I think COL would want more and I would want assurances we could extend him. Don't want a one and done situation with him which I think could be highly likely, give his past contract negotiations.

I don't mind paying him, especially since it's not my money. The q is, does he want to sign a LT deal in Buffalo or test the market? My guess is he wants to go the UFA route. In that case, you paid a lot for a one and done type of situation for a year in which you're really not going to win anything anyway.

I think the point is moot if you can't get a deal done. Then I believe nobody would want that deal.

You can't negotiate with him on an extension until early July though, so, that defeats the purpose of trading for him during the draft. UNLESS, you talk to him and have an "agreement" in place

Nah - there are a lot of teams that would like O'reilly, doesn't impact their leverage all that much. It'll be very interesting what they get for him
