It isn't his option to trigger, is it?
I could see him trying to force a trade, though.

When Josh opts out. LOL!
Josh will be extended before he can opt out. He ain’t going anywhere.
and therein lies the problem. No cap space to put a team around him now, it’ll be worse when he needs to be extended to compensate for all the worse QB’s making more money because they signed their contracts after him.
Allen is going the way of Jim Kelly. Great moments, great stats, no titles.

They'll extend him after we get out of this year's cap hell.
He's going to be a Bill for life.
Mercy (05-14-2024)
Josh can't opt out.
The only way he can, is if they don't exercise the fully guaranteed portion of his contract.
Don't be dumb.

Nice (actually, not "nice" at all) trolling attempt.
Ignore the big dollar amounts. All that matters is the percentage of cap.
That HAS gone up recently. There are two numbers to pay attention to.
The actual cap hit for each year, as a percentage of that year's cap number and "average" contract value as a percentage of each years cap (that number decreases as a contract ages and the cap goes up)
For 2024, (as of 3/13/24 when I complied the information at that time) the average cap hit for the top 10 paid QB's in the NFL was 16.97%.
Deshaun Watson (in maybe the worst contract in decades) is #1 consuming a whopping 25.05% of the 2024 cap. Josh is #9 with only 11.89%. Here is the top 10...
Cap Hit 1 Deshaun Watson $63,977,000 25.05% 2 Dak Prescott $59,455,000 23.28% 3 Kyler Murray $51,407,000 20.13% 4 Matthew Stafford $49,500,000 19.38% 5 Daniel Jones $47,105,000 18.44% 6 Patrick Mahomes $37,133,824 14.54% 7 Lamar Jackson $32,400,000 12.69% 8 Jared Goff $32,300,064 12.65% 9 Josh Allen $30,356,281 11.89% 10 Joe Burrow $29,714,000 11.63% Average 16.97%
The other less accurate measurement is the "average" contract value as a percentage of each years cap since AAV has little relationship to cap hit as it's manipulated so often pushing the cap expenditure into the future. It's instructive nonetheless.
AAV 1 Burrow $55,000,000 21.53% 2 Goff $53,000,000 20.75% 3 Mahomes $52,650,000 20.61% 4 Herbert $52,500,000 20.56% 5 Jackson $52,000,000 20.36% 6 Hurts $51,000,000 19.97% 7 Murray $46,100,000 18.05% 8 Watson $46,000,000 18.01% 9 Cousins $45,000,000 17.62% 10 Allen $43,000,000 16.84% Average 19.43%
Yeah it’s actually the truth. We just released a bunch of quality expensive vets, and replaced them with backups and draft picks.
We’re currently 28th in the NFL with $2.1 million in remaining cap.
The salary cap is a real thing, and the % of cap eaten by the QB’s salary creates a real problem for teams, no matter how much you want to pretend it doesn’t.
I don't know. Says potential opt out after 2025.

Josh will be a Buffalo Bill his entire career.
We finally have the QB we've been waiting for ..... he's not leaving Buffalo.
