    Crazy or Brilliant Idea?

I had this thought ever since the Titans secured the #1 overall pick... that we should try and get it so we can draft a player who I believe is a franchise QB (and have for 2-3 years) in Jared Goff.

How would I do it? I think I'd start by offering them Sammy Watkins straight up for the pick.... and they might be crazy enough to do a deal with those as the two major pieces.

    My argument/logic goes like this:
-QB is the most important position in the game, you should always want to be top 10 in this position in the league IMO. (We always try building a team around our skill players and it fails)
-Tyrod is nice, but he's far from proven as a top 10 franchise guy
    -Competition is good.
-Better to have two QB's than none.
    -Goff is a franchise QB
-We usually don't have a strong look at franchise QB's and when we do we have missed on it and that has cost us, over and over.
    -Titans are open for business.
-Titans need to support their young signal caller.
-Sammy Watkins would arguably be the best player in this upcoming draft.... with the exception of the positional value Goff brings.

I just need some REAL hope for this team. It is mind numbing to be a fan of the Bills when they continue to kill themselves with bad decisions. They'll keep making bad decisions but a franchise QB is the ultimate eraser. They can cover up the stench of an inept franchise better than anything else (see: Manning, Luck, Rivers, Palmer, Ryan kind of, possibly Mariota or Winston next).

We can argue the merits of Goff as well I suppose but to me he's a no brainer. Matt Ryan is his floor (that would be a disappointment) and Tom Brady is his ceiling (in terms of style of player). I am confident he'll fall more on the good side of that spectrum with the right coaching/situation (so maybe he fails under Rex ).

    Re: Crazy or Brilliant Idea?

Well, that certainly would be bold.

Whaley is a gunslinger when it comes to acquiring players, but I don't think he has the gonads to risk his position/reputation on a move that would A)Admit failure with EJ (although he's going to have to completely accept it eventually) B)Admit that the guy he doubled-down on (Watkins) is expendable if it means taking a bolder gamble on a guy (Goff) in an attempt to overcome the first gamble (EJ), and C)IMO Whaley has a super-high opinion of Watkins, large enough to quash the desire to do what it takes to acquire a 'franchise' guy.

    Re: Crazy or Brilliant Idea?

I am torn between Tyrod and a hard place to be in.

Taylor did much better than anyone thought this year. The kid is young, and has earned the starting quarterback job.

Is he a franchise quarterback capable of taking the Bills to the playoffs for 10 out of the next 10 or more seasons?

    No.

Great wide receivers don't take teams to the playoffs year in and year out over a decade or more.

If Whaley thinks he has an opportunity to draft a franchise quarterback and all he has to do is give up Sammy Watkins, go for it.

I don't think every draft expert thinks Goff will be a Top 10 guy... And to go from 19 to 1 would probably take more compensation than just giving the Titans Watkins..

I'm not so sure he's a "franchise" qb. Spindly frame, weighs what, 205 lbs ? Spread offense QB again, that means steep learning curve for reads, again. He's a good prospect but bona fide franchise QB, oh I dunno about that.

Trade up for him ? Nah. See what happens with Taylor having a year of combat under his belt. There will be more prospects next year.

For the love of heaven I just want them to have a well scouted, predictable foundation draft for once without wildly swinging for the fences. Like that's going to happen. I voted crazy, no offense Mouldsie.

Too risky then to take No.1... Ron Meyer said in the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary "Elway to Marino" he wasn't happy with the Pats taking Tony Eason he didnt think Eason would hold up long term because of his slight frame.. And I don't think Tyrod Taylor will either the last few games of the season he was taking way too many hard hits.. Compared to Russell Wilson Taylor is quite thin

Don't know anything about Goff, but just judging from the highlight reel, no. He doesn't have an overly strong arm, and seems to get happy feet more than I'd like to see.

Goff is not worth it IMO. Haven't we learned our lesson with California QB's yet?

I think we've learned what a California QB can do for a team.

Look, Tyrod has his ups and downs but who do you think is going to come in and play better, especially if you trade away our #1 WR? And which QB is worth giving up Sammy?

We would be talking about how early Palmer would be entering the HOF after retirement if he wasn't drafted by Mike Brown...

You know, I'd probably trade Watkins and whoever to get to Joey Bosa.

I'd rather keep Sammy and take my chances on Cook in the second or Prescott/Jones/Coker in the 4th or 5th.
