wgr550: Not a lot of Spikes: Bills' playtime percentages vs. Miami

    - LB Brandon Spikes finished the game with just 15 total snaps on defense, which accounted for a time on the field of just 19-percent. The Dolphins played three wide receivers the majority of the time (Nickell Robey played 86-percent), which could be the basis of why Spikes played so little.

    - The tight end with the most snaps on Sunday? It's not Scott Chandler. Second-year player Chris Gragg led the way with 35 snaps to Chandler's 34.

    - Leodis McKelvin did not start against the Dolphins but was eventually brought in for a rotation at cornerback. His 42-percent of time on defense was mostly for Stephon Gilmore (67-percent), who missed Week One due to a groin injury.

Spikes put the best hit of the day on the QB, IMO.

    This should be interesting.

Alright, I'll get the ball rolling and suggest that maybe he didn't play much in the second half because he sucks against the pass.

Was he injured? I didn't note that. Maybe so though.

It's a protection mechanism.

You shroud your childish approach in a vale of pompous, intellectual garbage in an attempt to look smart and "real". You over-analyze even minute points and manipulate statistics to fit your negative view of the team. Again, to feel good about yourself and to protect from getting hurt.

The true "realist" understands that they have no control of what happens on the field or behind the closed doors at One Bills' Drive, so they do the prudent thing for a spectator. They enjoy the games on Sunday with family and friends, cheer for their team and realize that it's just entertainment.

"I was an integral part in the drafting process of EJ Manuel," Whaley said Thursday on NFL Network's Total Access. "I was the person that handled the draft process and setting up the board."

"We are committed. I want you to believe me when I say that," Whaley said of building around the second-year quarterback, per The Buffalo News. "I always tell you guys that I'll never say never because I don't want to paint myself in a corner, but when I do say something, I do it and I mean it and I try to fulfill it."

"We believe the addition of Sammy is going to be instant impact, not only to our quarterback, but to what our offensive coordinator can come up with game-plan wise and how defenses attack us," Whaley said.

Whaley on EJ Manuel: "We think we got a gem in this guy." (2:30)

"And as Mark says, if in three years maybe he's not [our quarterback of the future], then I'll be sitting there saying 'hey guys', .... anybody got a job for me?" - Doug Whaley

Re: wgr550: Not a lot of Spikes: Bills' playtime percentages vs. Miami

As the article suggests, it seems we have a d-coordinator that is paying attention to and matching personnel to what the opposing offense is putting out on the field. Spikes playing time gave way to Robey being on the field because of the Dolphins 3 and 4 WR sets.

Once Moreno was injured, and that was early, the Dolphins pretty much gave up on the pass. Aside from the six runs to end the first half when they were running out the clock, they only had 15 running plays compared to 53 passing.
Lehner's history. He just doesn't know it yet.

I think Graham is our best corner.

Now that we're facing Gates, I wonder if Spikes ends up on the bench again.

These big TEs are a reason we should have left Manny Lawson at LB.

They are really liking Preston Brown. He has done a great job for a 3rd round rookie LB thrust into action.
