The move doesn’t come as a surprise given that there was talk all season that Martindale and head coach Brian Daboll weren’t seeing eye-to-eye. Still, it’s a contradiction of what both Martindale and Daboll had said recently: Martindale said last week that he didn’t see any reason he wouldn’t be back, and Daboll said today that he expected Martindale back.

The Raiders have made a couple more interview requests for their vacant General Manager job.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Las Vegas would like to speak to Bills director of player personnel Terrance Gray and Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown.
Reports earlier on Monday indicated that the Raiders have also requested to interview Colts assistant G.M. Ed Dodds and 49ers assistant G.M. Adam Peters.
Brown and Dodds previously interviewed for Las Vegas’ G.M. job when it was open in 2022.
After firing G.M. Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels during the season, team owner Mark Davis told Tashan Reed of TheAthletic.com that he would likely hire a General Manager before hiring a coach.

The Chiefs should have their starting left tackle back when they open the postseason against the Dolphins.

Head coach Andy Reid said on Tuesday that Donovan Smith is on track to play Saturday night after missing the last five games due to a stinger.

He’s doing good,” Reid said, via Nate Taylor of TheAthletic.com. “Barring any setbacks, he should be fine for [Saturday’s] game.”

Smith, who with the Chiefs as a free agent in May, started 12 games in the regular season. His return is particularly important for this weekend, as backup left tackle Wanya Morris is in concussion protocol and is not set to practice on Tuesday.

Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones is ready for the possibility that he’ll be leaving Kansas City.

Jones, who is set to become a free agent in March, acknowledged today that Saturday night’s game against the Dolphins might be the last one he plays in front of the Chiefs’ fans.

“It could be my last game at Arrowhead,” Jones said. “Who knows?”

The 29-year-old Jones was a second-round pick of the Chiefs in 2016 and has played his entire career with them. He’s won two Super Bowl rings in Kansas City, been a first-team All-Pro once and a Pro Bowler five times. He’s been a major part of the Chiefs’ recent run of success.

The race for defensive rookie of the year featured a couple of names throughout the year. By the time the dust settled, an unlikely candidate emerged as the winner.
The PFT defensive rookie of the year for 2023 is Rams nose tackle Kobie Turner.
A third-round pick from Wake Forest, Turner led all rookies with 9.0 sacks, a significant feat for any interior defensive lineman. He also tied the Rams’ rookie sack record, set nine years ago by Aaron Donald.

The Chargers completed an interview Tuesday with their offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, for their head coaching vacancy, the team announced.
Moore spent his first season with the Chargers in 2023, taking over the play-calling job in late January.
It was Moore’s sixth season as an NFL coach, his fifth calling the plays.
Moore parted ways with the Cowboys last year, and in his first season with the Chargers, they ranked 18th in total offense and 21st in points.

Joe Flacco will start for the Browns in a playoff game against the Texans on Saturday, nine years after he last started a playoff game, on January 10, 2015 for the Ravens. That nine-year gap between playoff starts is the second-longest for any quarterback in NFL history.
Only Doug Flutie, who started a playoff game for the Bears on January 3, 1987, and then started a playoff game for the Bills on January 2, 1999, went longer between starting playoff games.

    Re: All news NFL

Black Monday has come and gone. It’s now Wednesday. We’re still waiting to see what happens with the Patriots and coach Bill Belichick.
The overriding question is whether owner Robert Kraft will indeed sever ties with a 24-year employee who continues to be one of the best game-day coaches the sport of football has ever seen. Belichick has made it simple — keep me or fire me — while also potentially complicating things by suggesting publicly (and presumably privately) a willingness to make some changes.
It was believed to be too late for Belichick to change. Or, more accurately, for the Patriots to become convinced he was willing and able to do it.
Regardless, if the Patriots know they’re moving on, why are they waiting? If the goal is to make Mike Vrabel the next head coach of the team, they should get started with their search, before someone else can attract Vrabel’s attention.

The Bears are planning to stick with Eberflus as their head coach for the 2024 season, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

That news broke shortly after the news that Luke Getsy has been fired as offensive coordinator. So Eberflus has two big jobs ahead of him in hiring an offensive coordinator to replace Getsy and a defensive coordinator to replace Alan Williams, who resigned early in the 2023 season and was not replaced.

Then an even bigger job commences for Eberflus and the Bears: Deciding whether to stick with Justin Fields as their franchise quarterback or draft a quarterback, most likely USC’s Caleb Williams, with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

    Re: All news NFL

During last year’s hiring cycle, there were several hot defensive coordinators. Jim Schwartz was not one of them.

The Browns hired him. And Schwartz, a former head coach of the Lions, made Cleveland’s defense into the finest in the league. The performance of the unit helped propel the Browns to 11 wins, and the No. 5 seed in the AFC.

It started early. After a Week 1 win over the Bengals, defensive end Myles Garrett raved by phone to PFT about Schwartz’s defense, which fully utilized Garrett’s skills and abilities.

They surrendered, on average, 270 yards per game. That’s nearly 20 yards per game less than the Chiefs, who finished second, gave up.

The Panthers have fired their head coach and General Manager, but not all assistants are currently able to seek employment elsewhere.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Carolina has blocked a request from Jacksonville to interview defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero for the same position. The Panthers plan to interview Evero for their own head coaching vacancy.

Evero was hired last offseason after spending one year with the Broncos as defensive coordinator. Much like in 2022, the Panthers’ defense was the team’s strength in comparison to an inept offense. Carolina finished No. 4 in total defense after Denver finished No. 7 in total defense with Evero at the helm.

Report- Maxx Crosby to explore trade if Raiders don't hire Antonio Pierce - NBC Sports

Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby endorsed hiring interim head coach Antonio Pierce on a full-time basis near the end of the regular season and he did the same in a social media post on Friday, but that might not be the end of his push.

NFL Media reports that Crosby is expected to explore a trade request if the Raiders opt to hire someone other than Pierce. That report is part of a larger report about Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh’s potential return to the NFL because the Raiders “continue to weigh” a pursuit of their former quarterbacks coach.
