This should be an interesting debate… which player on the dline is best?
This should be an interesting debate… which player on the dline is best?
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.
1. Dareus
2. Mario
3. Hughes
4 Kyle
1. Dareus
2. Williams
3. Hughes
4. Fool's Gold
We will resign Dareus this off-season but I suspect some other team will pay Hughes well over $10M per year for many years.
His days in Buffalo are numbered.

Lehner's history. He just doesn't know it yet.

Mario is playing the best right now.
Who's the best over all? It's hard to say. Who makes who? Do the inside guys make the outside guys better or vice versa?
If I had to pick one that was irreplaceable, it would be Mario at this point.

The thing that makes this unit so special is they take turns being 'the best'...that's why they can dominate. Take out Mario? Hughes will eat you up. Take out the ends? K.Williams and Dareus will crush up the middle. Use three, four guys on K.Williams and Marcel? The ends will bust asses. They really are fun to watch.

Dareus.
He's the best run defender and may be the best pass rusher (or 2nd to Hughes).
People praise Mario for beating a double team last night, and rightfully so (though Jace Amaro's effort was severely lacking), but most of Dareus' sacks this year have come off double teams.
I love watching Jerry Hughes pass rush, especially his outside in move. I still can't believe we got him so cheap.

Everyone talks about Mario's pass rush, but what is overlooked is Mario's ability to set the edge against the run.
Mario is a GOOD run defender, he is not a one trick pony. IMO, Mario is the best defensive player by far & he makes everyone around him better just by being on the field.
I have Dareus at 1A and Mario at 1B. Hughes is becoming a stud and Kyle, while still strong is showing signs of wear and tear. Still a beast though!
Agreed
Cap space isn't an issue, the DL is solid. Dareus seems to have matured this season mentally. Throw kiko back into the mix and get another impact LB and we'll have a tight front 7.
It would be just like our FO to **** up the chemistry though. Hopefully we'll have at least new leadership in the FO.

"I was an integral part in the drafting process of EJ Manuel," Whaley said Thursday on NFL Network's Total Access. "I was the person that handled the draft process and setting up the board."
"We are committed. I want you to believe me when I say that," Whaley said of building around the second-year quarterback, per The Buffalo News. "I always tell you guys that I'll never say never because I don't want to paint myself in a corner, but when I do say something, I do it and I mean it and I try to fulfill it."
"We believe the addition of Sammy is going to be instant impact, not only to our quarterback, but to what our offensive coordinator can come up with game-plan wise and how defenses attack us," Whaley said.
Whaley on EJ Manuel: "We think we got a gem in this guy." (2:30)
"And as Mark says, if in three years maybe he's not [our quarterback of the future], then I'll be sitting there saying 'hey guys', .... anybody got a job for me?" - Doug Whaley
It's all going to depend on how much more real money Pegs is going to want to invest, especially in Hughes. And, as far as LBers, if Spikes is re-signed I don't see any need for another 'impact' 'backer, just getting Kiko back will put that unit on par with the defensive line. Quite an accomplishment by the young GM turning one of the weakest units on the team into one of the deepest in such a short period of time, IMO.
1) Hughes
2) Darius
3) K Williams
4) M Williams
understand i just put two probowlers at the bottom of the list. this d-line has been THAT good this year. best front 4 in football this year, hands down. and we're gonna waste it on another .500 or worse season.
My wife told me that if I had a dollar for every girl who found me unattractive, girls would find me VERY attractive.

Hughes
Dareus
M. Williams
K. Williams
But without K. Williams playing excellent at his given position, Jerry Hughes doesn't excel like he does.
