Confused about the NFL rankings for best special teams.

1st off, there is only 2 players on Cleveland the say is good. They say there coverage and punter sucks. Well, there are 4 main parts to special teams. Coverage, Punting, Kicking, and returning. They only have 2 of those. They also say Dawson is very consistent. Well we have a great punter, Lindell has been the most consistent kicker in the past 5 years, our ST is known for our coverage, and we have 4 returners who can be the starter on any team but Cleveland and Chicago. 2nd, well the same but there punter is good. Buffalo should be 2-1 no doubt.

Not being a homer. Even a phin fan would probably agree.

Funny thing, just read a cowboys website that says they have the best ST in the nfl. There not even close.

    Yes, the Bills are 3rd,

    3. Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo special teams have been among the best in the league since head coach Dick Jauron took over in 2006. Jauron puts as much emphasis on this phase of the game as any coach in the league. The Bills field two dangerous returners in Roscoe Parrish and Terrence McGee, both of whom have impressive vision and instincts to hit a crease and have the speed to burn opposing coverage units. Buffalo also has one of the best kicking tandems in the NFL with place kicker Rian Lindell kicking 24 of 27 attempts last season and punter Brian Moorman averaging an impressive 37.6 net yards. Both players show great poise under pressure, and the Bills' coverage teams are discipline and they rarely give up field position.

Thanks. Also, this is my point. On the other ones, they have 3 good players on ST. We have about 7. McKelvin(maybe, going by college), McGee, Parrish, Jenkins, Wendling, the LB(forgot the name), Lindell, Moorman. Were is miami ranked. They should be in the top 10 because of Ginn.

Miami is 18th, I think this is actually a little high. Last year we were awful because of the players Cam Cameron let go. However this year we have made a strong effort to upgrade our ST unit. Ted Ginn had three returns for TD last year 2 were called back. But with a better unit this year I expect it to be a strength. BP is a big fan of ST and field position. I expect us to be near the top 10 by seasons end.

Re: Confused about the NFL rankings for best special teams.

cribbs is a sick player who has changed several games on his own (with a few blocks). i'd say buffalo's ST are definitely more balanced, but i can't fault anyone for putting cleveland up there.

seems to me like it's more of a question of style: do you want the one guy who puts fear in everybody, or do you want to be very consistent and well rounded, always putting your team in good spots? neither choice is the wrong one, IMO.

i must agree that moorman is one of the best if not the best, and mcgee and parish are forces to be reckoned with. they always seem to change field position.

is everybody here really sold on lindell? (i don't have an opinion either way).

FTP: god, the phins ST were painful last year. 18 is generous loking at that debacle... the game at the meadowlands vs. the jets sticks out as a doozy. it'll be interesting to see what ginn can do with some emphasis put on ST for a change. i do expect MUCH improvement there... from what i heard all offseason, feely might be in danger at K, because parcells doesn't dig kickers who talk. that would piss me off, because feely was one of the few bright spots last year, and games are so close these days...

i used to hate lindell but the last 2 years he's made me eat my words.

ST has been good since April got here not since Jauron came aboard.

One thing I disagree with- Lindell has been a very consistent kicker for the last 3 years. Before that, he pretty much sucked.

    Other than that, good points.

Re: Confused about the NFL rankings for best special teams.

looking at nfl.com, lindell has been at 88.9% on FG's last year and 92% the year before. solid anywhere, but that strikes me as especially good kicking in buffalo, with the wind and the harsh elements...

it shows i rely too much on memory. in his first year in buffalo, he was at 70.8%. i must still be thinking about that year when i dismiss him, but he seems to have figured out his game.

I did the same thing- before 2005 I wanted Lindell gone. Then the season started and by week 5 or 6 he was the only guy on the team pulling his weight. Ever since then he's been pretty damn good. I don't know if I'd call him the "most consistent kicker in the league" but certainly above average and one of the few positions on the Bills that we don't need to worry about. His kickoffs are still a little short but even that has improved.
