Could be a very nice sleeper. He has good size, and he could build on his frame.

The best TE's in the NFL played B-ball.. gates .. tony gonzalez...heck even meetzalars back in the day... 2ND DAY PICK LATE RD 6 .... If they are committed to the H-back, maybe. I think we need to upgrade H-back and TE. Personally, I would rather they got a true FB who can catch. At least there is still a small threat of the run when he is back there. I'm thinking fourth round. 4th because we might have to trade our thirds to get high enough for one of the WR or TE we target in the second.

Just a few thoughts . I also would like us to look at The D-line early on draft day if we don't get any guys in FA... I would too. Unfortunately I think they have too many holes to fill. I really hope the re-addition of Poz, and moving Digi to the weak side can solidify our rush defense.

    Good thoughts.
This is how I see the Bills drafting:
    1st- cb-probably M. Jenkins if he's there.
2nd- wr- the suspects already mentioned.
3rd- this is where I think they can get one of those top t-ends. They are not all going in the first two rounds.
    3rd- lb
That's not necessarily how I'd draft but I think this is how they will go.
    A-train is history.
    So is P. Price
Haynesworth is a pipe dream- 1. doesn't fit the "system". What a bunch of bs that is. 2. Ralph will never pay.
Also we've had some very good corners here we let walk. As noted you have to pay good corners. Winfield and Clements would sure look nice instead of the overpaid Schobel and Kelsay imo. Denney and Hargrove are pretty similar.

We didn't have to extend Schobel so soon. He had a few yeaqrs left. We kind of tied our on hands when we signed Kelsey to a bigger deal then Schobel was getting. After all, he made the probowl.

We could have let Kelsey walk, saved the Schobel money, and actually filled holes this past offseason instead of making more. Adalius Thomas would have been nice. Good thing we had a great draft last year.

Nice read man. I think you'll be surprised what lengths Marv will go to address DT. Tripplett, McCargo and Williams are nice but short one man of a full rotation that Fewell and Kollar would like to see.

IMO, I'm thinking it will most likely be through the draft but I definitely think a 4th DT is more of a need then a want.

    nice.

i do think we go out and get at least one bigtime guy in FA. as much as i'd like a DT, we have 3 DTs who can play, and 4 DEs, we have maybe 2 LBs and 1 or 2 CBs, so those are much bigger needs.

i'd like us to go get a WR in FA because that would instantly make our O and whole team much better. we can get an interior Lineman on both sides of the ball in the draft, and i think we will get a round 1 CB.

i have this feeling that we get briggs. i know signs point against it, but he is a jaroun guy and would suit our d better than any other IMO.

Re: My position by position assessment, and projected off season wants and needs....

    QB- need a vet backup
    RB-set
WR need a number 2, and another guy with size for depth
TE- need a Recieving TE, would luv Bennett, maybe LJ Smith in FA
    OL-need to replace Fowler
H-back- Schouman is future here, could use depth
    D
DE-set, too much money spent here
DT-need a stout penetrating pass rusher who can stop run as well, FA Henderson would be gift but not holding breath
LB-we need 1- Dansby, Briggs Draft
    CB-set need a depth pick
    S-set
    K-set
    P-set
    KR-set
    PR-set
We got 10 picks maybe more after Losman trade and also a ton to spend
Lets make a god damn run for once
